Maberly News:  On Sept. 27 the Rev. J. Follick of Maberly, at the residence of the bride’s father, married Adam Vanluven of Cape Vincent, N.Y. to Miss Lydia Leach, daughter of Mr. James Leach of S. Sherbrooke.  A pleasant day was spent there by their friends and relatives and a dance followed at night.

Templeton-Meighen—Married, at the residence of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Meighen, Perth, on Wed., 14th Nov., by Rev. Wm. Bain, D.D., assisted by Rev. A. H. Scott, M.A., Perth, Mr. Robert Templeton of Belleville to Miss Mary Osborne Meighen, youngest daughter of the late Arthur Meighen, Esq.

Elsewhere in the same paper:  A quiet wedding took place on Wednesday of last week at the residence of Mrs. Arthur Meighen, the parties most interested being Robert Templeton of Belleville, druggist, brother of George Templeton, and Mary Meighen, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Arthur Meighen.  The knot was tied by Rev. Dr. Bain of Kingston, former pastor of St. Andrew’s Church here, assisted by Rev. A. H. Scott, the present pastor.  After the wedding dinner, the couple proceeded to the railway station where they left amidst the adieux of many friends and then took the train east for Montreal, Boston, and New York, intending to be absent for about two weeks on their wedding tour.  Mr. Templeton is one of Belleville’s leading druggists and a good citizen and is well worthy of the choice he has made of a partner in his domestic household.

McArthur-Gallinger—Married, on the 21st inst., by Rev. H. F. Bland, at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. Albert Turner McArthur of Perth to Miss Ellen Elizabeth Gallinger of Drummond.

Yuill-Rankin—Married, on the 21st inst., by Rev. E.C.W. MacCall, at the residence of the bride’s mother, Mr. John Yuill of Lavant to Miss Sarah Jane Rankin, daughter of the late Mr. Peter Rankin, Esq., Lanark.

The residence of Colin Sinclair, Chapel Road, Drummond, was the scene of a marriage event on Wednesday evening 21st inst., by the marriage of their daughter Maggie Sinclair to A. Summerville of the same township.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Anderson, Baptist minister of Middleville.  Miss Minnie Sinclair acted as bridesmaid and Mr. W. McKerracher as groomsman.  The bride was attired in a pink silk dress and the bridesmaid in white satin with pink sash, the twain making a pretty  picture as they stood in the soft lamplight before the many friends who had assembled to witness the marriage.  After the knot was tied the company sat down to a sumptuous wedding diner which though not prepared by Toronto’s Henry Webb or by Perth’s caterer J.A. Laurie would have done credit to either of the above named gentlemen.  Mayor Pink of  Perth was present and made a few well chosen remarks to the health of the bride and groom which was heartily received and responded to by the groom in an appropriate manner.  The remainder of the evening was spent in the customary manner singing being the principal feature of the enjoyment and not the least contributor was wee Eddie Conlin, adopted son from the orphan’s home who sings a splendid alto which with cultivation will bring him to the front ranks.  The wee small hours having been reached, a carriage was ready to bear the happy couple to their new house (not too far distant).

Elsewhere in the same paper:  The “Record” tells of a marriage of last week Miss Lizzie Steadman to Richard Craig, merchant, all of Smith’s Falls.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Blair in the Methodist Church.  Miss Steadman is a daughter of William Steadman of Verona, formerly of Drummond and for the last few years taught school at Smith’s Falls.

Marriage Festival—The residence of M. Stanley, Bathurst, was the scene of a very pleasant gathering on the evening of December 19 when Miss Ida Stanley, sister of Mr. M. Stanley, carriage manufacturer, Perth, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony with Mr. George Gariner of Beckwith.  Miss Ida was ably assisted through the ceremony by her younger sister Miss Hattie Stanley and the bridegroom was ably supported by his brother John Gariner.  The very solemn and beautiful ceremony of the Church of England was performed by Rev. Mr. Coleman, Incumbent of the Balderson Mission at 6:00 p.m. after which the guests and friends, about 50 in number, adjourned to the dining room where a most sumptuous supper was prepared by the hostess.  Ample justice was done to the good things prepared for the occasion and the remainder of the evening was spent until the wee small hours of the morning tripping the light fantastic to most excellent music supplied by the best local talent.  The bride and bridegroom received a large number of valuable and useful articles from friends.

