MARRIAGES     

July 25, 1970             FERRILL - JAMES - Captain and Mrs. Raymond E. Ferrill of Ottawa , announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Donna Elaine, to Mr. Lawrence A. James, son of Mrs. Merium A. James of Manotick and the late Mr. H. James. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Gardiner, and Mrs. R. J. Ferrill and the late Mr. Ferrill of Carleton Place . The wedding will take place Saturday, July 25, 1970 , in the Protestant Chapel, Canadian Forces Base, Rockcliffe.

October 3, 1970             Crawford - Bartlett Wedding         Saint George's Anglican Church, Clayton Ontario, was the site of a pretty fall wedding, where Sharon Ann, only daughter of  Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bartlett, of R. R. #2, Almonte, exchanged wedding vows with Mr. Richard John Crawford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Crawford of Almonte. The wedding took place October 3, 1970 , at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. Horsey officiating. The organist was Miss Kathy James. Given in marriage by her father, the young bride wore am adorable floor-length, princess styled gown in Swiss organza with full-length lace Insertions, high collar and little girl puffed sleeves. She carried a cascade of a deep plum orchid and a pink rose with stephanotis and baby’s breath. Miss Ruth Johnson was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Shirley Fulton, and Mrs. Wayne LaRiviere. Lisa Aldus, cousin of the bride was flower girl.  The bridesmaids wore floor length, princess-styled gowns with stand up collars and little girl puffed sleeves in teal blue crepe georgette over taffeta. They carried nosegays of pink and blue carnations, white daisy mums and baby’s breath. The flower girl was adorable in her floor-length, princess gown with puffed sleeves of pink twinkle and a pink satin bow and ties. She carried a small basket of miniature flowers similar to those of the bridesmaids. The best man was David Wylie. Ushers were Reid Kilburn and Steven Bartlett, brother of the bride. Robert Morrow, cousin of the groom, was ring-bearer. The bride's mother looked lovely in a long sleeved, fitted mink shade wool dress with dark brown shoes and bag, an emerald green velvet hat with matching gloves and a brown stole. The groom's mother wore an attractive ensemble in pink lace over taffeta, with a pink chiffon hat and black gloves, purse and shoes. Following a dinner at Almonte United Church , the couple left for Lake Placid , New York . The bride wore a deep plumcoloured pant dress and a hot pink trench-styled coat and  black accessories.   Mr. and Mrs. Crawford will reside in Ottawa , Ontario . Guests came from Winnipeg , Orillia , Peterboro, Kettleby, Ottawa , and surrounding districts.

SHOWERS  Previous to the wedding the bride was honoured with three miscellaneous showers at the homes of Mrs. Alfred Renit of Carleton Place, Mrs. David Aldus of Richmond and Mrs. Nancy James and neighbours of Union Hall and district.

October 17, 1970       SCHNUPP - THORPE WEDDING            St. James Anglican Church was the scene of a pretty wedding Saturday, October 1970, when Ruth Anne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Thorpe become the bride of Bernard Robert  Schnupp, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Dionne Schnupp of Ottawa . The double ceremony was performed by Rev. Daniel Fleming and Rev. Herbert Horsey, with Mr. Ralph Langtry as organist. Given in  marriage by her the bride wore a white crystal crepe gown fashioned on empire lines, with a cathedral train. The sleeves and the front of the dress were appliquéd with  Guipre lace. Her floor length illusion  veil was by lace petals, bordered with seed pearls and aurea borealis. She carried a bouquet of pink sweetheart roses, white carnations and trailing stephanotis. The bride was attended by her sister Mrs. Gary Ford as matron of honour and Miss Theresa Finklestein and Miss Francioise Raymond as bridesmaids. Miss  Sylvie Schnupp was flowergirl. The matron of honour and bridesmaids wore identical floor length empire gowns of capri-blue nylon crepe over peau de soie, trimmed with white lace. They carried bouquets of deep yellow and white pompom mums. The flower girl wore a short empire dress of layers of pink nylon frills. She carried pink miniature carnations and pale yellow pompom mums. The groom was attended by Mr. Keith Madore as best man and Mr. Dennis Thorpe and Mr. John Garner as ushers, Master Jamie Ford was ringbearer. The mother of the bride wore a cranberry red crimpknit coat and dress ensemble, with matching accessories. The groom’s mother wore a green knitted dress with matching crimpknit coat and accessories.      Following the wedding a reception was held at the Mississippi Golf Club.    Out-of-town guests present were from Montreal, Peterborough, Stratford, Ottawa, Hull and Almonte. The couple will reside in Ottawa .

