Transcribed here by Linda Herman Pioneers of Prince Edward County BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES THE HOWELL FAMILY Emigrated from Wales to Sussex Co., New Jersey. Richard Howell who was born in 1715 was of Welsh extraction and emigrated to Sussex County, New Jersey. He married Anna O'Donnell and, John Howell, their son born in 1753, eventually emigrated to Canada. He came to Fredericksburgh where he remained with his wife, Eva Catherine Sheets, for twelve years. John then moved on to Sophiasburgh, then Demorestville for a short time, and finally he settled on Big Island. Not only did John receive twelve hundred acres in land grants by he also received a commission as Justice of the Peace, was appointed Colonel of the Prince Edward Militia and was a Mohawk Indian Agent. Jacob Howell, one of John's thirteen children, went into the lumbering business and served as Warden of the County. Jacob's descendants settled in the Ameliasburgh area.
