John Mather and Robena

John Mather and Robena (Lunan) Mather, were both born in Scotland, John in Lauderdale, Berwickshire in 1795 at Soonhope farm and Robena in Berwickshire in 1796.  They married in Oldhamstocks, East Lothian, Scotland, November 18, 1816.  Their first two children, Jean and Isabella, were born in Yester, East Lothian, Scotland while their other children were born in Canada.  They sailed on the ship "Commerce" about 1822 from Glasgow to Quebec.  Also on board were the Somervilles, Afflecks, Peacocks and others.  The group continued on to Lanark County, Ontario , where the Mather's settled on the west half of lot 14, concession 6, near the village of Middleville.  John and Robena spent the remainder of their lives there.  John died May 11, 1883 and Robena died February 11, 1873, and they are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Lanark Township.
