Transcribed here by Linda Herman Pioneers of Prince Edward County BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES THE MUNRO FAMILY Samuel Munro was born in Herkimer Co., New York. The Loyalist Munro family, which had Scottish ancestry, came to Canada from the United States. Samuel Munro, who was born in Herkimer County on January 31, 1757, was among the first United Empire Loyalists to move from New York State to Prince Edward County, after the American Revolution. When he and his wife Susanna (Susannah) settled in Northport they were one of the first families to inhabit that section of Sophiasburg. The six children of Susanna and Samuel Munro were all born in Northport; Olive in 1787, Catherine in 1788, George in 1791, Samuel in 1796, Allan in 1798, and Royal in 1803. The Munro family belonged to the Presbyterian Church. They were considered to be one of the most prosperous of the early Prince Edward County families. Olive Munro married John Lazier, and they had three children: John, Allan and Samuel. Olive Munro Lazier died in 1868. Catherine, the other daughter of Susanna and Samuel Munro, married Royal Hall. They had five children: Samuel, George, Allan, William and Royal Jr. George Munro and his wife Almira Talcott had only one son. Samuel, the second son of Susanna and Samuel Munro, married three times. With his first wife, Lucretia Cotter, Samuel had three sons: Samuel James, William Allan and George Albro. Robert Willard was the son of Samuel Munro and his second wife, a Miss McMullen. Samuel's third wife was Sarah Wright. Allan Munro and his wife, Elizabeth Cotter, raised two children, James and Elizabeth. Royal Munro, the youngest of the six children born to Samuel and Susanna Munro, married Christine Lazier. Their children were William and Catherine. The third generation of Prince Edward County Munros included Samuel James. He was the oldest son of Lucretia and Samuel Munro, and he was also the third Samuel of the family to reside in the county. He married Mary Morden, a descendant of the Loyalist pioneer Mordens. They raised four children: Andrew, Samuel Robinson, Lucretia and Elizabeth. The second son of Lucretia and Samuel Munro was George Albro Munro. He and his wife, Frances VanPatten, had seven children: Edward, William, Samuel, John, Nellie, Mary and Amelia. The third son was William Allan, and he married Mary Ann Potter. The four children born to them were George Albro, Mary Lucinda, Ann Elizabeth and William Royal.
