Watson’s Corners: Quite an interesting event took place in this neighborhood on Tuesday, 21st at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. P. Fair when their eldest daughter Mary Jane Fair was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with A.A.. Park, cheese maker of this place. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J.A. Leitch in the presence of about 160 invited guests. The bride looked charming in a white brocaded silk trimmed with chiffon and ribbon and wore a long veil with a wreath of flowers. Miss Edith Fair, sister of the bride, was tastefully attired in a pale green dress trimmed with lace and ribbon. John Park, brother of the groom, was groomsman. The presents were numerous and among them was a Singer sewing machine.

Yesterday evening the residence of Philip
Fair of Dalhousie presented an animated scene as fully 100 guests assembled
there to witness the marriage of his daughter Mary
J. to Alexander A. Park, son of Maxwell Park of Dalhousie.
The ceremony was performed at 5:00 by Rev. J.A. Leitch of Watson’s
Corners on the verandah of Mr. Fair’s fine brick residence where the young
couple were in full view of the guests. The
bride looked handsome in a gown of cream figured silk, tulle veil and lily of
the valley in her hair and was assisted by her sister Miss Edith Fair.
The groom was attended by his brother John Park.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the guests partook of the wedding feast
after which all sought gratification in dancing and games of various sorts. Everything went merrily throughout the evening and the guests
were thoroughly satisfied with the reception given them.
The bride is exceedingly popular among her acquaintances and the groom,
who is manager of the cheese factory at the foot of Dalhousie Lake, is a young
man of excellent character and bearing. Era
Lanark Links: Another of those happy events, a very pretty wedding, was
celebrated last Tuesday evening at 7:00 at St. Andrew’s Church.
The contracting parties were Edward
Woods and Nettie McIlquham both of the young people being well known in
Lanark. Miss M. Tullis of Drummond, cousin of the bride, acted as
bridesmaid and John Kerr of Lanark was groomsman. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Buchanan and Miss
McFarlane presided at the organ with her usual ability.
The bride was dressed in cream Gloria silk and the bridesmaid was in pink
organdie and both carried bouquets of white moss roses.
After leaving the church, Mr. and Mrs. Woods drove to their new home in
Lanark followed by the congratulations and good wishes of their many friends.
Yesterday an interesting event took
place in St. John’s Church here when Miss Margaret
Lucinda Lewis of Perth was married to William
McLaren also of Perth by Rev. Canon Nesbitt. Smith’s Falls News
The Smith’s Falls Record of July 7,
says: “An interesting event took
place at the residence of John Robinson, Hutton’s Locks on last Wednesday, the
occasion being the marriage of Robert
Huddleston of North Elmsley and Miss Jennie
Dillabaugh, second daughter of William Dillabaugh of Nolan’s Corners.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mrs. Visser of Wolford, the bride
being given away by John Robinson. As
the wedding was a quiet one there was no bridesmaid or groomsman and the guests
were limited to the nearest friends of the bride and groom.
The bride was attired in a pretty costume of grey trimmed with green silk
and wore a wreath of orange blossoms.

Last week much was made of the nuptials of Edward Young of this town and Nellie Noonan, daughter of D.R. Noonan, also of Perth. The Utica, New York, Daily Press of June 28(?) published the following paragraphs referring to the marriage: “A very pretty wedding took place at St. Paul’s Church last evening when Edward Young of Perth, Canada, led to the altar one of the most handsome and popular young ladies of this city Miss Nellie Noonan. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Slaven in the presence of their many friends. The bride was beautifully attired in a costume of white silk entrained with mouselliene de sae trimmings. The bridesmaid was Miss Catharine Roach who also looked charming in a white organdie with pink silk under dress and satin trimmings. George Burke of Utica was the groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride where the happy couple received the congratulations and good wishes of their many friends. The bride’s present to the bridesmaid was an emerald ring and the groom remembered his best man with a pin set with opals. The happy couple left on the Empire State for Albany and on their return will be at home to their friends at Perth, Canada after July 10.”

Lanark Links: On Tuesday last Mr.
Cassell of Maberly was married to Miss
Golding of the same place. Holidays
such as the 12th July are rather inconvenient days for ceremonies of
this kind unless full arrangements have been previously made.
The issuer of marriage licenses and nearly all the local clergy were
absent that day and the groom found some difficulty in obtaining the performer
of requisite formalities. Finally success crowned his efforts and now the “light of
love” shines over all.

