and Mrs. Ross Mason Celebrate
25th Wedding Anniversary
- On
the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ross Mason were the
recipients of many gifts when they entertained at a family dinner. Guests
included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McLeod, Cobden; Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Angus, Miss
Willus Angus, Cobden; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hopkins, Mr. Ralph Hopkins, Deschenes,
Que.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Redtman, Donald and Joan, Arnprior; Miss Evelyn Bole,
Pakenham, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Plaunt and Mary; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Comba and
Allan; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Comba, all of Renfrew; two sons Bob and Bill both at
home. Later
in the evening some 35 friends and neighbors called in the form of a surprise
party. At the close of a very enjoyable evening Mr. and Mrs. Mason were
presented with a beautiful gift. Mrs. Walter Galbraith reading the address with
Mayor John T. Moran presenting the gift.

Student Won Scholarships Exceeding $2, 105
PAKENHAM,
May 20. (Special) - Robert
Samuel Storey, 21 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Welland Storey, of
Pakenham, who graduated with first class honors in physics at Convocation at
Queen's University, has received a $600 Fellowship from the Ontario Research
Council.
He
has accepted a Summer Position with the Atomic Energy Project at
Deep River
and will return to Queen's in the Fall for
post-graduate work.
During
the first three years of his course at Queen's he won nine scholarships totaling
$I,255. One of these was the Reuben Wells Leonard Scholar-ship of $2,00 for
second highest standing in third year. In his fourth year he had the Robert
Waddell Tutorship and another Reuben Wells Leonard Scholarship of $250. He
is a graduate of Arnprior,

Trophy finals for the first time shattered last night by the combined efforts of

Ordained To Anglican Priesthood

Cecil Steen At Pakenham Rev. H. Bedford-Jones At Toronto.
Rev.
Cecil Steen, curate of St. George's Church, Ottawa, was ordained a priest in St. Mark's
Church, Pakenham, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock
by Arch bishop Roper. Rev. Hugh
Bedford-Jones, curate of St. Simon's Church, Toronto, and son of Dr. H. H. Bedford-Jones,
rector of St. George's, was ordained priest in St. James'
Cathedral, Toronto, Sunday morning, by Most Rev. D. T. Owen.
At
St. Mark's Church, Mr. Steen was presented for ordination to Archbishop Roper by
Rev. Dr. H. H. Bedford-Jones, examining chaplain Rev. Canon W. M. H.
Quartermaine, Renfrew, read the Gospel and Rev. T. H. Iveson, Arnprior, the
Epistle. Rev. John Anderson, rector of Almonte, said the Litany. The sermon was
preached by Rev. Canon Robert Turley,
Following
the ordination a dinner was served at the home of Mr. Steen's mother, Mrs.
Albert Steen.
Present
in Pakenham in addition to those already mentioned were Rev. Howard Clark,
curate of Christ Church Cathedral; Rev. Franklin Clark, Blearbrook; Rev. P. C.
Watson, Galetta.
The
church was filled.
Both
Mr. Steen and Mr. Bedford-Jones are graduates of
Trinity
College,
Toronto.

12 - (CP) - Most Rev. Derwyn T.
Owen, Primate of all Canada, today ordained nine priests and eight deacons to the Church of England
ministry in services at St. James Cathedral.
Ordained
as priests by Archbishop Owen were: Rev. Hugh M. Bedford-Jones, Rev.
William Hills, Rev. Charles A. Johnson, Rev. William E. Kibblewhite, Rev. John
McKibbin, Rev. Elmer H. McLellan, Rev. Edward Rigby, Rev. F. H. H. Shaw, Rev.
William G. Burch.
The
following entered the order of Deacons: Donald G. Churcher, Robert W. Cowan,
Daniel W. Coughlan, Clinton D. Cross, Hugh F. Freeston, John A. W. Langstone,

Couple to Mark Sixtieth Anniversary
- Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stevenson of Wakefield, Que., will celebrate their 60th wedding
anniversary Sunday.
They will be "at home" to friends at their home at 74 Burnside avenue,
Wakefield, from 2 to 5 and from
7
to
8 o'clock
.
Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson were married by the late Rev. Robert Jones in
Pakenham in 1898. Mrs. Stevenson is the former Sarah Timmons, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John Timmons of Pakenham and Mr. Stevenson is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas A. Stevenson of
Wakefield.
Mr. Stevenson farmed near
Wakefield
until his retirement 31 years ago. The
fifth generation of Stevensons are now farming the same land. They are members
of St. Andrew's
United
Church, Wakefield, where Mr. Stevenson served as an elder for
45 years. He is also a Mason. Mrs. Stevenson still attends the meetings of the
Woman's Association, the Women's Missionary Society and the Women's Institute. They had eight children. They are Roy of Alcove, Que.; Henry of Perdue, Sask.; Mrs. John Rutledge (Elizabeth) of
Wakefield; Mrs. Lloyd Brown (Helen) of Ottawa

Formation
of a Carleton, Lanark and Renfrew Association in Vancouver
and plans to invite those county residents
to visit the West Coast city during Centennial Summer have been completed. At
inaugural meeting, Mervyn Comba of Pakenham, brother of Carleton Places'
Mayor G. W. Comba; Ed MacPherson,
sponsor of association, and W. G. Cunningham, both formerly of
Carleton Place. Reunion
date has been set around July 23.

