Transcribed here by Linda Herman Pioneers of Prince Edward County BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES THE HUGHES FAMILY UEL family originally settled in Hungerford, Hastings Co. James Hughes came to Canada as a United Empire Loyalist and settled in Hungerford. His son Joseph moved to South Marysburgh after his father's death. James had two other sons, James and Benjamin, who also settled in Marysburgh. Samuel David Hughes, Joseph's son, married Phoebe Hubbs the great-granddaughter of Robert Hubbs. He served in the Township Council for three years. Calvin, James' son, was also a member of the council and resided on the homestead in North Marysburgh for years.