Kirkham-Livingston—Married, at the Rectory, Perth, on Wed., 19th inst., by Rev. R. L. Stephenson, M.A., Mr. Peter Kirkham of Bathurst to Miss Margaret Jane Livingston of S. Sherbrooke.

A pleasant event took place at the residence of William Meighen, Esq., Perth at 11:00 on Wednesday morning of this week, the occasion being the marriage of Bella Corry, niece of Mrs. Meighen of this town to James Lindsay, Receiving Accountant, Merchants’ Bank, Montreal.  The bridesmaid on this occasion was Miss Edna Meighen, cousin of the bride while the bridegroom was assisted by J. H. Honey of Montreal.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Ross, assisted by Rev. A. H. Scott, Presbyterian ministers.  About 35 or so sat down at the dinner table the guests being the clergymen and the friends of the bride and groom.  The newly married couple took the 1:47 train west to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Buffalo and other points.

Elsewhere in the same newspaper:  Middleville News:  Wedding Bells – An event which appealed to the interests of a very wide circle of friends was the marriage on New Year’s Day in the Congregational Church of John E. Blackburn of this village to Isabella McDougall of Elphin.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. E.C.W. MacCall in the presence of a throng of friends who at its conclusion were profane in their expressions of congratulations and good wishes.  As an expression of personal esteem and to signal the first marriage in the new church, a handsome bible was presented to the happy couple by Mr. MacCall on behalf of the friends whose gift it was.  Mr. Blackburn is one of our most estimable young men and for himself and his bride we wish him health and prosperity.  The bridal party entered the church to the music of an organ voluntary (?) and departed which the “Wedding March” was rendered by Miss MacCall and the church bell rang out its joyous peal.

On Monday morning in Thompsonville Rev. Dr. Campbell united in marriage Miss Sarah Jane Fraser to Mr. Thomas Inglis of Powassan, Nipissing District, who learned his business in Renfrew and came back to take away the girl of his choice.

Maberly News:  A wedding occurred last Wednesday when Nellie Leach of Oso and John McFarlane of Lanark were united in marriage.  The will take up residence in Peterborough.  He is a shoemaker.

Lanark Links:  The following is a description of the wedding of Mr. T. Z. Webster taken from the Omscee (?) Herald of 4th Jan.:  “On Tuesday 1st Jan., about sixty couples including old and young assembled at the residence of Mr. Jas. Magee to see Miss Magee and Mr. Thomas Webster of Lanark united in marriage.  The bride looked charming as also did her sister the bridesmaid.  Mr. A. Toule acted as groomsman.  Rev. Mr. Johnson performed the ceremony and Professor Williamson of Ballyduff enlivened the proceedings on the organ.  The presents were numerous and costly amounting to a total of $125.  The happy pair left for their future home in Lanark on the evening train.”

Fallbrook News—At the Presbyterian Manse, Ottawa on New Year’s Eve, by Rev. W. Herridge, Mr. Archibald E. Bain of Fallbrook married Miss Margaret Alicia Gilhuly.  Mr. A. Lebeau acted as groomsman and Miss M. Richards, Ottawa as best man.  The bride was dressed in garnet satin trimmed with cream lace and the bridesmaid with black satin trimmed with white lace.  The marriage ceremony was of a private nature.  After the ceremony was over the newly wedded couple returned to the Royal Exchange on their way from the manor, rice being showered on them from several windows.  Later on in the evening the band serenaded them when refreshments were served.  The couple started on New Year’s morning for Montreal on their wedding tour.

