Transcribed here by Linda Herman Pioneers of Prince Edward County BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES NORMAN FAMILY Robert Norman was born at Kingston in 1820. Robert A. Norman was born in Kingston, Ontario in 1820. He and his father, William E. Norman, were of British descent. The father became a preacher in Prince Edward County, but it was the son, Robert who established the Norman family in the county. Robert married Phoebe E. Hill, a milliner who was born in 1816. It was Phoebe Norman's business, the first hat shop in Prince Edward County, that accumulated most of the family's wealth. Robert and Phoebe Norman resided in Picton, and they became the parents of seven children. Their eldest child was Sarah H. Norman, who became the wife of William P. Reynolds and the mother of four children: Norma, Lilla, Bidwell and Josephine. The family resided in Picton. The second child born to Robert and Phoebe Norman was William E. Norman, who was named after his grandfather. William and his wife, Phoebe Terwilliger, raised their five children in Picton. Their children were Walter, Fred, Herbert, Luella and Helen. Annie E., Phoebe E., and Minnie were three daughters of Robert and Phoebe Norman who left Prince Edward County when they married. Helen Roberta, another daughter, married John C. Bayle and settled in her hometown, Picton. They became the parents of four children: Mabel, Florence, Ernest and Arthur. Only Mabel remained in Picton. She married Norman Landon. The youngest son of Robert and Phoebe Norman was named after the father, Robert A. Robert A. Norman Jr., married Margaret McGivern and settled in Picton. Their son R. Gerald Norman also settled in Picton.oved to Oshawa.