Valley
Residents Organizing
- VANCOUVER, Feb. 14. Formation of the Carleton, Lanark
and Renfrew county Association was made here at a largely attended meeting
of former residents of these counties, in the Hotel Vancouver.
The
meeting estimated there were several thousand expatriates in Vancouver.
E.
C. (Ed) MacPherson, formerly of Carleton Place, who organized the meeting outlined plans
to promote a reunion in
Vancouver
during the Centennial year with friends and relatives from these Ontario
counties.
It
was agreed that the feature attraction for visitors would
be a picnic in Vancouver
's 1,000 acre Stanley
Park, facing the Pacific
Ocean, in the heart of the city. A tentative date
had been set for July 23.
Any
persons intending to visit Vancouver
this Summer are requested to write to E. C.
MacPherson, 4707 Blenheim, street, Vancouver
8, BC.
James
Roe, formerly of Ottawa, was named chairman of the nominating
committee, and Mrs. Robert Cowan (Renfrew), was appointed secretary in the
interim. If sufficient response is received from the east, plans will be made to
form a billeting committee.

RECENT GRADUATE of the University

New Brunswick
with a Bachelor of Science degree was Mrs. Marjorie
(Fallon) Spacek, wife of Dr. M. Spacek of Pakenham and Arnprior. Mrs. Spacek
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fallon, Bathurst, New Brunswick. Mrs. Spacek graduated from Bathurst, N.
B., high school in 1952. She completed
her first year science course at Mount
Allison
University
in 1953 and was married to Dr. Spacek in
1955. During 1955 and 1956 Mrs. Mrs. Spacek attended the University
of New Brunswick. A son, Peter, was born to Dr. and Mrs.
Spacek in April, 1956. Mrs. Spacek took correspondence course at Queen's
University 1956-57 and again in 1959 and 1960. Another son, Richard, was
born in December, 1959. Mrs. Spacek attended Carleton
University,
Ottawa, 1960 to
1961 (1962).

University Saturday. Mr. Allan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Allan,
Pakenham. He will teach in Loyalist
High School, Kingston.

Harriet of Oakville, Ontario, to Charles E. Daykin of Carp, Ontario,
in the Terry Chapel of St John's United Church in Oakville. The bride, the
former Kathleen McCreary of

was attended by her niece Miss Nancy Anderson of
Oakville. The groom was attended by his two sons,
William of Osgoode, Ontario
and Hubert of Kamloops, BC.
The
ceremony was performed by the Rev James Campbell.

included the wives of the four sons, the six grandchildren of the couple and Mr.
and Mrs. C W Ratchell.

Louise Lytle Married in Renfrew
- Miss
Marian Louise Lytle became the bride of Mr. Gerald Bernard Whalen
of
Toronto
in St. Francis Xavier
Church, Renfrew, Saturday.
Rev.
J. E. Green performed the double-ring ceremony and Miss Mamie Kelly played
the wedding music. The soloist was Mr. Donat Goulet. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Lytle of Arnprior and Mr. Whalen is the son of Mr. Thomas
Whalen of Renfrew and the late Mrs. Whalen. The bride was given in marriage by
her father and chose a full length white silk organza gown for her wedding. The
gown was styled with lilypoint sleeves, a scooped neckline and a slight train.
Lace appliqués trimmed the neckline and skirt. A headdress of organza roses and
orange blossoms held her elbow-length veil. Her jewelry, a single strand
of cultured pearls and ear-rings, was a gift of the bride-groom. She
carried a bouquet of Sweetheart roses, stephanotis and ivy. Miss Paula Duncan of
Ottawa, cousin of the bride, was the maid of honor
and Mrs. James Whalen, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was a
bridesmaid. Three cousins of the bride, Miss Barbara Anne Duncan of Almonte,
Miss Marsha Lytle of
Peterborough, and Miss Donna Lee Duncan were also bridesmaids.
Another cousin of the bride, Miss Kathy Duncan, was flower girl. The bridal
attendants wore identical dresses of pink organza over taffeta and the flower
girl wore a white frock of organza over pink taffeta.
Mr.
Jerome Whalen of
Sudbury
was best man for his brother. Mr. James
Whalen, another brother, Mr. Raymond Leclair of
Blind
River, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Mr. Jack Lytle and Mr.
Robert Lytle of Arnprior, brothers of the bride, were ushers, Master Brian
Whalen, nephew of the bridegroom,
was
the ring bearer.
The
reception was held at the Valley Hotel Restaurant in Renfrew. After a wedding
trip to the United States, the couple will live in Ottawa.
Mrs. Whalen is an Ottawa
public school teacher.

pupils can boast an all-time record for school attendance. They are, left to
right, Clinton, Marlene and Elwood Drader, children of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Drader.
Clinton
has four years to his credit, while Marlene completed nine and Elwood (Joe) has
seven straight years. In all, they have 20 consecutive years of perfect
attendance to their credit. White attending high school Marlene was an
outstanding track star, while Joe's hockey ability is attracting attention from
