David J Camelon

The death occurred on Thursday Morning, December 18^th 1947 of Mr. David Camelon, a highly respected resident of this village. He had been in failing health for some time and only a week ago his condition became serious and he passed away quite suddenly. He was a man of fine qualities, very honorable and much thought of by a host of friends. He was the son of the late David Camelon and his wife Mary Stretch. He was born in Darling Township on the farm now owned by Mr. John A. Craig.

Mr. Camelon was in his 79^th year. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and since union was a member of the United Church. He was twice married, his first wife was Catharine McNabb who predeceased him in 1910; to this union were born five children. (Mary) Mrs. Albert Peiper of Stamford, Conn; David Camelon of Carleton Place; Wilmer was killed in Sicily in WWII; two children died in infancy. In 1917 he married Mary McIntyre who died in 1936. There are also ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. John Cox of Edmonton, Alta, survives being the only one of a family of twelve.

The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Virgin where Mr. Camelon had made his home for a number of years and interment was in the cemetery at Rosetta. Rev. H.C. Wolfraim conducted the service. There was a large number of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects to one who was held in high esteem.

Beautiful floral tributes were received which included a spray from the teacher and pupils of Clayton school and the Frost & Woods Co., Smiths Falls.

The pallbearers were two grandsons, Mac and Glenn Camelon of Carleton Place, four nephews, James A Fulton, James R Fulton and Howard Fulton of Cedar Hill and Nathan Virgin of Clayton.

Mrs. Stuart Fulton

The death occurred suddenly in Almonte on Wednesday, April 14, 1971, of Mrs. Mary Letitia Fulton. She was 69.

Born on June 3^rd, 1902 she was the daughter of the late James Twible McCann of R.R. 1, Pakenham and his late wife, Emma Needham. She received her education at Cedar Hill School, Pakenham Continuation School and Ottawa Normal. During her teaching years, she taught at Union Hall, Cedar Hill and Garson Ontario.

She was married at her home at Pakenham in 1926 to Stuart Fulton, who survives, together with a son, Hugh Fulton of Ottawa; a daughter Joan (Mrs. Robert Drysdale) of Arnprior and two grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, Hiram McCann of Pakenham and two sisters, Irene (Mrs. James Snedden) of Almonte, and Alice (Mrs. John D, Smithson), Pakenham. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edgar and Albert McCann.

Mrs. Fulton was a member of the Zion Untied Church, Cedar hill, and was an active worker in the W.M.S. and U.C.W. of Zion Church. She was superintendent of the Sunday school for many years, and was always very interested in young people. She was also an active member of Cedar Hill Women’s Institute.

The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Friday afternoon, April 16 to Zion United Church, Cedar Hill, for service at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was made at Pakenham United Cemetery. The services were conducted by the minister Rev. Harold Davies.

The pallbearers were David Donaldson, Mac Camelon, John Lawson, William Lowe, Oliver Coop and John Fulton.

Clifford Roy Ballantyne

Clifford Ballantyne, a lifelong resident of the Lanark Area passed away Wednesday July 26^th, 1972 at the GWM Hospital, Perth, following a lengthy illness. He was in his 84^th year.

Born in Lanark Township July 21, 1889, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Ballantyne.

On April 3^rd, 1918, he married Jennie May McFarlane, Lanark, who survives with their family Margaret, Mrs. Donald McEwen, Glen Tay; Herbert on the homestead, Lanark; Mary, Mrs. Robert Bate, Perth; Clifford, Kingston; twenty-three grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. One grandson Keith Ballantyne deceased. Also surviving are four sisters, Annie, Mrs. Chas. Campbell; Mary, Mrs. Robert Yuill; Gladys, Mrs. Earl Davidson; Lavina, Mrs. Ralph Tovell; two brothers William and James Pre-deceased him.

He was a life long member of St. Pauls Anglican Church serving as Warden different terms. He was keenly interested in the activities of the village and served on the School Board for fifteen years.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Canon James G. Bovington in St. Pauls Anglican Church Friday July 28^th at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wm. Stewart, Charles Darou, Stewart Woods, Lloyd Campbell, Armour Graham and William Montgomery.

The many floral offerings and donations to different societies bestowed the respect with which the deceased was held. The floral tributes were carried by the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

William Rintoul, who lived most of his life in the Clayton district, passed away in the General Hospital, Almonte, March 13^th, 1973. He was in his 85^th year and had been in failing health for a few years.