April 17, 1971     WALKER - DEZELL   Colleen Dezell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dezell and Mr. Roy Walker of Cape Town, South Africa were married in Zion-Memorial Church, April 17. Among those from a distance was the groom’s mother, Mrs. J. Walker of Pretoria. Colleen and Roy are residing in Cape Town .

NEL - DEZELL        From South Africa comes this picture of the wedding of Dianne Elizabeth Dezell, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dezell of Carleton Place , to Johannes Frederik Nel, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nel. Mr. Nel is First Secretary of the South African Embassy, Ottawa. The ceremony was performed at Vootrekkerhoogte Chapel of the Free Churches, Pretoria, South Africa. Maid of honour was Miss Colleen Dezell. The young couple are residing at Saldanha Military Academy , Saldanha , Cape Province , South Africa .

Wednesday, July 28, 1971                         Craig - Willows          Baskets of white and yellow shasta daisies and yellow gladiolas decorated Boyd's United Church on Saturday, June 26, 1971 at 7 p.m. for the marriage of Miss Beth Willows, daughter of Mrs. Russell Willows and the late Mr. Willows to Mr. William Craig, son of Mrs. Jack Craig and the late Mr. Craig of Ottawa. Rev. K. J. Murray performed the double ring ceremony and Miss Mabel Robertson was organist. Given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Raymond Willows, the bride was attended by her sister, Miss Heather Willows, as maid of honour. Miss Christine Lalonde, niece of the bride, was flower girl. For her wedding the bride chose a street length gown of silk shantung, featuring long sleeves with an empire waist with a band of lace daisies. Her short veil was held in place with a matching head piece of lace daisies. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses.  The maid of honour wore a street length gown of yellow shear interspersed with white daisies over yellow satin. She wore a head piece of small yellow bows. She carried a basket of white and yellow daisies. The flower girl was sweet in a gown designed the same as the maid of honour's. The best man was John Craig, brother of the groom, the ushers were Mr. Terry Craig, nephew of the groom, and Mr. Steven McGill, nephew of the bride. Following the ceremony a supper was served in the church basement to some 75 guests.         For travelling to Eastern Ontario the bride donned a long sleeved dress of pink fortrel complemented with a sleeveless figured coat. Upon their return the couple will reside In Ottawa.

September 4, 1971                       SMITH - McNEELY - On Saturday, September 4, 1971 , Miss Dorothy Emily McNeely and Mr. Ivan Earl Smith exchanged wedding vows at 3 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church. Carleton Place . Rev. F. A. McGregor officiated at the service. Mr. Ralph Langtry was organist and Mr. J. M. Whitehead was soloist. The bride was attended by Miss Kathie Robertson as maid of honour and Misses Nancy Lyons and Kim McNeely. Mr. David McNeely assisted the groom and the guests were ushered by Mr. Arnie Smith an Mr. Allan McNeely. Following the wedding a dinner was served in the church hall.

SHOWERS   Prior to her wedding Mrs. Smith was entertained at the following miscellaneous showers. In Portland with Mrs. Eric Simpson, Mrs. Wilmer Lyons and Nancy as joint hostesses. At the home of Mrs. Brenda Hall assisted by Mrs. Sandy Mast and Mrs. Lorraine Robertson as joint hostesses entertaining nurses, staff of C. P. & D. Memorial Hospital. At the home of Mrs. Joyce Bridges assisted by Mrs. Ed Rathwell, Mrs. Ken Robertson and Kathie as joint hostesses. On each occasion the honored guest received many lovely gifts for which she sincerely  thanked her friends.

MARRIED AT PERTH - Mr. and Mrs. George M. Gardiner who were married recently in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Perth . The bride is the former Eleanor Rae Erwin, daughter of Mrs. Kenneth Erwin and the late Mr. Erwin, and the groom is the son of Mr. James C. Gardiner and the late Mrs. Gardiner.

