A
brilliant wedding ceremony occurred at Calvin Church, Pembroke on the 30th
June when James Lockhart, a young
merchant of that town was married to Miss Bell
Munro, daughter of J.W. Munro, the well known contractor.
A reception was given the bridal couple and the guests at the beautiful
residence of the bride’s parents , the grounds and dwelling being beautifully
decorated and lighted.
North-Lake—Married, at the residence of John Bowes, Harper, on Tuesday, June 29, by Rev. Mr. Roadhouse, Mr. Robert North to Miss Kate Lake, both of Harper.

On Wednesday, June 30 (note discrepancy
with above June 23, often dates are hard to make out) at 8:00 p.m., an
interesting ceremony took place at the residence of Walter McIlquham, Sr., 11th
Concession Drummond by which two of the oldest and most respected families of
Lanark were united. The principals
were Miss Mary McIlquham youngest
daughter of Mr. Walter McIlquham, Sr., and John
Menzies of Glen Tay. The bride
looked charming in a handsome wedding gown and was given away by her father and
Rev. D.M. Buchanan tied the knot which made them one for life.
Contrary to the usual custom on such occasion, the services of the
bridesmaid and groomsman were dispensed with which lent a certain novelty and
attractiveness to the ceremony. Fully
forty guests were present and after the ceremony was performed all sat down to a
repast of more than ordinary excellence. The
remainder of the evening was pleasantly spent in various social enjoyments.
The bride taught school for a number of years in Drummond and Lanark
townships and in that time won the golden opinion of all with whom she came into
contact. The happy couple left that evening for their future home in
Glen Tay bearing with them the congratulations and best wishes of their many

On Monday, 5th inst., a very
pretty wedding was solemnized at St. John’s Church here, the contracting
parties being John E. Manion, fireman
on the C.P.R., son of the late John Manion of Bathurst and Miss Bessie
Lee, second daughter of Mrs. Ann Lee of Perth.
The ceremony was performed at an 8:00 mass by Rev. Father Duffus, Mrs.
Connolly presiding at the organ. The
bride was given away by her brother W.J. Lee, principal of St. Joseph’s S.S.,
Ottawa; and her sister Miss Maggie was bridesmaid.
S. O’Hara, Smith’s Falls, assisted the groom.
The bride was attired in a cream brilliantine dress trimmed with chiffon
and lace and looked charming. After
the ceremony the young couple repaired to the home of the bride’s mother where
they received the congratulations of their many immediate relatives after due
justice had been done to a sumptuous breakfast.
The happy couple then left for a tour of the Adirondacks and Lake
Champlain district. Among the
handsome and costly gifts received was a silver tea service from the groomsman.

A very pretty house wedding which has anticipated by many, took place on
Wednesday, July 7 at the residence of John

Rev. W.S. Smith of Middleville performed the ceremony in the presence of
near friends and relatives of both parties, numbering about 60.
The bride was neatly attired in a traveling dress and looked the pink of
perfection. Miss Edith Munro acted

On Wednesday evening of last week, a very pretty social event took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McFarlane, Prestonvale, when their daughter Mina was united in marriage to Alexander McFarlane of Munster, Rev. Mr. Hanna(?) officiating. The marriage was celebrated at the Prestonvale Church after which the guests repaired tot eh home of the bride where a sumptuous repast awaited them and a very happy evening was spent. Miss Ethel McFarlane, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid and Duncan Gemmell of Ottawa, assisted the groom. Little Miss Ethel Hillis(?), niece of the bride, and Miss Katie Thom of Carleton Place were the maids of honor. Miss Lizzie Gemmell of Ottawa presided at the organ and played the wedding march. The bride wore cream, the bridesmaid blue and the little misses pink. Among the presents we notice a beautiful one given to the bride by the Prestonvale church as a token of their appreciation of her services as organist for a number of years. The following evening the father and mother of the groom gave a reception at their home in Munster where a large concourse of friends gathered in honor of the occasion.

to Frederick A. Ferrier of the Scotch Line.
The bride and her sister Miss Maggie Moodie of Fall River, Massachusetts,
who acted as bridesmaid, were attired in pretty cream costumes and looked
charming. The groom was assisted by his brother John R. Ferrier.
Rev. A. H. Scott officiated. There
were about 50 guests present. The
abundance of flowers and the elaborate wedding breakfast did honor to the
hostess. The young couple departed
at an early hour for their new home.

The groom is known here, having worked one year with his brother Walter
Reid. For the past five years he
has been engaged in the dairying business in Rat Portage. He left on Monday for Rat Portage but Mrs. Reid will remain
at her home in Clyde Forks until some time later on in the fall.
He was accompanied by his brother James of Clyde Forks who if he is
favorably impressed with the country, will move his wife and family there this

On Monday, St. Mary’s Church, Carleton
Place, was the scene of a very pretty wedding which was of interest to many in
this place. The contracting parties
were James Sheridan, Jr., of Dalhousie
and Nellie Maher of Lanark. The
ceremony which united the young couple in the irrevocable bonds of wedlock was
performed by Rev. Father Leclaire who is supplying for Rev. Father O’Rourke
while the latter is on his tour of the old country. The bride was assisted by her cousin Miss Emma Maher of
Almonte while C.J. Foy, barrister, Perth, performed the duty of groomsman.
The bride has been a resident of this place for the past five years and
during that time has made herself quite popular among her acquaintances.
The groom is a well to do and prosperous farmer of Dalhousie so that the
union has been contracted under the most favorable auspices.
After the ceremony the young couple were driven to their future home in
Dalhousie where a large number of friends assembled on Monday evening to extend
congratulations and join in the festivities of the occasion.