He was born October 19^th, 1888, a son of the late John Rintoul and Janet Camelon. On December 31, 1913 he was united in marriage at Middleville by the Rev. James McKay to Eva Rodger.

To this union were born two sons, John of Scotch Corners and Jim of Clayton, and four daughters, Eleanor, Mrs. Dave McIntosh, Perth; Mary, Mrs. Russell Thompson, Galbraith; Edna, Mrs. Len Miller, Iroquois, and Wilma, Mrs. Gordon McIntosh, Innisville.

He was predeceased by one brother Dave and one sister Mary, Mrs. Isaac Munro, and twins John and Jeannie, who died when a few months old. He is survived by one sister, Jean, Mrs. Alex Virgin, Clayton, also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Rintoul lived on a farm at Taylor’s Lake until 1942 when he moved to a farm near Innisville, where he lived till 1966, after which he retired to his present home, Clayton.

The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, to the Clayton United Cemetery, on March 15^th, and Rev. Gordon Smyth conducted the services. The pallbearers were six grandsons, Jerry Rintoul, Bill Rintoul, Jim McIntosh, Rodger Rintoul, Jack McIntosh and Len Thompson.

The many floral offerings, donations to different organizations and messages of sympathy received showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. Mr. Rintoul was a member of the United Church.

Kenneth Lloyd McEwen – beloved son of Don and Margaret McEwen of RR 4, Perth died instantly in a car accident near Sault Ste. Marie.

Ken attended the local public school and Perth Collegiate. After working for a short time, he enrolled at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College, Peterborough. At 21, Ken was a well-liked young man. He was working in the Nipigon Pentecostal Church along with other Bible College Students for the summer months.

The funeral was held at Glad Tidings Tabernacle where Rev. O Simpson is pastor. Former pastor Rev. Bowler led the congregation in the Hymns of Amazing Grace and Because He Lives, two favorites of Ken’s.

A girl’s trio came from Nipigon to sing a special song in tribute to ken. They were Rosaline Evans, Ruth Easton and Valerie Bosman. All three are bible college students.

Rev. H Bronsdon, president of the Bible College testified how Ken was an outstanding student amongst his classmates.

After reading of the scriptures, Rev. O Simpson preached an inspiring message which was of great comfort to the family.

The pallbearers were Ricky Blair, Ken Gill, David Moore, Kevin Chabot, Ron Rust and Bob Vernon.

He is survived by his parents, his brothers, Don, Eldorado; Gerald, Ottawa; Jack, Trenton; Hugh, Sudbury; his sisters Barbara (Mrs. D Munro), Perth; Catherine (Mrs. G Parks), Perth; Ida, Peterborough and one grandmother, Mrs. Clifford Ballantyne, Lanark. He was laid to rest at Prestonvale Cemetery

Earl Wheeler

Earl Wheeler, well-known auctioneer of this area, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 4^th, 1975, at his residence, Elphin, in his 53^rd year.

Earl Wheeler was born in Admaston, September 24^th, 1922, only child of Alex Wheeler and Mary Fulton. He farmed at Haleys Station for 4 years, then moved to Snow Road where he was engaged in farming, bush work and logging.

On June 7^th, 1944, he married Verna Dorothy Stokes, of Douglas, who survives with ten children, John of Matheson; June (Mrs. Edward Carnrite), McDonalds Corners; Vernon, Elphin; Patricia (Mrs. Victor North), Lanark; Douglas, Julia, Sylvia, Kevin, Nancy and Billie all at home. Also four grandchildren, Kevin and Wayne Carnrite, David and Mark Wheeler.

He was active in community activities, for fifteen years operator of a school bus, was popular as an auctioneer and real estate agent and a faithful member of the church.

The remains rested at the home of Mrs. William Jackson, McDonald’s Corners, conducted by Blair and Son, Perth, with Mr. Alex Headrick in charge. Funeral service was in Know Presbyterian Church, McDonald’s Corners on Wednesday, August 6, at 2 p.m., with Rev O. Forrester, pastor of the church and Rev. William Rowe of St. Catherines, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Crawford’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were four cousins, Howard Fulton, Earl Stokes, Robert Sheridan, Cameron Stokes, two neighbors Eldred Gemmill and Elmer Gemmill.