On Wednesday afternoon last at 1:00 a very pleasant event took place at St. John’s Church in this town in the shape of the marriage of one of Perth’s most popular young ladies Josephine E. O’Brien, youngest daughter of Mr. William O’Brien, Esq. to Mr. John Thomas O’Connor, of the Post Office Department, Ottawa.  The sacred ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. Dean O’Connor, uncle of the bridegroom in the presence of many friends of the family and a large congregation of all denominations under the solemn and impressive ceremony of the R. C. Church.  At the conclusion of the ceremony the newly joined couple with the guests drove to the residence of Mr. O’Brien where a wedding dinner awaited them.  After the dinner the party proceeded to the railway depot where they took the 3:35 train for Ottawa.  At the station here a very large number of friends and acquaintances had assembled to congratulate and bid adieu to Mr. and Mrs. O’Connor and to start them on their journey through the wedded life with their best wishes.  The bridal presents were unusually numerous and costly and came from every quarter.  Miss O’Brien by her amiable manners and disposition had endeared herself to most of our citizens.  A costly china dinner set numbering many pieces was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ryan of Toronto who were present at the ceremony.  The bridegroom J. T. O’Connor is a first class clerk in the civil service post office department at Ottawa and is one of the most efficient members of the service staff.  His first appointment in this capacity came from the Hon. D.A. MacDonald then Postmaster General in the Hon. Mr. Mackenzie’s cabinet.  Mr. O’Connor is a nephew of the Very Rev. Dean O’Connor who had been his guardian in his boyhood.

Ireton-Cunningham—Married, at Christ Church, on Wed., 6th Feb., by Rev. Mr. Muckleton, Mr. Thomas H. Ireton to Miss Margaret Elizabeth Cunningham, daughter of Mr. William Cunningham, all of Drummond.

From the issue of the 21st Dec., of the Banff Mt. Echoes:   Last night Mr. S.A. Smyth, the well known photographer artist of this place and formerly of Perth and Amelia Leach, late of London, England, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony.  The ceremony was performed at the residence of Capt. E.A. Nash by Rev. C. Williams.  Miss Annie Leach and Mr. William Barker undertook the duties of supporters of the contracting parties.  After a splendid supper the whole party adjourned to Mr. Smyth’s house where dancing was kept up until the early hours.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and joined in a hearty wish that the married life of the couple would be happy and prosperous.  Want of space prevents us from giving a detailed list of the presents but we cannot omit mentioning the present given by Capt. And Mrs. Nash and Mr. Miles which consisted of a very handsome China tea set and an ornamental silver cake stand.

On the 6th Feb., Mr. M. J. Hartney of the C.P.R., and Miss Mary J. Stafford, daughter of Mr. John Stafford of Perth, were married at St. John’s Church by Rev. Dean O’Connor.  A large number of presents were given to the couple.

Elsewhere in the same paper:  On Wednesday, 27th Feb., Thomas Jackson of Minnedosa was united in marriage to Ettie Cunningham of Drummond.  The bride was ably sustained by her sister Minnie Cunningham and by Miss May Jackson, sister of the groom.  Rev. Mr. Coleman of Balderson officiated.  The happy couple have left for the west.

Innisville Inklings:  At 5:00 last Wednesday evening, 6 March, Alfred Hammond and Sarah Wilson marched in connubial bliss down to the shore of the river of wedlock and were cozily nestled in the latter canoe that glides so rapidly down the stream of life.  Miss Maggie Hammond and Mr. Wesley Willows helped them off the shore and into the canoe and Rev. C. E. Bland gave them the push that sent them sailing o’er the sparkling waters that are intermingled with weal and woe.  Alfred Hammond is the only son of Henry Hammond and Sara A. Willows is the youngest daughter of John Willows, all of Boyd’s.  The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride’s father.  These are two of our most worthy young persons and we wish them all the best.

