- HAWKESBURY, Sept. 25.
(Special) - The death has occurred in Dr. T. W. Smith's private hospital here yesterday of
Mrs. Jennie Potter, widow of the late Lee Potter, in her 72nd year. She had been Ill for
some time.
The former Jennie Comba
was born in Pakenham a daughter of the late Richard Comba and his wife, Caroline Steen, both
natives of Ireland. Following her education she married her late husband and lived for some
time in different Ontario centres. After his death she moved to Hawkesbury and for the past
23 years made her home with a sister, Mrs. D. Seward, and a brother, Thomas Comba, both
residing on McGill street south.
In addition, a brother, Charles
Comba, resides in
Toronto
, Ont., and Stewart in
Oakville
. Ont. A sister, Mrs. Gladys Duntley,
also lives in Toronto. Also surviving are the following cousins, Gordon, Comba, Herbert
Comba, George Comba and Miss Annie Combs, all of Ottawa, Miss Evelyn Bold and Charles Comba,
of Pakenham, Mrs. C. Boyd, of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Harvey Baird, of Carleton Place, Allen
Comba, Ottawa, and R. Stewart, of Kinburn.
Following a service at the house
conducted by Rev. Arthur J. Back, pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, interment will
be made in Almonte.

COMBA - Mr. and Mrs. Cameron McPherson of Ottawa, announce the forthcoming
marriage of their daughter Heather Eleanor (McPherson), to Michael Edward (Comba),
son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Comba of Ottawa. The wedding will take place Saturday,
June 19, 1971, at 4:30 p.m. in Woodroffe United Church, Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa.
The Late William
H. Comba. A tall athletic young man of Arnprior - Wm. H. Comba - has been carried off by
typhoid fever.
Death came today, after an
illness which began far back as June last. After struggling against the disease until about
the end of August the patient felt well enough to leave his bed, but he left it too early
and a relapse set in and he went back to the sick chamber to remain until November 8th
‑ the day of his death. Deceased had spent four years in Arnprior working at his
trade‑harness making. He came to Arnprior from Almonte, to which town his remains were
taken for burial The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the home of his parents in
Almonte to the 8th line cemetery, Ramsay. Services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Edwards,
pastor of the
Methodist
Church
. Floral tributes were numerous and in
character were exceptionally rich. Deep sympathy is felt for the father and mother, brothers
and sisters, who were doomed to dwell in anxiety so long and finally see their loved one
pass away.

Comba
- Cornelius Comba died on
Tuesday afternoon at his home on
Hugh street north
, Arnprior, and his demise was a
surprise to those who knew him. He had not been well for same months but on his death, and
for days previously, he walked up street and chatted with old friends as was his wont. On
Tuesday afternoon he complained of feeling weak and a few minutes after lying down he calmly
passed away. The late Cornelius Combs was born at Cedar Hill near Pakenham village, about 75
Years ago, and he followed the occupation of a farmer. On
October 8th, 1862
, he took for a wife Miss Eliza
Dunfield, also of Cedar Hill. They tilled the soil and wrought together until fifteen years
ago when they came to Arnprior to make their home and here they have since resided. Besides
Mrs. Comba, nine children survive, namely: Wesley of Pakenham, Alfred and Wellington of
Winnipeg; Minor of
Killarney

Man.
; Herbert and Allen of Calumet; Gordon
of Ottawa; Mrs. W. O'Brien and Miss Comba of Arnprior. Chas. Comba, of Almonte, John Comba,

- Veteran of Last War Interred

. - Following a lengthy illness
in a veterans' hospital in Victoria, B. C., Murray R. Comba, a veteran of the last war, died
on Saturday, Dec. 19. Born at Pakenham in 1897, he came to Almonte when the family took up
residence here In the same year and received his education at local schools. In 1915 he
placer mined in
Northern British Columbia
with his brother, Geo. L. Comba of
Almonte. In the winter of 1915 he enlisted with the 73rd Regiment R.C.H. under the late
Major J. MacIntosh Bell and served with distinction in
France
. He was wounded on the
Somme
and was decorated for conspicuous
bravery in bringing in his machine gun alone after the entire crew became casualties. When
the 73rd regiment was broken up he was attached to the 42nd machine gun brigade in which
unit he was again decorated for courage during the heavy fighting around Passchendaele
during which he received wounds when the entire machine gun crew were casualties. As a
result of this, he remained in hospital for nearly two years. On his discharge in 1920 he
was engaged with the Canadian Steamship Company at
Montreal
,
St. John's
, and
Halifax
. In December, 1937 as the result of his
old injuries he underwent an amputation operation of his
right leg, from which he never recovered. Since 1938 he made his home at Vancouver and
Victoria, B. C. Mr. Comba never married but leaves four sisters and four brothers: Mrs. A.

Gem Comba Dies

man Gemmill C. Comba, will
be held Thursday at St. James Anglican Church at

He died last Saturday in a
Vancouver
hospital on his way home from a holiday
in
Hawaii
. He was 80.
Mr. Comba, a former
Carleton Place
businessman, was a member of the town
council and of Lanark County Council, before serving a Mayor of Carleton Place from 1957 to
1959. He served overseas in the First World War. He was a life member of the Masonic Order,
a zone commander off the Royal Canadian Legion, the president of the 100 Club and chairman
of Carleton Place Businessmen's Association.

- The death of Mr. James Samuel
Needham of Pakenham occurred at the Almonte Nursing Home on
Tuesday, January 16, 1973
. He was 85. Mr. Needham was born on
January 11, 1888
. a son of the late Henry Needham and
Agnes McKibbon. He had been a farmer in the Pakenham area, a member of St. Mark's Anglican
Church, and of the Pakenham Oddfellow's Lodge. He was predeceased by two brothers and two
sisters, John, William Henry, Allie and Lizzie. The funeral was held on, January 19, from
the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, with burial at St. Mark's Cemetery, Rev. Roberts conducted
the funeral services. Pallbearers were Carl Fisher, Gordon Dool, Stewart McCann, Nelson
Sadler, Herb Timmins and Borden McGill.

Mrs. Comba was very active in community affairs, being a past president of the Carleton
Place Rowing Club, the Mississippi Golf Club and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Chamber of
Commerce. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Almonte Chapter; Mississippi
Rebekah Lodge and the Ottawa Shrine Club. Her greatest hobby was antique collecting. Besides
her husband, she is survived by a son, Stewart, of
Carleton Place
; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. William
Collie, Jr.), of
Appleton
and Beverley (Mrs. Ronald Salisbury),
of
Oakville
; three grandchildren and three great
grandchildren. The pallbearers were Messrs. R. V. McCarten, Rollin Saunders, Roy McKittrick,

husband, she is survived by three daughters, Thelma (Mrs. C. W. Atkinson),

Wood.
