John Johnson first settled in Cornwall after emigrating from Plymouth, England. In Cornwall, John was a merchant, but after a couple of years he purchased two hundred acres of land near Bongard's Corners, North Marysburgh. John did well in Marysburgh and had nine sons and three daughters. The family farm is now owned by Mr. James A. Johnson.
