Hopetown News:  A very happy event took place here last week when James McCurdy of Lanark was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Tena Baird daughter of Mr. D. Baird of this place.  The ceremony was performed at the manse at Middleville by Rev. Mr. Andrew.  The bride was assisted by Miss Annie McIlraith, the groom by Mr. John Miller of Lanark.  After an enjoyable evening the young couple departed for their new home in Lanark followed by the best wishes of many friends.

Kingston News:  Andrew W. Clements, Perth, and Edna L. Fiddler of this city were married by Rev. D. Laing of the Baptist Church on New Year’s Eve.  After the ceremony the reception was held at he residence of M.S. Burnett, 110 Clarence Street, after which the assembled guests were banqueted at the residence of the bride’s father Capt. E. Fiddler of Barrie Street.  Mr. and Mrs. Clements have gone on a tour through the cities of the northern states.

Watson’s Corners:  Mrs. John Scott presented her husband with a young son on New Year’s Eve night.  Mother and son doing well.

On Tuesday evening 30th December one of our most popular young men, W. H. Butler of Bathurst was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Moodie at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. Alexander Moodie of the Scotch Line.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Jas. Ross, B.D. in the presence of a large number of invited guests.  The bride was assisted by her sister Mary Moodie.  The groom was supported by his brother Joseph H. Butler.  After congratulations the party repaired to the dining room where a sumptuous repast had been prepared for them.

The gentleman referred to in the following notice, D.L. McIntyre, formerly was of Balderson’s Corners.  The article is taken from the Brantford Expositor of the 14th Jan.  “Another of Brant County’s fairest daughters is to be transplanted to the Prairie Province.  Alice Wesbrook of Oakland was married in All Saint’s Church, Mt Pleasant, this morning to Mr. D.L. McIntyre, business manager and half proprietor of the Winnipeg Tribune.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. J.P. Curran.  The bride was assisted by Miss Snider of Brantford, cousin of the bride and the groom was supported by Mr. R. O. Snider of Delhi.  The bride was given away by her brother Abram Wesbrook in the presence of a large number of invited guests.  After the ceremony a reception was held at the house of the mother of the bride and the newly married couple left on the 5:30 train for Winnipeg via Chicago and St. Paul.

On Wednesday, 21st Jan. P.C. Dowdall, druggist, and ex-deputy (unreadable word) of Almonte, was married to Miss Annie E. Boyle, daughter of Mr. Patrick Boyle of the Irish Canadian, Toronto.

Dobbie-Bond—Married, at the residence of the bride’s father, Glen Tay, by Rev. R. L. M. Houston of Merrickville, on the 28th Jan., Mr. J. N. Dobbie of Lanark to Miss Eva Bond.

Glen Tay—A very pleasant occurrence took place at the residence of Mr. G. Bond, Glen Tay on Wed. evening, 28th Jan., on the occasion of the marriage of Mr. J. N. Dobbie, the young and popular proprietor of the Clyde Hotel, Lanark Village, to Miss Eva Bond, youngest daughter of Mr. G. Bond (unreadable word) carder in the Glen Tay Woolen Mill.  The ceremony was performed about 6:00 pm by Rev. R. L .M. Houston of Merrickville.  The bride was very becomingly attired in a costume of rose satin and was assisted by Miss Hattie Armstrong of Merrickville who was also very tastefully attired in a very becoming costume.  The groom was supported by Osborne McLenaghan, son of Mr. N. McLenaghan, M.P.P.  Supper was served after the marriage ceremony was performed when the newly married couple with a number of their many friends sat down to a repast of the very best style.  The party afterwards amused themselves for a few hours when the bride and groom left for their home in Lanark.

Gardner-McIntyre—Married, at the residence of Mrs. D. McIntyre, Balderson, Mr. James F. Gardner of Perth to Miss Marjory McIntyre, by Rev. J. S. McIlraith on the 21st Jan.

Balderson—On Wednesday evening of last week a large party of friends of the bride assembled at the residence of Mrs. Donald McIntyre of Balderson to witness the marriage of her eldest daughter Margery McIntyre to James Gardner of Perth.  The ceremony took place at 6:00 pm and was performed by Rev. J. S. McIlraith, Presbyterian minister.  After congratulations the party sat down to a grand repast.  This was followed by a few hours of merry making and social festivities and the end came not until 3 or 4:00.  The presents to the bride were numerous showing the popularity of her with the good people of Drummond and Bathurst.

Oso—A pleasant occurrence took place at St. Paul’s Church, Oso, on Wednesday, 21st Jan., being the celebration of the marriage of Mr. Alexander England to Sophia Sergeant, both of the Township of Oso.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. J. Bulton, assisted by Rev. A.W. Mackey of Ottawa.  The bride was attired in a very nice costume of (unreadable words).  She was accompanied at the altar by Sophia England while the groom was supported by Mr. John M. Sergeant, brother of the bride.  After the ceremony they went to the residence of the bride’s father with their many friends where an abundant repast was partaken of after which they tripped the light fantastic until the wee small hours.

