Wedding Anniversary Celebrated

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kerfoot and Many Friends
1929
On the
occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Kerfoot were at home to a very large number of friends at their residence,
McEwen avenue, on Saturday afternoon and evening, from 4 to 6, and from 8 to 10.
Hearty congratulations and good wishes were showered upon Mr. and Mrs. Kerfoot
by their friends many being present from out of town, from Ottawa, Portland,
Kingston, Cornwall, Seeley's Bay, and Brockville to extend their felicitations
on the Silver Wedding Anniversary. The rooms throughout the house were pretty
with roses and snapdragons.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Gallagher of Portland, Mrs. Kerfoot's mother,
poured tea, and Mrs. G. F. McKimm poured coffee. Mrs. J. Semple cut the ices,
and the serving was looked after by Mrs. J. T. Pearson, Mrs. E. ,H. Whan, and
the Misses Marion Lewis and Myrtle Condie. Mrs. W. A. Gray
ushered the guests to the tea-room and Miss Marjorie Kerfoot looked after the
door.
In the evening Mrs. A. Gallagher poured tea, and Mrs. J. J. Kerfoot of
Brockville poured coffee, and Mrs. J, M. Connerty cut the ices. Looking after
the serving were Miss Mary McCallum, Mrs. H. Rickerd, Mrs. H. W. Kerfoot, Mrs.
J. Semple, and .Mrs. Ernest Kerfoot. Miss Florence Gallagher served punch in the
sunroom.
The tea table was very pretty, with a beautiful large hand embroidered
cloth. Typical of a Silver Wedding Anniversary the table decorations were
carried out in silver with candles. In the centre of the table was a bouquet of
roses in a silver basket which was a gift from the bride's mother in honor of
the anniversary. The silver tea service used was likewise a gift from her father
for the occasion. A lovely large wedding cake was suitably decorated and had as
a centre a vase of lilies of the valley.
Delightful music was furnished by Mr. Bryant Robinson A. T. C. M. and Mr.
A. Maynes of Toronto. Vocal solos were rendered by Mr. Boyce Kerfoot of
Brockville and vocal duet’s by Messrs Dr. and Ernest Kerfoot. Mr. Bryant
Robinson acted as accompanist.
The many congratulations and good wishes received by Mr. and Mrs. Kerfoot
on this occasion included an official document of congratulations from Mayor D.
H. Gemmell from the town of Smiths Falls. Among those who called during the day
was Mrs. T. H. Leggett of Ottawa who was passing through with friends, and who
was the maid of honor for Mrs. Kerfoot twenty-five years ago at the wedding
which took place in Portland, Ont. in
the Methodist Church there, and at which Rev. G. S. Clendennin, the pastor, who
is now in western Canada, officiated. The bridesmaid was Miss Ida Kerfoot and
the groomsman, Dr. H. W. Kerfoot. Mr. and
Mrs. Kerfoot have since resided in Smiths Falls where they have been blessed
with much happiness and prosperity.

Sixth Anniversary 1931

and Mrs. W. J. Keays
On
Friday evening April 24, the members L O. L. No. 202 invited their friends to
the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Keays, Harper to celebrate with them the
thirty-sixth anniversary of their marriage The evening was pleasantly spent in
dancing and games Refreshments were Served at midnight after which Mr. Lloyd
Ferrier Master of the L.O.L. 202, on behalf of the lodge, congratulated Mr. and
Mrs. Keays on their anniversary, and wished them many happy returns of the day.
He also read a letter of congratulation from Mr. Hodder of Bell's Corners,
former rector at Balderson. Mr. Keays expressed his thanks for the many kind
remarks made. All joined in singing "For They are Jolly Good Fellows."
Dancing was continued until the early hours of the morning. All returned home
feeling they had spent a very enjoyable evening

and Mrs. N. E. Zimmerman, of Renfrew, who will be in Ottawa for the marriage of
their son, Lance Corporal Robert Edward Zimmerman. C.M.S.C., to Miss Edith
Patricia Day, eldest daughter of Sergeant Major (W.O. 1) C. A. Day, M.M., which
takes place on Saturday, will be the week-end guests of Mrs. H. G. Munro.