Gardiner - Erwin   An interesting wedding took place in St. Andrew's Presbyterian. Church at Perth on Saturday, June 27, when Miss Eleanor Rae Erwin was united in marriage with Mr. George M. Gardiner. Rev. R. J. Gillanders performed the ceremony and Miss Lois Anne Stevens of Ottawa was soloist. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kenneth Erwin of Perth and the late Mr. Erwin, and the groom is the son of Mr. James C. Gardiner and the late Mrs. Gardiner of Carleton Place .          The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Harry Erwin. Miss Norma Devlin of Perth was maid of honour and Miss Ida Somerville of Ottawa was bridesmaid. Miss Robin Erwin, niece of the bride, and Miss Karen Gardiner, niece of the groom, were flower girls. Mr. Keith Gardiner was best man and the guests were ushered by Mr. John Chamney and Mr. Eldon Henderson of Carleton Place. Following the reception at the Opinicon at Chaffey's Locks, the couple left for a trip to the east.

Gardiner - Houston         St. Chad's Anglican Church, Schumacker, Ontario, effectively arranged with white mums, formed a pretty setting for a quiet but lovely early fall wedding and one of interest to residents of Carleton Place and district, on Saturday afternoon, September 12th, at two o'clock, when Miss Evelyn Houston, Reg. N., of Carleton Place and Mr. James Gardiner, of R.R. No. 1, Carleton Place. were united in holy matrimony. The Right Reverend James A. Bishop of Moosonee, officiated at the ceremony, following which Holy Communion was served the bride and groom. The organist was Mrs. F. Booker, of Timmins, Ontario, who played soft wedding music throughout the service. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. G. H. Loosemore, of Carleton Place and the bridegroom's attendant was his elder son, Mr. Keith Gardiner of Kingston. Mr. George Gardiner, R.R. No. 1,. Carleton Place, also, a son of the bridegroom, ushered the guests. The bride was very lovely wearing a moss green wool suit with cranberry red accessories, complimented by a corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Loosemore was very charming in a Liberty print gown in brown and green tones and a brown and green feathered hat. A corsage of bronze mums complimented her costume. Following the service a reception was held in the Goldroom of the Senator Hotel, after which the bride and groom left for a motor trip to Western Canada. Guests attending the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gardiner, Kingston; Mr. and Mrs. George Gardiner, R. R. No. 1, Carleton Place ; Bishop and Mrs. Wootton and family, Dian, David and Mary.  Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner who will reside at R.R. No. 1, Carleton Place , are both widely and well known in town and district and have a host of friends who join in extending best wishes and congratulations.