Crozier-Kimberly—Married, on the 28th ult., by Rev. J. Follick, at the residence of the bride’s father, Ezrne Healey Crozier of the County of Brandon, Manitoba to Miss Kate Kimberly, third daughter of Mr. Nelson Kimberly of Bathurst.

The Grand Forks, Dakota Daily Herald of Jan. 29 contains a lengthy notice of the marriage of Minnie O’Connor of that town and formerly of Lanark Village to Mr. P.C. Trepauter (?), druggist of Grand Forks.  A large number of valuable presents to the bride were given by her friends.  It may also be interesting to note that the groom was presented with a beautiful chair by his bachelor friends.

A large company of merry people assembled last Wednesday evening in the ple3asant home of Henry Anderson of Drummond to witness the nuptials of his daughter Jennie (?) Jessie(?) Anderson.  The fortunate and happy young gentleman was William Lightbody of Beckwith.  Rev. Mr. Henderson of Perth officiated and soon made the happy couple one.  The assembly sat down to a banquet of a most tempting character and the young couple were launched into the sea of matrimony with many kind wishes.

Oso Station—A very happy event took place here last Wednesday when Ellen Jane McCharles and George McPherson were united in the happy bonds of matrimony.  They were married at Christ Church by Rev. C. G. Hutten.  The bride was attired in a green dress trimmed with lace.  She was assisted by Maggie McPherson, sister of the groom while the groomsman was his cousin J. F. McPherson.  There was a dance at the residence of the bride’s father where the rustic swains shook the foot till daylight appeared.

On Monday, 30th March a marriage was solemnized in the Anglican Cathedral of Quebec between J. Rowlands of South Carolina and a son of the former proprietor of the Kingston News and Catharine Stuart Stevenson, daughter of the manager of the Quebec Bank, Quebec and granddaughter of the late Rev. Michael Harris of Perth.

Love-McIlraith—Married, at the residence of the bride’s father, on the 25th March, by Rev. J. S. McIlraith (cousin of the bride), Mr. Robert G. Love of Appleton to Miss Euphemia McIlraith, of Hopetown.

Love formerly of Lavant.  The officiating clergyman was Rev. McIlraith of Balderson.  The bride was assisted by Annie McIlraith and the groom by Jno. Love.  The guests were numerous and as a token of the respect the bride received many useful and valuable presents.  Among them was one given by the Hopetown Council R. T. of T.  The young couple left on Friday for their new home in Appleton.

From the East Grand Forks Review, Minnesota, 8th May, we learn of the marriage of Maggie Davidson once of this town and E. C. Playfair, formerly of Bathurst.  The item reads:  “One of those pleasant social events which always put the ladies in a flutter and which will even rouse us despondent old bachelors to a show of interest transpired at the residence of our merchant townsman S. S. Davidson Wednesday evening 6th May when his sister Maggie was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to E. C. Playfair one of the respected and energetic young men of this vicinity.  The bride was given away by her brother S. S. Davison wile Bella Playfair was the bridesmaid and Dr. Leslie of Fisher witnessed the bows that made the happy couple one for life.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. West of Fisher.  The young couple departed to their future home two miles from this village on the same evening followed by the sincere good wishes of their many friends for a long and happy life.

The residence of Mr. J.M.O. Cromwell was the scene on Thursday morning of a joyous event of the marriage of his daughter Lizzie Cromwell to Norman M. Riddell, Carleton Place, merchant.  The Rev. James Ross, B.D., Knox Church, performed the ceremony.

Mr. Colcleugh, Congregational pastor.  The bridesmaids were Maggie Caldwell, sister of the bride and Bella Fraser, sister of the groom.  Robert Patterson, solicitor, Carleton Place, and Henry Francis of Pakenham were the groom’s best men.  The bridal couple drove to Perth where they took the train on their wedding journey.

The “Boyd’s” correspondent of the Carleton Place Herald furnishes the following item:  “We give particulars this week of the marriage of Jennie Watt of Darling to William Tennant.  The happy event took place at the residence of the bride’s father in Darling on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00.  Miss Eva Tennant acted as bridesmaid and Mr. James Watt as best man.  Nothing was lacking on the occasion to make all happy and beautiful.  The bride was attired an a cashmere of the richest hue and most exquisite pattern.  A crown of roses, white as lilies, adorned her forehead.  In the evening the happy party drove to the residence of the newly married couple where a luscious repast awaited them.  After that, enjoyment prevailed into the wee small hours.”

Father Killien(?).  The bride was becomingly attired in light fawn satin and was attended by her sister Tena.  The groomsman was the brother, James A. Noonan.