A quiet wedding took place on Tuesday
afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Stanley of North Street when their
second daughter Elizabeth Stanley was
united in marriage to J.E. Wallace,
teacher in the C.I., Ottawa. The
ceremony was performed by Rev. Canon Muckleston in the presence of friends and
family. The bride was assisted by
her sister Miss Aggie and the groom attended by George Stanley, brother of the
bride. The bride, who is one of the
most charming young ladies of the town, was the deserved recipient of numerous

lunch, the newly wedded couple were driven to Smith’s Falls where they took

A very quiet but pretty event was
solemnized at St. John’s Church on Tuesday morning by Rev. F. Kileen.
It was the nuptials of Mary Kehoe, third daughter of Henry Kehoe, West Ward, to William
Doyle of Ferguson’s Falls. Promptly
at the appointed hour the bridal party entered the church, the bride looking
very charming in a costume of striped satin cashmere and wore a dainty white hat
trimmed with plumes. Miss Maggie
Kehoe, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid while Patrick Doyle, of Drummond,
cousin of the groom, was groomsman. Many
friends gathered to witness the proceedings.
After the ceremony the guests drove to her father’s residence to
partake of the marriage feast.
Miss Julia Delisle was married in Perth a few weeks ago to M.E. Vallant(?) of St. Joseph, about three miles below Ottawa. Miss Delisle was for ten years a resident of Almonte and popular with her friends. The young couple left for St. Joseph last week. The groom has purchased a hotel there and will be its landlord.

On Tuesday morning at 8:00 St. John’s
Church was crowded to witness the marriage ceremony between two of our estimable
young people, Harry T. Noonan,
grocer, and Lillian Theresa Morrison,
the accomplished daughter of James Morrison of Mill Street.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Kileen of Redford.
The bridesmaid was Miss Spence and the groom was assisted by C.J.Foy,
barrister. During the service of
Mass, Miss Edith Lee sang Millard’s “Ave Maria” in a manner perhaps never
equaled in the church. Miss J.
Connolly rendered the hymn “Mother Dear” beautifully.
Mrs. Edward Connolly presided at the organ.
The bride wore a handsome gown of light yellow silk with white chiffon
and yellow trimmings and she carried a bouquet of cream roses.
The bridesmaid was attired in a dress of cream cashmere with silk and
pink chiffon trimmings and carried a bouquet of pink carnations.
A plenteous wedding breakfast awaited the bridal party at the residence
of the bride’s father. The
groom’s present to the best man took the shape of a hat(?) case(?) or hat and
cane(?) and the bride to her assistant a half dozen hand made silk
handkerchiefs. Mr. Noonan is an
active and useful member of the C.M.B.A. and the society did not forget him.
Their gift took the shape of an elegant upholstered oak rocking chair.

Christies Lake: A happy event took place at Elliott on Monday when Mary
Eliza Dewitt, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dewitt was united in the
holy bonds of matrimony with John Doyle
of the 6th Line. John is
one of our popular young men and a thrifty farmer. (see next issue for more on
this marriage)
St. James Church was the scene of a very
happy event on Monday morning, Sept. 12 when Mary Russell Shaw, second daughter of the late Henry D. Shaw of
Drummond, who was one of our most prominent and successful businessmen up to the
time of his death a few years ago, was married to Dr. T.W. Beeman of Perth. Monday
was an ideal wedding day. The
morning broke bright and clear and during the whole day not a single cloud
darkened the sky. The guests numbered about 70 and the church was comfortably
full with those anxious to witness the marriage.
The decorations of the chancel at the church was done in palms and autumn
flowers, the work being done by the young ladies of the congregation.
The ceremony was performed by Rector Rev. Canon Muckleston.
At the appointed hour of 11:00 the bride advanced to the altar on the arm
of her brother, H.M. Shaw. The
bridesmaids were Miss Kathleen Shaw, sister of the bride, and miss Dorothy
Shepherd of Montreal. The bridal
gown was of rich ivory satin with pearl and lace trimmings.
Orange blossoms were also used as adornments and the bride carried a
bouquet of white flowers. Miss Kathleen Shaw wore white organdie over blue silk with
white picture hat and carried bouquets of white flowers and goldenrod.
Miss Dorothy Shepherd wore a pretty frock of white muslin with white
picture hat and carried a similar bouquet to Miss Shaw of white flowers and
goldenrod. J.A. Stewart was
groomsman and W.B. Hart and E.S. Senkler were ushers.
After the ceremony a reception was held at “The House”, the residence
of the bride’s uncle Lt. Col. A. J. Matheson, M.P.P. where a very large number
of friends tendered heart felt good wishes.
The House was admirable suited for function of this kind.
With its roomy appointments and lovely grounds and during the reception
the bright costumes of the ladies and the floral decorations of the house made a
most beautiful scene. After the
wedding breakfast the bride and groom left for the east coast with the usual
accompaniment of rice and slippers. The
bride’s traveling costume was a blue homespun gown with hat to match.
The gentleman who bore the honors of
bridegroom in the marriage mentioned below was once a resident of Perth and
nephew of Mrs. Andrew Lester of this town and Mrs. Thomas Ireton of Drummond.