Elsewhere in the same paper:  There was quite a flutter in the Almonte social circles this week by the marriage of one of the most popular and accomplished young ladies Miss Minnie Menzies daughter of John Menzies, Esq., registrar to Mr. James Morris, C. E., son of Sheriff Morris, Pembroke and an equally popular resident of that place.  The ceremony took place on Wednesday forenoon at the residence of the bride’s father in the presence of a number of relatives and friends.  Rev. G. D. Boyne of Pembroke officiated.  The bride was supported by Miss Rebecca Caldwell of Lanark and both were attired in very handsome costumes and presented an appearance befitting that joyous occasion.  Mr. Alexander Morris, brother of the bridegroom, supported the latter through the ordeal.  At the close of the ceremony the company sat down to a wedding dejeuner that is said to have eclipsed anything of the kind previously seen in town and one that reflected well on the caterer Mr. E. Turner.  The esteem in which the bride is held was shown by a very large number of costly and elegant presents.  Mr. and Mrs. Morris left by the noon train for a trip to Montreal, Boston and other cities and after their return they will reside in Pembroke.  Almonte Gazette, 29th March.

Kane-McDonald—Married, in the North Burgess Chapel, Stanleyville, on Wed. 3rd May by Rev. Father T. P. O’Connor, Mr. John Patrick Kane of Westport to Miss Catharine McDonald, daughter of Mr. Edward McDonald of Bathurst.  This is the first marriage performed in the Burgess Chapel.  Elsewhere in the same newspaper: On Wednesday, 1st May, the residence of Mr. Edward McDonald, Bathurst, was the scene of a very pleasing and happy event, the occasion being the marriage of his fifth daughter Kate McDonald to one of Westport’s most popular young men, Patrick Kane, formerly of Perth.  The very pleasing and interesting ceremony was performed by Rev. T. P. O’Connor in the parish church at Burgess in the presence of a number of friends and others, after which the bridal party returned to the residence of the bride’s father where a sumptuous dinner awaited them.  The bride was attired in a cream cashmere dress handsomely trimmed with crème satin and ribbon and looked very pretty.  Her sister Aggie McDonald acted as bridesmaid and was attired in a very similar dress while John (last name illegible) of Westport supported the groom.  In the evening, about 100 young people, friends of the bride and groom, assembled and were heartily welcomed and right royally entertained.  Dancing was engaged in by one and all.  Excellent music was performed by Messrs. Cameron, piccolo, W. Cameron, violin and P. J. Leonard, guitar.  The presents received were numerous and costly among which was an elegant gold watch and chain given to the bride by her better half.  The party broke up the next morning and after wishing Mr. and Mrs. Kane a pleasant and prosperous journey through life, the visitors returned to their several homes each one being highly delighted with the enjoyable time spent.  The happy couple will reside at Westport and left for there the following day.

At the early hour in the evening of the 22nd May, the Methodist Church at Preston’s in Drummond was filled by an expectant crowd to witness the marriage of G. F. Johnston to Minnie McFarlane.  Shortly before the time appointed for the ceremony a large number of invited guests arrived and took the seats reserved for them.  Seated at the altar were Reverends Brown and Bland.  Sharp on time at 8:00 the groom and his assistants Dr. Mansell (?) Maxwell (?) of Carleton Place and Mr. Jason of Westport walked up the aisle and took their place before the altar.  The bride almost immediately after walked up the other aisle leaning on the arm of her father and followed by her assistants Miss Sarah Dulmage and Miss L. McFarlane.  Miss Green of Carleton Place furnished enchanting music as the parties entered and left the church.  The two reverend gentlemen performed the ceremony with becoming dignity and solemnity.  After the marriage the guests repaired to the home of the bride where a sumptuous dinner was served.  The bride was the recipient of beautiful and costly presents.  At midnight Mr. and Mrs. Johnston accompanied by a number of friends left for Carleton Place to take the train for Ottawa and left amid showers of rice and good wishes.  Carleton Place Herald