Jennie May Ballantyne

Mrs. Clifford Ballantyne, a lifetime resident of the Lanark Area, passed peacefully away at the Lanark Lodge, Perth, early Monday morning, April 24, 1978. She was in her 83^rd year.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 26^th, from the Young Funeral Home, Lanark, to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, the Rector, Rev. G S Peabody officiated.

Pallbearers were Gordon Campbell, William Montgomery, James McLaren, John McFarlane, Wilmur Barr and Armour Graham. Burial was at Pinegrove Cemetery.

Beautiful floral offerings were received and numerous contributions to organizations.

Born, may 2, 1895 in Pakenham Township near Cedar Hill, daughter of the late George McFarlane and Margaret Camelon, she moved to Rosetta in 1903 with her parents. She received her education at Rosetta Public School and Lanark Continuation School. She was a Public School teacher in a number of schools in Lanark County.

On April 3, 1918 Jennie May McFarlane married Clifford Ballantyne and they resided on the Ballantyne farm homestead near Lanark Village for a number of years, and on retiring from farming they moved to The Village to reside. Her husband passed away July 26, 1972.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters – Herbert on the Homestead near Lanark, Clifford Jr. of Kingston, Mrs. Donald McEwen (Margaret) of Perth, and Mrs. Robert Bate (Mary) of Bells Corners; a brother W H McFarlane, 17 Isabella St., Perth; also 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Two grandchildren deceased are Keith Ballantyne and Kenneth McEwen.

Mrs. Ballantyne was a member of St Paul’s Anglican Church Guild and in later years was associated with the Pine Grove and Lanark Women’s Institutes.

Camelon, Carl Robert

At the G.W.M. Hospital, Perth, Ontario on Tuesday, January 1, 1980, Carl Robert Camelon, dear son of Nellie James and the late Alex Camelon, in his 67^th year, dear brother of Bill and Gerald, both of Calabogie; John, of White; Frances (Mrs .Robert Harper), of McDonalds Corners; Gladys (Mrs. Peter Easton), of Calabogie; Margaret (Mrs. Alex McKay), Madge (Mrs. Wilfred Millotte), Mildred (Mrs. Walter Millotte), Lois (Mrs. Douglas Davidson) and Minnie (Mrs. Joe McKinnon), all of Lanark.

In hospital Almonte on Tuesday, August 12, 1980, Effie Laurena Millar, formerly of Cedar Hill, in her 85^th year, beloved wife of the late Robert Fulton and dear mother of Howard of Cedar Hill and Mrs. Melvin Hill (Margaret) of Kinburn. Predeceased by one son, James; also survived by 11 grandchildren. Resting at the Gamble and Comba Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte, from 2-4 and 7-10 Wednesday and where service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev A.C. Dodds officiating. Almonte Meeting of Camelon Clan

Lanark-July 29 –(Special) – Gemmill Park, Almonte, was the gathering place for the annual reunion of the descendants of the Camelon Clan on Sunday afternoon. The first William Camelon, coming from Scotland, arrived in this district in 1829, and settled on the Camelon Homestead on the 4^th line of Darling Township.

Melville Thomas of Kinburn, president of the Camelon Clan committee extended a welcome to the gathering who were present from Woodlawn, Kinburn, Lanark, Cedar Hill, Almonte, Clayton, Manotick, Carleton Place, Calabogie and Pakenham.

During the year, four deaths in the clan were reported; Miss Jean Camelon of Almonte; Andy Napier of Manitoba; Mrs. Weetzel (nee Mabel Fulton of Cedar Hill) at Long Island N.Y.; Mrs. Agnes Cox, the last surviving member, daughter of the late David Camelon who died at Calgary on May 14^th, aged 86 years.

Following an afternoon spend in renewing acquaintances and reminiscing, tables were arranged on the grounds in the shaded park and a buffet supper was served.

Mrs. James Ellis of Almonte, in her 85^th year, related information on the history of the Clan. The youngest child present was baby Billie Fulton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fulton of Pakenham.

The election of the clan committee resulted in Mrs. Allie McKay, RR 2, Lanark President; Melville Thomas, Kinburn past president; Stuart Fulton, Cedar Hill, Vice President; Russell Camelon, RR 3, Almonte, secretary treasurer; Mrs. Gordon Sloan, Manotick, Historian Secretary.

The clan was invited to meet next year on the fourth Sunday in July at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon, situated off highway 29, between Pakenham and Almonte.

