John Ogden came to Canada, from New York State, in 1790. He was a United Empire Loyalist with valuable skills in carpentry and wagon-making. He travelled first to Kingston, but he decided to settle on the south side of East Lake in Athol. John Ogden married Waity Dyer, and they became the parents of William, Mary, Dyer, Valentine, Nancy and Harriet. The oldest son, William, married Lucy Dyer and settled in Athol. Their six children were Harriet, Mary, Waity, Rachael, Walter and Axey. Mary Ogden married Joshua Walters. They settled in North Marysburgh and became the parents of ten children: Barret D., Waity, Daniel, John, Rosanna, Susanna, Harriet, William, Joshua, and Mary. Dyer Ogden married Nancy Sheldon, and they settled in Athol. Their children were John, Merva J., Anthelia, Waity, Clara A., Berthena, Norman, David, Nancy M., and George S. Valentine Ogden was the fourth child born to John and Waity, the pioneers. Valentine and her husband, Parmilla Hughes, moved to the United States to raise their six children. Nancy Ogden married Lawrence Lyons. They settled in Sophiasburgh and became the parents of Thomas D., William B., Lydia J., and Almon P. The youngest of John and Waity Ogden's children was Harriet. She married twice, first to Thomas Dorland and then to Vincent Dewell. Harriet, the mother of six children, moved to Oshawa.oved to Oshawa.