Sisters Married At St. James' Church Saturday    St. James’ Anglican church was the setting for a pretty and wedding on Saturday morning  at 11 o'clock , when Miss Hilda Elizabeth (Beth) Keays and  Miss Marion Claire Keays, daughters of  Mrs. R. Edwin Keays and the late Mr. Keays were united in holy marriage. Miss Hilda Elizabeth becoming the bride of Mr. Benjamin Francis Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman W. Smith of Boharm, Sask. and Miss Marion Claire, the bride of Mr. James Robert Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Strong of Perth.  Rev. D. F. Weegar officiated at the service. The altar was effectively arranged with white mums, and the guest pews were marked with satin, bows and lily-of-the-valley.          Given in marriage by Mr. Norman W. Smith, father of her fiancé, Miss Hilda Elizabeth Keays was attended by Miss Lorna Churchill, of Kingston , as maid-of-honor, and Miss Muriel Chamberlain, of Brockville , was bridesmaid. Miss Marion Claire Keays who was given in marriage by her uncle Mr. Harold Lewis, was attended by Miss Mary Cooke, of Ottawa , as maid-of-honor, and Mrs. Sterling Graham, of Stittsville, was bridesmaid. The best man for Mr. Smith was Mr. Walter Lewis, cousin of the bride, of Charlottesville , Va. , U.S.A. , and Mr. David Strong, of Perth was best man for his brother. The ushers were Mr. Glenn Jeffrey, of Toronto , and Mr. Allan Strong of Perth . Miss Mabel Brown was organist. The service was fully choral and  as the brides entered the church, the choir preceded them singing "Lead Us Heavenly Father Lead Us" and the communion hymn, "Breathe on me Breath of God". During the signing of the  register, the choir sang "0 Perfect Love". The lovely young brides wore identical floor length gowns of white embroidered organdy over taffeta and their finger tips veils of nylon tulle were trimmed with lily-of-the-valley. They both carried a white orchid with stephanotis. The four bridesmaids wore floor Iength gowns of red taffeta, designed identically, with matching head dresses and carried white spray mums. The brides' mother wore a navy blue crepe gown with white accessories and a corsage of yellow sweetheart roses. Mrs. Smith, mother of the bridegroom, wore a fawn coloured suit with navy accessories and a corsage of yellow sweetheart roses. Mrs. Strong, mother of the bridegroom, was gowned in blue crepe with white accessories and a corsage of white roses. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Parish hall for some 70 guests. The table was centered with two, three tiered wedding cakes, flanked by early summer blooms and white tapers in silver candelabra. Dr. C. R. MacDowall proposed a toast to Mrs. Smith ( Elizabeth ) and Mr. M. B. Davidson, uncle of Mr. Strong of Toronto proposed a toast to the latter's bride (Marion Claire) and one to the Queen. Later the young couples a wedding trip to the East coast and Eastern United States . For travelling Mrs. Smith wore a navy blue worsted suit with winter white accessories and a white orchid corsage. Mrs. Strong donned a brown worsted suit with beige accessories and a white orchid corsage.  On their return from their trip Mr. and Mrs. Smith will reside in Toronto , and Mr. and Mrs. Strong in Carleton Place for the present. Out-of-town guests were from Toronto , Brockville , Kingston , Peterboro, Brampton , Charlottesville , Virginia , U.S.A. , Vancouver , B.C. and Moose Jaw , Sask.

GRAHAM - DEZELL    St. John's Anglican Church, Innisville, was decorated with white lilacs and ferns for the wedding on May 28, 1955 , at 3 p.m. of Miss Joan Marilyn Pearl Dezell of Carleton Place and Mr. Gerald Sterling Graham of Stittsville. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver H. Dezell of Carleton Place and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton D. Graham of Stittsville. Rev. A. E. Allsopp officiated at the ceremony and the wedding music was played by Miss Mary Cooke of Ottawa . Miss Alice Cameron of Spencerville sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "0 Perfect Love."  Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by her cousin, Mrs. Donald Brown, (nee, Gwen Dezell) as matron of honor. Miss Claire Keays and Miss Marion Erwin were the bridesmaids and the flower girls were Miss Karole Seabrooke, niece of the bridegroom and Miss Ruth Eleanor McCall, cousin of the bride. Mr. Gil Graham was best man for his brother and the ushers were Mr. Robert Dezell, brother of the bride and Mr. Kenneth Wall. The bride wore a gown of rose point lace over slipper satin, designed with a bouffant skirt ending in a long chapel train. The fitted bodice was fashioned with an embroidered yoke, Peter Pan collar and long sleeves ending in points over the hands. A tiara of seed pearls held her fingertip veil and she carried a shower bouquet of red Sweetheart roses and lily-of- the- valley. The matron of honor chose a gown of emerald green nylon net over green taffeta and the bridesmaids wore similar dresses in a spring green. They carried cascade bouquets of white mums. The flower girls wore dresses of white embroidered nylon over spring and green taffeta carried white baskets of white mums. All wore headdresses of white flowers. Mrs. 0. H. Dezell, mother of the bride wore a Dior blue gown crepe and lace with navy accessories. Mrs. Graham wore a lime green gown, black picture hat and black accessories. Following a reception held in he Ferguson’s Falls community hall, where one hundred and two guests sat down to a bounteous  John's Guild, the couple left on a honeymoon trip to Quebec City and the Adirondacks. For travelling, the bride wore a Queen's blue suit with a matching hat and navy blue accessories. A corsage bouquet of pink carnations completed her ensemble. Mr. and Mrs. Graham will reside in Stittsville. Out of town guests included Miss Claire Keays, Miss Mary Cooke, Miss Ileane Gardiner, Miss Marion Erwin, Miss Blanche Sheppard, Miss Joan Paul, Mr. and Mrs. John Packman, Mr. Robert Sheppard, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Trousseau Tea Held For Bride-Elect           Mrs. Oliver H. Dezell entertained at a tea on Monday afternoon and evening May 23, at her home McCreary's in honour of her daughter, Joan whose marriage  to Mr. Sterling Graham took place on Sat. May 28th. The guests were received by the hostess, who wore a turquoise blue afternoon dress with a corsage bouquet of pink carnations and her daughter, who wore a Dior model in shades of green rose and rose with green jewelry and a corsage of rose carnations.  They were assisted by Mrs. Milton Graham, mother of Miss Dezell's fiancé who wore powder blue sheer with a corsage of  white carnations. The tea table, with its cut-work cloth, had as its centre piece a cut glass bowl of white and pink tulips, flanked by tall pink tapers in cut glass holders. The same blooms with white lilacs were used in the other rooms of the house. Presiding at the tea table were Mrs. Wm. Sheppard, Mrs. Sam Rothwell, Ferguson’s Falls, Misses Mabel and K. B. Sheppard, Hamilton, Mrs. Harold Stevens and Mrs. H. McCreary, McCreary and Mrs. Ed Fleming and Mrs. Roy Munshaw of Carleton Place. Assisting in the tea room were Assisting in the tea room were Misses Blanche Sheppard, Lois Dowdall, Connie McCreary, June Rothwell, Ann Weir, Pearl Dowdall and Eleanor Stanley. Others assisting at the tea were Misses Claire Keays, Ileane Gardiner, Joan Paul, Mrs. Arthur McCall, Mrs. Kenneth Dowdall and Mrs. Robert Brydges.