“The Central Baptist Church presented a happy scene last evening when James
Daniel Drennan and Margaret Kimball Sherman, daughter of John W. Sherman,
were united in marriage. The
ceremony was solemnized at 7:30 by Rev. William H. Main, pastor of the church,
officiating. The altar was banked with palms.
After the procession entered the church the wedding march was played.
Following the ushers was the bride’s attendant, Miss Laura Mae Sears.
Then came the bride, leaning on the arm of her father who gave her away.
At the altar the party was met by the clergyman, the groom and the
groom’s best man, Leonard Bradford. The
bride was attractively gowned in a traveling costume of dull green and carried a
prayer book. The bride’s
attendant carried a bunch of pale pink roses and wore a dark blue cloth gown. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Drennan left for
a trip to the west.”

St. John’s Church, Perth, was the
scene of a very pretty wedding on Tuesday morning when Thomas J. McDonagh, one of Perth’s most popular and respected
young men, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Hattie Nagle, daughter of the late Maurice Nagle of Bathurst.
Rev. F. McDonagh, brother of the groom, assisted by Rev. Father Killeen,
performed the ceremony which was very impressive.
After the bride entered the sacred edifice the organ peeled forth its
beautiful strains to one of J.L. Rottmann’s grand wedding marches.
The bride was charmingly attired in a costume of corn colored silk under
chiffon and was supported by Lettie McCaffrey who wore a costume of navy blue
with cream silk. The groom was
assisted by his brother John. During
the nuptial mass the choir rendered parts of Flake’s Mass in artistic style,
the soloists being Miss Edith Lee and Miss Jennie Connolly.
After the ceremony the happy couple drove to the residence of the
bride’s sister where a sumptuous repast awaited them. After partaking of a hearty breakfast and a few hours
enjoyments, they drove to the station where they boarded a train for Montreal
and other eastern cities amidst showers of rice.
The invited guests included only the nearest relations and friends of the
contracting parties. While the
groom has always been a resident of Perth, his genial disposition has ever
endeared him to his many friends.
On Monday, September 12 at St. Vincent
de Paul Church, Dewitt’s Corners, was the scene of a very happy event when Mary
Dewitt, eldest daughter of John Dewitt, was united in the holy bonds of
matrimony with John Doyle one of Bathurst’s most popular young men.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. T.P. O’Connor of Stanleyville.
The bride was dressed in a handsome suit of fawn cloth with brown
trimming and hat to match. The
bridesmaid was Pollie Mulloch of Westport who was dressed in a suite of green
serge. The groom was supported by
Will Dewitt, brother of the bride. After
the ceremony the bridal party drove to the residence of the bride’s father
where a sumptuous dinner awaited them. The
happy couple left the same evening for their future home near Wemyss.
A very pretty event took place at St.
John’s Church at Innisville on Tuesday afternoon of last week.
This was the marriage of Susie
Morris of Ferguson’s Falls and Thomas
Dennison of Elgin, with Rev. Mr. Fairbairn officiating.
The bride looked charming in a dress of Dewey blue and carried a bouquet
of pink and white carnations and entered the church leaning on the arm of her
brother J.H. Morris and was followed by her sister Nellie who was also dressed
in blue. After the ceremony the
bridal party and their guests drove to the residence of the bride’s brother J.
Morris where a sumptuous repast was partaken of.
After this the bridal party set out for their new home in Elgin.