Nearly fifty friends and guests
assembled at the comfortable home of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Davis of the Elmsley
Fruit Farm, Ferry Road, on Wednesday night to witness the marriage of their
daughter Lulu Estelle(?) Estelin(?) Davis
to George Ritchie of Perth, Secretary
of the Lanark County Mutual Fire Insurance Company. The piazza was gaily decorated with Chinese lanterns and a
blaze of light from the upper and lower story windows made the house conspicuous
from far around. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. Mr. Hughes, pastor of the Methodist Church of Perth.
The bride was assisted by Miss Emily Ritchie, sister of the groom.
The bridegroom had the assistance of Robert J. Morgan of Carleton Place.
The bride was costumed in a dress of cream satin and carried a large
bouquet and the bridesmaid wore a gown of pink satin with white roses.
After receiving the congratulations of the on lookers, the bridal couple,
the family and guests sat down to a choice supper where a beautiful four story
wedding cake was cut for distribution among the partakers of the marriage feast
and outside friends. The wedding
presents were numerous as they were valuable and varied and represented many
families.

Sergeant, Zealand, when his youngest daughter Alice was united in marriage to Thomas K. Purdon of Watson’s Corners. The bride was assisted by Leva Buffam while William
McCullough assisted the groom. After
partaking of a sumptuous repast the young couple left for their home at
Watson’s Corners with the best wishes of many friends.

wedding last Wednesday evening when Jennie
Findlay, eldest daughter of Thomas Findlay was united in marriage to Peter
Simpson of Numogate. The bride,
who wore a handsome dress of cream brocade, was attended by her sister Miss
Agnes Findlay who wore a dress of green and a large black picture hat.
Miss Annie Findlay was maid of honor and after the ceremony as the bridal
party, to the strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march, proceeded down the
aisle, sprinkled the path of the bride with flowers. An elaborate dinner was served at the home of the bride after
which the happy couple drove to Mr. Simpson’s house near Numogate where a
large reception was held. The bride
was the recipient of many handsome and expensive presents, among others a silver
tea service, a handsome set of drawing room furniture and several large and
beautiful pictures.

delicacies awaited them. An hour or
so was spent in social enjoyment. Later,
amid a shower of rice the happy couple left to take the train to Ottawa.

The Ottawa Citizen of November 17
contains the following notice of the marriage of Alfred
(Fred) Lee of the Printers(?) Bureau at the capital and son of John Lee,
turnkey of the Perth jail, to one of the fair daughters of Ottawa.
The bridal couple passed through here on Thursday on the C.P.R. for
western Ontario on their wedding tour and a large number of friends assembled at
the station to give the passing congratulations.
“At St. Mary’s Church, Bayswater, yesterday morning, the marriage
took place of Fred Lee of the Printing Bureau to May
Martin daughter of John Martin of the firm Martin and Warnoch, Richmond
Road. The bride was becomingly
attired in a dress of brown beaver trimmed with white satin and was assisted by
Miss Dubrevil(?) as bridesmaid. The
groom was supported by his brother P.J. Lee and the ceremony was performed by
Rev. F. Cole. After the wedding
breakfast the happy couple left on the 10:40 train en route for Toronto where
the honeymoon will be spent.
Middleville: A wedding took place in the
Creighton neighborhood last Wednesday when Marion Jane Creighton eldest daughter of Archibald Creighton was led
to the altar by Robert A. Ramsbottom
one of Lanark’s most prosperous young farmers.
There were about 100 guests invited.
Promptly at the appointed hour of 4:00 the groom supported by his brother
Charley and the bride, supported by her sister Annie May, took their places at
the altar. The officiating
clergyman was Rev. W.S. Smith of Middleville.
The responses of both contracting parties were distinctly heard by all
present and the words that made them man and wife were followed by the hearty
congratulations of the friends of the young couple. The bride wore a beautiful white muslin dress and looked
charming and her sister was similarly attired.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the guests repaired to the dining room
where an elegant wedding supper was served by the father and mother of the
bride.

A very pretty wedding took place on
Tuesday evening this week at the home of William Patterson of this town.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. S.J. Hughes, M.A., pastor of Asbury
Church, Perth. The contracting
parties were Maggie Patterson, second
daughter of William Patterson and Rev. Richard Henry Greaves, formerly of the Montreal Conference
Methodist church in Canada and now of the Northern New York Conference of the
Methodist Church in the U.S.A. The
groom is the son of Rev. John Chapham(?) Greaves of the British Wesleyan
Conference, England. Miss Jessie
Patterson assisted the bride and Louis R. Stevenson, B.A. of the Collegiate
Institute, was the groomsman. The
bride was most attractive. Youth,
beauty and a kind, gentle manner combined with good taste in dress was conducive
to the effect. She was married in a
cream colored silk with orange blossoms. After
the service a very pleasant company
sat down to a rich and bountiful wedding supper.
The bride is a favorite in Perth as was shown by the many valuable and
useful presents she received from her former teachers and other friends.
A large company went with the bride and groom to the station for the
midnight train and saw them safely off to the city of Kingston.
They will soon begin housekeeping in their home at Thousand Island Park,
New York State.

The young couple took the evening train for Niagara, New York City, etc.

This being the first wedding in the church, the minister on behalf of the
session presented the newly married couple with a handsome Bible.

After the ceremony was performed the bridal couple drove to the bride’s
home and partook of a wedding dinner and soon after started for the home of the
groom’s parents where a grand tea and a large crowd of friends awaited them.
Supper was again served at 12:00. The
festivities were kept up until nearly morning when the company began to leave.
A quiet wedding took place at the
Presbyterian manse at Middleville on Wednesday evening, November 29 at 6:00 when
Minnie Miller, daughter of William
Miller of Middleville was united in marriage to Albert Stewart of this place. The
bride was assisted by her sister Miss Katie while Ed Woods was groomsman.