WILLOWS - CRAIG      Almonte United church was the scene of a pretty wedding an May 28th at 2:30 o'clock when Jean Elsie, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Ross Craig of Ramsay, became the bride of Mr. John Keith Willows, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Willows of Boyd's with Rev. J. R. Anderson officiating.  The bride was given in marriage by her father and was attended by Miss Dorothy Craig, sister of the bride, as maid-of -honour and Miss Lois Craig, sister of the bride and Miss Elva Willows, sister of groom, as bridesmaids. Mr. Raymond Willows, brother of the groom was best man. The music was played by Mr. Lyman Hill. The soloists were Mrs. J. R. Anderson and Mrs. B. W. Pickering. Mr. Sterling Willows, brother of the groom, and Mr. John Whyte, cousin of the bride were ushers. For the occasion the church was decorated with spirea and snapdragon. The guest pews were marked with white satin bows inserted with lily- of-the-valley. The bride chose a floor length gown of white nylon net, designed with a nylon embroidered jacket and peplum. The skirt was fashioned with tiers of net. A finger tip veil was held in place with a cornet of pearls. She carried red roses. The maid of honour wore a ballerina length gown of mayflower pink crystalette, trimmed with sequins and pearls. The bridesmaid wore identical ballerina length gowns of sea foam blue crystalette. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church hall. The young couple left on a trip to the Maritimes. For travelling, the bride wore a pale blue suit with navy and white accessories. Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Willows will reside at Boyd's. Out-of-town guest, attended from Toronto , Kingston , Ottawa , Pakenham and Carleton Place .

July 22, 1972                Knight - Packman    The marriage of Barbara Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Packman, to Mr. David Arthur Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Knight of Toronto, took place in Westboro United Church Saturday July 22,1972. Rev. Dr. C. Daniel Matheson officiated. Organist was Mrs. Karen Eisenhauer and Miss Dawn Woodside was soloist.    The bridal attendants were Miss Tina Kozub, Newcastle, maid of honor, and Miss Suzanne Cochrane and Miss Dawn Woodside, Toronto, bridesmaids. Mr. Robert Christie, Kingston, was best man and ushers were Mr. David Packman, brother of the bride, and Mr. Michael Wright.  Following a reception in the Quebec Suite, Chateau Laurier, the couple spent a honeymoon on Lake of Bays. They will reside in Toronto .

