DYMENT, DIMOND, or DIMENT, GRIFFIN, MacVICAR,MILLMAN, MILLMON
In 1837, siblings John, Elizabeth, Robert, Thomas, James, and Sarah Ann Millman (also MILLMAN or MILLMON) arrived in Canada and according to family lore worked on a canal (possibly in Ancaster). According to lore, John being the only male 21 years old in 1837, joined the militia and went to Toronto with the government forces to put down the rebellion. John married Sarah Ann GRIFFIN of East Flamborough, and they took up farming there. John married in 1851, Sarah Thompson, of Puslinch Twp. He had children by both wives. Where are the descendants of James, son of John and Sarah Ann, who eventually settled in Hamilton. Robert and Thomas took u adjacent farms, north of Woodstock in 1841. They married sisters, Betsey Taylor BAKER and Maria TAYLOR. James never married, Sarah Ann married Thomas Taylor, brother to her sisters-in-law. Elizabeth married Peter DIMOND (also Dayment, Dyment, Diment) who was farming in Puslinch Twp, in Jan 1841. Peter was married first to Marianne MacVICAR who died in 1840 and with whom he had 1 son and 2 daughters with. Peter Dayment arrived in Canada in 1831. His brother, John (and wife Elizabeth Cole) arrived later, uncle Peter arrived even later in the 1840's. The assessment records of Puslinch list Peter Dimant on Con 1, lot 22 from 1839 to 1843. They then disappear, (perhaps to Michigan?). On the 1861 census, Jane Dimond, age 14, is living with her uncle and family in East Flamborough. Where are Peter Dayment's descendants. I am trying to track down Stephen KITSON's parents and siblings. Stephen moved to Preble Co. Ohio in the 1830's, and in the 1840s moved west to Whitley Co. Indiana where he is buried. SPEEDIE
William D. SPEEDIE is listed as follows: Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Wentworth County, Binbrook Township. He was 65 years of age in the 1901 Cenus of Canada, Province of Ontario and born in Scotland. (National Archives of Canada, Microfilm Reel No. T6486, page 97-H0l, page 01). I am looking for any information regarding William Speedie such as: specific place of birth in Scotland, information from cemetery card, i.e. who made arrangements, etc. I am also wondering whether there is a directory which might list his profession or trade. I suspect he was a school teacher and may never have married. Are there any immigration records regrading William SPEEDIE ? He may have come to Canada, via Pictou, in 1849. If he has descendants, I would very much like to contact them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Allen Armstrong 3087 Stonebrook Rd. Lisle, Il, USA 60532. [email protected] December 28, 1999

WHITESELL
Wondering if anyone has had the same experience I have. In the book
"Waterloo Wills" which was done by a retired supervisor at the Land Registry
Office in Kitchener are listed some Wentworth county wills. I found the
one I wanted for Andrew WHITESELL, of Beverley Twp. However, when I ordered
it the Land Registry Office staff could not find it anywhere. They had
no wills on record using the code given. I phoned the office and the staff
explained they had searched everywhere. They did wonder if the Wentworth
records were sent to Hamilton or elsewhere after
amalgamations etc. Has anyone else had this experience, and if so,
where did the Wentworth records go that were in Waterloo? I appreciate
any help with this. Also the staff in Kitchener tried to contact the Land
Registry Office in Hamilton but no one returned their calls. Thanks muchly,

MARTIN, PAGE, ZIMMERMAN
Hi. I’m hoping someone researching the ZIMMERMAN-MARTIN and ZIMMERMAN-PAGE families might contact me in case they might have information I could use as a lead. I’m researching my great-great grandfather Thomas L. Leedham, lived in Halton Co. and Wentworth Co. c. 1850, migrated to Norfolk Co. in 1862. To date I haven’t been able to find in any registers for Halton\Wentworth\Norfolk his first marriage (for his wife’s maiden name) or any reference to his son William T. Leedham’s birth in 1850 in Upper Canada. I find Thomas (30) in the 1851 Halton Co. census with Ann (29), and William (2). However, William’s marriage license in 1875 to Elizabeth J. Acomb states his parents are Thomas & Catherine Leedham. Perhaps Ann in the 1851 census is Thomas’ sister looking after William because Catherine has died or perhaps her full given name is Catherine Ann. Thomas remarried widow Charlotte Mary (Ferris) Jeffers in 1854. William died young, 31, and is buried in Norfolk Co. with Thomas and his stepmother. I don’t know where in England Thomas was born so now I’m trying to establish who his siblings, cousins were. Mary Elizabeth Leedham and Jane Leedham married into the Zimmerman family. I found a reference that Jesse B. Martin is related to Peter Zimmerman and interestingly, William’s son George was living with postmaster Edmund Martin, wife Alice and their children Lizzie, Amy, Olive in the 1901 Norfolk Co. census. George married Louise Gregston in 1905 in Carlisle, East Flamborough. Witnesses to their marriage were Edith Gregston and N.C. Zimmerman. And, I found a record of an Ann Leedham married to John Page in 1745 in Stafford, England. Can anyone help me straighten out these Zimmerman, Martin, Page connections? I would really appreciate any information as it may help lead me to Ann\Catherine’s maiden name and William’s birth place. Thank you. [email protected] October 4, 1999

