Ashley Heckethorne, William Cannon Society, was the O.S.S.C.A.R. state president from 2007-2008. The state project she chose for her year consisted of raising funds to help preserve and restore the First Lady Inaugural Ball Gowns of Oregon displayed at the DAR Newell House Museum. These gowns were worn by the First Ladies of Oregon at the inauguration of their husbands as Governor of Oregon as well as the gown worn by the only woman governor. The gowns date back to 1851, pre-statehood. Ashley was able to raise over $1400 for this important project. This enabled the museum to apply for several other grants to help continue the restoration of these gowns.
