Transcriber note: This list is cited as a  "tantalizing tidbit that shows us that sometimes there are passenger lists available before 1850".

Many notices appeared in the newspapers of the 1830s and 1840s in which emigrants expressed their thanks to the captain of the vessel which transported them across the Atlantic .  One is lucky when one comes across such a notice containing the names of perhaps half a dozen emigrants.  It is even more fortunate, however, when a list turns up with more than six names, plus family composition, plus place of origin.  The notice, dated 6th June, with the list of names, appeared in the Quebec Gazette of 13 June, 1832 .  The vessel’s name has not been absolutely verified, but it can be associated with Portoferry.  She sailed from Greenock to Quebec in 28 days, her skipper being Captain Pollock. ("wife and two" is an abbreviation for wife and two of a family).