October 14, 1972    Hilliard - Lowry            Almonte Presbyterian Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, October 14, 1972 when Irene Lowry and Mervyn Hilliard were united in marriage. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. George Lowry of Almonte and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Borden Hilliard of Carleton Place. Rev. Leo Hughes of Arnprior and Rev. Douglas McQuaig of Almonte officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Mac Thom, accompanied by Miss Mildred Drummond as organist rendered the three solos “Let it Be Me., Whither Thou Goest, and O’Father All creating”. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Marilyn Kealey of Ottawa and Miss Ann Armstrong of Guelph were bridesmaids. The groom was assisted by his brother, Mr. Murray Hilliard, as groomsman and the guests were ushered by Mr. Edwin Lowry of Almonte, brother of the bride and Mr. Kealey,  Ottawa, brother-in-law of the bride. For her wedding the bride wore a floor-length empire-waisted gown of white velvet pink lace enhanced the high-collared neckline, bodice, hemline and cuffs. Her veil of nylon net tulle extending into a train was held in place by a tiara of pearl drops. She carried a cascade of pink carnations and roses with white stephanotis extending down an ivy trail.  her attendants wore identical floor-length empire-waisted gowns of royal blue velvet. The high neckline and waists were enhanced with silver trim. They carried bouquets of white and blue tipped carnations with stephanotis extending down an ivy trail.I  On their honeymoon the couple toured parts of western Ontario. For travelling the bride wore an A-line dress of red with a corsage of pale yellow carnations and roses and black accessories. The couple are now residing at R. R. # 3, Carleton Place. Out -of-town guests present at the wedding were from Ottawa , Toronto , Rolphton, Campbellford, Marmora, Trent River , Cornwall , Perth , Renfrew, Guelph and Kelowna , B.C.

Saturday, June 9, 1973             McEwen - Ventress           The marriage of Miss Glenda Marie Ventress and Mr. Douglas Arthur McEwan was solemnized on Saturday, June 9, 1973, at p.m. in Boyd’s United Church. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ventress, R. R.# 1, Carleton Place and the groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McEwan of Ottawa, Ont. Rev. K. J. Murray of Carleton Place officiated at the ceremony and  Mr. Leonard Dickinson was organist.   Mrs. Marilyn Burke of Ottawa attended the bride as matron of honour and Misses Pauline Stewart and betty McLaughlin of Ottawa as bridesmaids. Mr. Claude Lavergne of Ottawa assisted the groom and the guests were ushered by Messrs. James Burke and Gerald McEwan of Ottawa. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a full length, white jump suit enhanced by a matching hooded coat, falling into a chapel train. She carried a cascade bouquet of  white carnations centered with yellow  roses. The matron of honour wore a floor-length gown of yellow, Swiss dot, matching accessories and carried a bouquet of yellow shasta daisies. The bridesmaids wore identical floor-length gowns of mint green Swiss dot, matching accessories and carried bouquets of yellow shasta daisies. The bride's mother wore a floor-length gown of pink floral chiffon with mauve underlay, white accessories and a corsage of red and white roses. The groom's mother wore a floor-length, blue crepe gown, matching accessories and a corsage of yellow and pink roses. Following a reception at the Bayshore County Club, Ottawa, the young couple left on a wedding trip to eastern points, the bride travelling in a red and white, checked, two-piece suit, white accessories and a corsage of red and white carnations. Guests attending the wedding were from Sudbury, Pembroke, Niagara Falls and immediate area. Mr. and Mrs. McEwan are residing in Ottawa , Ont.

September 20 , 1975   Parkman - More     St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Almonte, was the scene of a very pretty wedding when Catherine Ellen More, daughter of Mr. and Mr. John More was united in marriage to Mr. Michael George Parkman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Parkman of Carleton Place. The marriage took place Saturday, September 20, 1975 at  2:00 P.M. with Reverend Douglas  McQuaig officiating. Mrs. Russell Cochrane was organist and Mr. Mae Thom was soloist. The music chosen was "Love Story” and "Bless This Marriage”. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a full length white organza gown with lace panels, full sleeves, bodice fitting tightly at waist and wrists with  flowing detachable train from  the waist. Her headpiece was matching the gown with lace and rhinestones. The bride's bouquet was of red roses and white carnations. Miss Candice More, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and wore a green Swiss-dotted floor-length gown with empire waist and carried yellow shasta daisies. The bridesmaids were Misses Judy MacDonald of Ottawa and Carol Dunlop of Almonte who wore identical yellow Swiss-dotted gowns with empire waists and carried mauve shasta daisies. Miss Sherry-Lynn More, sister of the bride, was flower-girl who wore a pink Swiss-dotted jacket dress and carried a miniature nosegay of red and white carnations. Mr. John Parkman, of Ottawa, brother of the groom, was best man and the ushers were Messrs. Douglas Ferrill and Steven More, both of Carleton Place. The bride's mother chose a dress of blue polyester with lace bodice and sleeves. She wore white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. The groom's mother chose an aqua dress of polyester and knit with white accessories and a corsage of coral roses. A wedding dinner was served at St. John's Presbyterian Church Hall, Almonte, with a reception at the Naismith   Memorial Public School , Almonte.