assembled on Wednesday evening, October 5 at the residence of Cyrus Davis, of

The bright, beautiful morning of Monday
last was the day of the marriage of one of the fairest and most popular maidens
of Perth, Miss Edith E.(?) Lee, daughter
of John Lee, turnkey of the gaol, to a young gentleman of Ottawa, well worthy of
so precious a prize, Mr. George
O’Reilly. At 9:00 in the
forenoon, carriages from the home of the bride and residences of guests, were to
be seen proceeding to St. John’s Church where the marriage was to be
performed. Before this hour, the
large church was well filled by young and old or all denominations, most of whom
were acquaintances of the bride, and who wished to witness the interesting
ceremony. The duties of ushers were
filled by Messrs. H.T. Noonan and Peter Kehoe.
Punctually at the hour appointed, the bride alighted from the carriage
and leaning on the arm of her father, proceeded up the aisle tot eh altar steps
where the groom was waiting for her. The
organ, which was played by one of the sisters of the convent school, peeled out
in the meantime, the Wedding March. The
part of the bridesmaid was taken by Miss Mina Lappin, her cousin and Miss
Gertrude Lee, her sisters, acted as maid of honor.
The bride wore white organdy, trimmed with chiffon and pearls over white
silk with veil and orange blossoms. The
bridesmaid wore a pretty dress of cream brocade trimmed with chiffon and black
velvet picture hat. The maid of
honor wore pink organdy with large picture hat.
The groom was assisted by his brother Frank O’Reilly.
Kneeling at the altar, the two made man and wife, to be together till
death do them part, by Rev. Father Duffus, pastor with all the solemn ceremony
and ritual of the church. Miss
Connally, during its progress, sang with great taste a hymn appropriate to the
occasion. High Mass was said by the associate pastor Rev. Father
Killeen. After the service the
bridal party left the church and proceeded to the home of her parents to receive
the congratulations of friends, among whom were the father of the bridegroom.
He is John O’Reilly, license inspector of Ottawa, along with Mrs.
O’Reilly, and Miss Tessie O’Reilly, sister of the bridegroom and Mr. Edmond
and Anthony O’Reilly, cousins of the bridegroom and Miss Hunter, cousin of the
bridegroom, and Richard Devlin of the Civil Service and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
McCann, uncle and aunt of the groom and Miss Evelin Devlin of Ottawa and Fred
Lee of Ottawa, brother of the bride and Miss Trainor of Carleton Place, cousin
of the bride, and Miss DuBrois(?) of Ottawa. The bridal party then sat down to a
choice wedding breakfast together with a round of short congratulatory speeches.
The presents to the bride were remarkable for their number and variety
and value. The young couple took
their departure for their bridal trip on the 1:00 train for Toronto, New York
and Montreal to spend three weeks before reaching their future home in Ottawa.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. David Brownlee,
5th Concession Bathurst, was the scene of a merry gathering on
Wednesday evening last, 21st inst., to witness the marriage of their
eldest daughter Jennie Brownlee to
Frederick Darou, 11th Concession Bathurst.
The bride was attired in a handsome gown of pale grey brocade trimmed
with white taffeta silk and ornamented with pearls.
Miss Mary Brownlee, sister of the bride, was the bridesmaid and wore a
gown of the same material. The
groom was supported by Albert North while Rev. D. Currie of Perth performed the
ceremony. About 75 guests sat down
to a wedding supper which was most inviting.
The remainder of the evening was spent
in music and games. Among
the many beautiful and useful gifts to the bride were a handsome oak rocking
chair and centre table presented by the members of the Rosebud Council R.T. of
T. The happy couple left on
Thursday morning for their home on the 11th Line amid showers of rice
and the best wishes of all.

Watson’s Corners: The residence of Thomas Jackson, 5th Concession,
was the scene of a very pleasing event last Wednesday when his daughter Agnes
E. Jackson was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Watson
Kring of Webwood, in the presence of a large number of invited guests.
Jas. Jackson acted as groomsman and Miss Mary E. Scott was bridesmaid.
The bride looked charming in a cream cashmere trimmed with lace and
ribbon. The Rev. J.A. Leitch
performed the ceremony after which the guests repaired to the dining room where
a dinner was served. After doing
justice to the choice viands placed before them, the company spent the evening
in social intercourse, games, etc., after which the company broke up having
spent a very enjoyable evening.