Another
delightfully arranged social event was held on Friday evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. James Alexander, Russell St. when their daughter, Miss Greta Alexander
gave a miscellaneous shower and bridge in honor of Miss Doris Sloan, a bride of
this week. There were over forty guests present, received by the hostess and her
mother. In the rooms, blooms in a riot of lovely colors were used effectively. A
bride's table was prettily centred with a "doll" bride and minute
bride's cake. On the arrival of the bride elect, a gayly decorated tea wagon on
which a. "mock" bride was arranged was drawn into the reception room
while Miss Myrtle Condie played the wedding chorus and this vehicle was laddened
with pretty and useful gifts each accompanied by humorous but sincere good
wishes to the popular young bride-to-be. The cards were read by Miss Greta
Alexander and brought forth much merriment. Miss Sloan expressed in a gracious
manner her sincere thanks and appreciation. At nine o'clock bridge was played, a
number of gentlemen friends being invited for the cards. Later a dainty lunch
was served. Among those assisting in the serving were Miss Elva Cameron, Mr. Ted
Roadhouse and Mr. Norman Douglas.

Mrs.
F. Purdy and Mrs. Stewart I Gilroy were hostesses last Friday afternoon at a
kitchen shower in honor of Miss Elsie McBride whose marriage takes place
shortly. In the pretty tea-room decorations were carried out in a color scheme
of yellow and white and the table was presided over by the bride-elect's mother,
Mrs. C. W. McBride, and Mrs. R. Curtis. The many useful gifts were wheeled in by
little Ruth White of Toronto, niece of the hostess and as the bride-to-be
entered, Miss Dorothy Lewis played "'Here Comes The Bride." Miss
Doreen Montgomery read the verses which accompanied the gifts which added to the
amusement of all present.
Honor Miss Hobbs 1928
Mrs.
Ernest Bradley and Mrs. John Nesbitt, Hazeldean, were joint hostesses at the
home of Mrs. Nesbitt, at a delightfully arranged miscellaneous shower in honor
of Miss Ethel Hobbs, whose marriage takes place neat week. Miss Hobbs has been
teaching in the community for about four years. The guests, numbering 45, were entertained, on the lawn which
was suitably decorated for the occasion. The bride-to-be was the recipient of
many beautiful and useful gifts which were drawn in on a prettily decorated
wagon by Master Gordon and Miss Muriel Young. Dainty
refreshments were served Mrs. A. Hobbs and Mrs. J. O. Clarke poured tea. Those
helping to serve were the Misses Blanche Richardson, Lorna Nesbitt, Lola
Carscadden and Blanche Nesbitt.

shower in honor of Miss Grace Workman, whose marriage takes place early in

her daughter, Miss Anna Hagan, one of this month's brides. The rooms were

A miscellaneous shower was held in honor of Miss Mabel Mather of North
Gower, one of this week's brides, at the home of Mrs. John R. Wallace. When the
bride-to-be entered she was seated in a chair arranged under white streamers,
and surrounded by many useful gifts. As the presents were about to be opened a
shower of confetti came unexpectedly from above the streamers. An enjoyable
social time was spent and icecream and cake were served at the close. Those

miscellaneous shower, in honor of Miss Muriel Gault, was held in the town hall,
North Gower. When the bride-to-be entered the hall, she was escorted to the
place of honor reserved for her under an inverted umbrella of pink and white
tissue paper, which cleverly concealed a quantity of confetti. This immediately
showered down upon her when she was seated. The gifts were presented in a
beautifully decorated wagon drawn by little Miss Margaret and Master Billie
Hicks. Miss Gault thanked the young folks most heartily for the beautiful gifts

Bride to Be Olive Allison 1933
Special
- A very happy time was spent at the Summer cottage of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Morris, on the Rideau, at Burritt's Rapids, when Mrs. Morris and Miss Edith
Davies entertained jointly, in honor of Miss Olive Allison’s' approaching
marriage. The occasion was a miscellaneous shower. About 50 guests were present.
The cottage was tastefully decorated and the rooms were adorned with Summer
flowers. The guests were received on the lawn where colored lights were used for
lighting. The gifts were presented by Misses Lila Davies and Bessie Morris, who
represented a bride and groom, and arrived in an old fashioned buggy, decorated
for the occasion, and drawn by Jack Morris. After singing appropriate songs, the
guest of honor was assisted to a seat in the buggy where the gifts ware
presented, and un wrapped, when all proceeded to tire cottage where refreshments
served and a social hour spent.