February 11, 1976 WILLIAMS - WRIGHT                                 The marriage of Mrs. Edith Williams of 11 Herriott St, Carleton Place and Mr. George Wright of R. R. # I Carleton Place, Ont., took place on Wednesday, February 11, 1976, in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with Rev. R. Hill officiating. Miss Linda Williams was maid-of-honour for her mother and Mr. Terry Williams, the bride's son, assisted the groom. Following the ceremony a reception, for the immediate family, was held at the bride's home. Mr. and Mrs. Wright will reside on the groom's farm at R. R. #  I Carleton Place, Ont.

Wednesday, February 11, 1976          WRIGHT - WILLIAMS - The marriage of Mrs. Edith Williams of 11 Herriott St., Carleton Place, and Mr. George Wright of R. R. # 1, Carleton Place, Ont., took place on Wednesday, February 11, 1976, in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. R. Hill officiating.   Miss Linda Williams was maid-of-honour for her mother and  Mr. Terry Williams, the bride’s son, assisted the groom. Following the ceremony a reception , for the immediate family, was held at the bride’s home. Mr. and Mrs. Wright will reside on the groom’s farm at R. R. # 1, Carleton Place, Ont. A wedding reception was held in Orange Hall here on Saturday evening October 18 in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Charles James who were married on Saturday, October 18 at 5:30 p.m. in St. Johnson Anglican Church. Rev. H. H. Brown, the Rector , officiated. We wish them many happy years together.

July 23, 1976              Lloyd - McKirdy        The wedding of Karen L. McKirdy, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McKirdy, Clayton, Ontario, to Peter E. Lloyd of Kingston, was held at the Protestant Chapel, CFB Uplands, Ottawa, July 23,1976.  The bride was attended by Dr. Mary M. Brown of Ottawa, and the best man was Captain Lorne R. McCartney of Lahr,  West Germany. Karen  and Peter are presently  residing in North Bay .

May 14, 1977     Chapman - Switzer wedding        A lovely wedding took place May 14 in Parkdale United Church, Ottawa, when Elizabeth Claudia Switzer and Douglas Robert Chapman were united in marriage. Rev. G. Black officiated at the ceremony.      The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Switzer of 317 Lincoln Avenue, Ottawa. The groom is the son of Dalton and Iva Chapman of R. R. # 2 Richmond, and a grandson of Mrs. W. H. Crawford of Carleton Place.     The church was decorated with vases of peach colored gladioli and white carnations. The bride, who was give away by her father, wore a ivory colored wedding gown  trimmed with Venetian lace and a lace-edged fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of peach colored roses decorated with satin ribbons. The matron of honor, Diane Kennedy and the bridesmaid, Janet Chapman sister of the groom) wore long sleeved gowns of polyester jersey and carried bouquets of peach colored roses and white carnations. The groom and his attendants  wore tuxedos of brown wool worsted with satin lapels and trim. The mother of the chose a full length beige skirt and a jacket of print polyester jersey. The groom's mother wore full length gown in pink polyester.The reception and wedding dinner were held at the Christian Education Building in  Carleton Place.  The young couple spent their honeymoon at the Pocono Gardens Lodge, Mount Pocono , Pennsylvania .