CASE, POOLE, SMUCK
We are descendants of John CASE and his wife Elizabeth who were living
in Flamboro Twp. at the time of the 1851 census. By the 1861 census
Elizabeth was a widow. I have not been able to find either of their
graves. Their son Isaac Poole CASE and two of their daughters are buried
in the Rock Chapel Cemetery near Clappison's Corners. Also buried there
are Isaac POOLE and his wife Eleanor nee CASE, and Peter CASE and his wife
Susan nee SMUCK. Recently I found the last two listed on the I.G.I. and
discovered that Peter and Susan were both born in Glanford Twp.- Peter
in 1799. Our direct line is to John and Elizabeth CASE who reported being
born in C.W. in 1806 so I believe that Peter was John's (and possibly Eleanor's)
brother since they are all buried together. Are there any
descendants of the Case family still in the Glanford area to contact,
or is their a local history that I might consult to try to find the name
of the parents in Glanford? Marilynn Crow,Puslinch Twp.,Wellington Co.

WEAVER, TERRYBERRY
Looking for ancestors of David William (or William David) WEAVER
(1811-1873). Married Margaret TERRYBERRY (1812-1867) circa 1845/50.
Their son John Hurry WEAVER was born in Binbrook, Wentworth County, Ontario
in 1842. John H. Weaver married Mary Ann GILET (GILLETTEa) in 1867.
They immigrated by wagon to Michigan around 1885 with their two children.
Their daughter Rosanna WEAVER (1870-1948) is my greatgrandmother. Her younger
brother William WEAVER (1875-1960) never married. David William WEAVER
subsequently married Laura HALL. It is thought that David William WEAVER
or his family came to Wentworth County from New York State and that the
family perhaps originated in Germany (name possibly changed from WEBER?)

HUNTER
I have just found that one of my GGG Uncles was a Wesleyan Minister at Centenary Methodist Church in the late 1800's. His name was the Rev. Samuel John HUNTER (S.J.), and he was the son of John and Nancy Hunter, emigrants from Co. Tyrone, Ireland. I know litle else about Samuel, except that he was b. c.a. 1842, and had two brothers, the Rev. H.D. Hunter, pastor of the First Congregational Church, London, and Rev. William John Hunter, of churches in Hamilton, London, Toronto, and Ottawa at various points in his career. Does anyone have any information on Samuel, his descendants, the Centenary church, or anything else that might be of help? Was he married, if so, to whom, and did he have children... :-) All the usual questions! FRAY, LEWIS, TACKLE
I am researching my ggrandfather's line. George William LEWIS. I
believe George was born in Wales, 18 Jan 1830. He emigrated to the U.S.
with a contingent of miners to teach mining to the Americans. He later
moved to Canada - to the Ancaster area. He later moved to Vanessa, where,
I understand he lived the remainder of his live. His first wife was Jane
FRAY. Children of the marriage were Franklin J. b. 6 Mar 1855; Martin Luther,
b. 1 Nov 1856; William Henry (my grandfather) b. 21 June 1861; Charles,
b.Apr 1864 (d. Apr 1865) ; Nettie J. b. 28 May 1866; and
Marian, about whom I have no other information. I have no idea where
George and Jane were married, or where the children were born. I have always
understood William Henry was born in Ontario, but to date, have not been
able to verify the fact. Jane died 5 Mar 1869, and is buried in the Vanessa
Cemetery. Nettie J. married a man by the name of Gorman, and lived the
balance of her life in Lansing Mich. William Henry moved to Alberta with
his first wife, Elizabeth Ann TACKLE, first to Calgary where William supervised
the laying of the first waterworks, and later
to Bowden where they homesteaded and farmed. Elizabeth is buried
in a small cemetary that stands on the corner of the original homestead
in Bowden, deeded to the town by William Henry when she passed away. Any
information you have would be most appreciated. Thank you. Wilma Lewis

HUTON, MORDEN, SOMERSET
Searching for information on the following: Agnes E. SOMERSET
(d: 08 Apr 1918 in Hamilton), daughter of James SOMERSET (b: 02 Feb
1847 - d:24 Apr 1926 in Hamilton); Bertha MORDEN [HUTON] (b: 1886 d: 01

from
Simcoe County between 1901-1910. I'd like to determine, for

Also, information on Bertha's brothers, Alfred (who might have gone under
the surname Somerset) and Charles Huton (d: 1970), and her father, who
might be William Huton (d: 1928). Agnes Somerset, James Somerset,
Bertha (Huton) Morden, and Harry Morden are buried in Hamilton Cemetery,
but there does not appear to have been a marker; Charles and William Huton
are buried in Woodland Cemetery. I've consulted various City Directories,
Cemetery Indexes, and Funeral Home Indexes at Hamilton Public Library,

Deaths indexes, but would like to hear from anyone who may have come across
any of these people in their own research.

DEPEW, WARD
I am beginning my search of the DEPEW family and the marriage connection to the WARD family. I have a connection found with Wellington WARD marrying Caroline Leitha Depew March 28 1900 Certificate 17382/00. Caroline was the daughter of John Depew and Esther Jones.