Shower Miss Irene Main
Miss
Eileen Quackenbush entertained last Thursday evening at a Miscellaneous Shower
in honor of Miss Irene Main whose marriage to Mr. Clarence Quackenbush take
place this week. The rooms were nicely decorated with large yellow Alums and
baby Mums while the table decorations were carried out in pink and white. Many
amusing and interesting games and contests were enjoyed by all. Miss Augusta
Sylvain played several piano selections in her usual pleasing manner. To the
strains of the Wedding March, Little Jean McWilliams, who was charmingly dressed
as a bride, wheeled in a prettily decorated wagon filled with beautiful and
useful gifts. Miss Main very pleasingly thanked the donors and then all joined
hands and slang "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow." During the song, the
bride-to-be was surprisingly showered with confetti from an unknown source.
Dainty refreshments were then served by the hostess and her mother. The guests
departed shortly afterward with all good wishes for the bride-to-be.

MacGibbon in honor of Miss Violet McEwen whose
marriage, will take place at the end of this month. The gifts were presented to
Miss McEwen by Mrs. Morton Brownlee, of Richmond. Refreshments were served by
the hostesses, Mrs. MacGibbon, Mrs. Leabourne McEwen and Mrs. George McCulla,

refreshments were served. The assistant teacher, Mr. Joseph McCordick, was also

Mrs. W.
W. Cook was hostess at a nicely arranged tea on Saturday afternoon, for the
young friends of her daughter, Lois, whose marriage takes place shortly. A
profusion of autumn bloom was effectively used through out the house. The tea
table was attractive with a lace luncheon set and centred with a large silver
basket of pink and white asters and mauve statice, from which there were
streamers of pink and silver ribbon; low silver candle sticks held tall pink tapers. Mrs. O.

poured tea and Mrs. H. A. Amy cut the ices. T Mrs. E. A. Cameron ushered the
guests and assisting in the tea room were the Misses Greta Alexander, Doris
VanCamp, Marion Walker and Bebe Duffield. Assisting through the house were Miss
Jean Snyder, Miss Gladys Johnston, Mrs. Donald Grant, Mrs. Sandy McDonald, Miss

were her mother and her grandmother, Mrs. Wm.
Fitzpatrick. In the evening, a number of Miss Cook's neighbors gave her a
pleasant surprise in the form of a "Pickle and Jam Shower", and a very
happy time a was, spent. Mrs. John McCallum poured tea and Mrs. D. A. Condie cut
the ices. Mrs. Royden Armstrong and Mrs. R. Jenner served.

and Mrs., J. E. Craig Observing Anniversary On Sunday.

GOWER, Ont., June 15. - Special - Mr. and Mrs. James E. Craig, who have been
married for 60 years, will offer thanksgiving at service in Holy Trinity
Anglican Church here at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, June 19.
On June 19, 1878, Mr. Craig and the former Grace Clara O'Loughlin were
married in North Gower by the bride's father, Rev. Anthony J. O'Loughlin, then
rector of the parish. Mr. Craig was born at North Gower, January 4, 1850, son of
the late James Craig and the former Jane Davis, both of Ireland. His father was
clerk of the township for ten years, and was succeeded by his son in 1884. Only
at the end of 1935 did the latter relinquish this task, in turn being succeeded
by his son, Anthony. Mrs. Craig was born in Kingston, September 22, 1856,
daughter of Rev. Anthony O'Loughlin and the former Rebecca Myles, both of
Ireland. Of their nine children, one son, John, died in his youth. Three
daughters and five sons survive, one of whom is in Calgary and one in Montreal.
All the children, and 10 grandchildren are expected to be present for the public
service. Both Mr. and Mrs. Craig are still keenly interested in presentday
events. During the afternoon and evening of Saturday, friends of the family
will be welcomed in the old stone house among the maples, here Mr. and Mrs.
Craig have lived since they were married.