September 3, 1977                   Milne - Hobbs Wedding      The wedding of Kathryn Hobbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hobbs, 185 Ralph Ave, Stittsville, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Stanzell,  50  Napoleon St., Carleton Place to Gary Milne, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Milne, 2057 Vincent, Ottawa, took place in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stittsville, Saturday, Sept. 3, 1977 at 4 p.m. The bride was married by her uncle, Canon Ebert Hobbs from Cleveland Ohio who was assisted by Rev. Paul Blunt, rector of St. Thomas. The church was decorated with white gladioli and pink carnations. Pink dried flowers and white bows decorated the church pews. The wedding music was played by  Donald McGarry, a friend of the family and soloist, Mrs. Nicole Lahey sang  “The Wedding Song" and "0 Perfect Love".  Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length white chiffon gown with a chapel train. Appliqued lace trimmed the scoop neckline, cuffs and hemline. Her fingertip veil had Appliqued of matching lace. She wore a heart shaped diamond and gold necklace, a gift to her from the groom and carried a cascade bouquet of pink roses, white with pink carnations and small white mums. The matron of honor, Mrs. Carol Chandler, sister of the bride wore a mint green long gown and white picture hat. The bridesmaids, Mrs. Sue Labelle, Ottawa, and Miss Nancy McCreight, Glen Cairn, friends of the bride wore identical mint green gowns and white picture hats trimmed with pink ribbon. The attendants wore gold bracelets given to them as a gift from the bride. Their bouquets were pink roses white with pink carnations and white mums. Groomsman was Dave Labelle of Ottawa, a friend of the groom. The ushers were Paul Milne, the groom's brother and Clifford Hobbs, brother of the bride. Mrs. Hobbs, the bride's mother chose a floor length pink gown and wore a corsage of miniature  roses. Mrs. Milne, mother of the groom, wore a long gown of printed sheer over yellow and a corsage of miniature yellow roses. A wedding dinner was served in the Villa D'Este Room of the Bayshore Hotel in Ottawa. The toast to the bride was proposed by her uncle Canon Ebert Hobbs. Prior to her wedding Kathy was honored at two showers and a coffee party. Her friend Mrs. Sue Labelle held a kitchen shower with friends from the Royal Bank, Bell’s Corners. Her sister Carol Chandler, Glen Cairn, and friend  Nancy McCreight, held a miscellaneous shower and Mrs. Sterling Graham honored Kathy with a coffee party.  The young couple left for a week’s honeymoon trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls. The bride chose a three-piece red suit with black accessories for travelling. Mr. and Mrs. Milne have taken up residence in Smiths Falls.

July 14, 1978              Edwards marries            Internationally known Carleton Place paddler John Edwards has married. John tied the knot with Sue Gifford in a ceremony at the bride's hometown of Port Moody , British Columbia on July 14, The Canadian learned Monday. However, because of heavy paddling commitments, John and his bride will not be in Carleton Place until the latter part of August. John is presently in Nottingham , England on the first leg of competition in the World Paddling Championships and he will move on to Belgrade , Yugoslavia before returning to North America to compete in the Canadian Canoe Association Championships.

RINTOUL - BRYCE          St. James’ Anglican Church, Carleton Place, was the scene of the wedding of Miss Lea Bryce to Mr. Leslie Rodger Rintoul on Saturday, at 3:30 o’clock. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bryce and Mr. Rintoul is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Rintoul, all of Carleton Place. Rev. D. F. Weegar officiated at the ceremony and Miss Mabel Brown was organist. Mr. Bryce gave his daughter in marriage and she was attended by Miss Reta MacDougal of Carleton Place as maid of honor and Mr. B. D. James of Almonte was best man. The bride wore a street length sapphire blue velvet dress designed on princess lines with bracelet length sleeves. She wore a matching blue velvet hat having a shoulder length veil and carried a nosegay of white carnations. The maid of honor wore a street length sheath dress in pink wool and carried a nosegay of pink carnations and white chrysanthemums.    The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents and later the couple left on a trip to the Laurentians. They will reside at 1494 Baseline Road, Ottawa. For travelling the bride wore a pale green wool sheath dress with a white hat, a fur jacket and bronze chrysanthemums en corsage.

50 Years Ago            MARRIAGE               ROTHWELL - BOWLAND At. St. John’s Church, Boyd’s, Wednesday August 22, Miss Mabel Bowland, daughter  of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Bowland, to Mr. William Rothwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Rothwell, Lanark. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. L. G. Bruce.