Camelon Clan Holds Reunion

The annual reunion of the descendants of William Camelon who came from Scotland and settled in the district in 1829, was held on Sunday Afternoon at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon on highway 29 near Almonte. Over 100 were in attendance.

Stuart Fulton of Cedar Hill, president of the Camelon Clan committee, extended a welcome to the gathering who were present from Ottawa, Woodlawn, Kinburn, Cedar Hill, Clayton, Almonte and Kingston.

The president in his remarks noted a number of new acquaintances present, while it was regretted some had passed away during the last year.

The afternoon was spent on the spacious lawn renewing acquaintances and reminiscing, and in the evening tables were arranged on the grounds and a buffet supper served by the younger generation.

The chairman called on John A Craig of Calabogie and W.H. McFarlane of Perth for brief remarks. Mrs. James Ellis of Almonte, who is 88 was the oldest lady present, while Mr. McQuatt of Woodlawn, 90 years old on July 29^th was the oldest gentleman present. Also Mr. McQuatt and his wife Nellie Camelon were congratulated on recently celebrating their 60^th wedding anniversary. The 2 months old child of Mr. and Mrs. James Fulton of Cedar Hill was the youngest guest present.

Mrs. Gordon Sloan, of Manotick, Historian Secretary, gave a report of the Family Tree composed to date which was interesting and no doubt required considerable time to secure all the data.

Election of the Clan Committee for the coming year resulted in Russell Camelon, President; David McQuatt as Vice President; Secretary, Melville Thomas of Kinburn and Mrs. Gordon Sloan as Historian Secretary.

The clan will meet again next year on the fourth Sunday of July at Mr. Russell Camelon’s farm home.

Camelon Reunion Held at Antrim

The beautiful spacious lawn on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Hill, Antrim, was the setting for the annual Camelon Reunion held on Sunday afternoon last. About eighty descendants of the late David Camelon of Clayton were in attendance.

During the early part of the afternoon the gathering enjoyed reminiscing under the shady trees, meeting friends from St. Catherines, Toronto, Douglas, Admaston, Perth, Ottawa, Carleton Place, Almonte, Cedar Hill and Fitzroy Township.

At a luncheon held on the lawn, Mr. Russell Thomas, president, presided and welcomed the guests to the annual gathering. He reported on the sudden passing of Gordon Sloan of Manotick, and called for a two minutes silence.

Officers elected for the coming term were Howard Fulton of Pakenham, President; Camelon Bradley of Kinburn, Vice President; W. H. McFarlane of Perth, secretary.

Prizes were given to Mrs. Hattie Bradley, the oldest lady present; Dave Fulton of Cedar Hill, oldest Gent; and baby Kevin Camelon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Camelon of Ottawa, the youngest guest present.

It was decided to meet again next year on the forth Sunday in July, and on invitation from Mr. and Mrs. Mel Hill, the reunion will be held at Antrim.

A hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mr. and Mrs. Mel Hill for their hospitality.

Annual Gathering of Camelon Clan

Descendants of the late David Camelon, numbering over eighty, held their 15^th annual gathering of the Camelon Clan on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Camelon, Queen Street, Carleton Place.

The beautiful shaded lawn was an ideal setting for the occasion; with tables arranged for the afternoon luncheon.

Mr. Camelon Bradley, Kinburn, presided and welcomed the guests who were present from Renfrew, Calabogie, Kinburn, Woodlawn, Ottawa, Perth, Lanark, Clayton, Cedar Hill and Almonte. A two-minute silence was observed for four members of the clan deceased, namely, John Robert Bradley, Henry McQuatt, D.C. McFarlane and Donald Piper a grandson of the late David Camelon.

Prizes were awarded to the oldest members present, Mr. John A Craig, 85, Calabogie; Mrs. Hattie Bradley, 81, Kinburn; and the youngest baby, Sharon Gail Camelon, 3 ½ months, of Ottawa.

Officers elected for the coming year are: President, W.H. McFarlane, Perth; Vice President, Glenn Camelon, Carleton Place; Secretary Treasurer, Lyall Thomas, R.R. 3, Kinburn.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon, Almonte, gave and interesting talk on their recent trip to the Canadian Seed Growers Association in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Brief addresses were given by Mr. John A Craig and W.H. McFarlane.

Mr. Stuart Fulton, of Cedar Hill, on behalf of the Clan, assembled, thanked Mr. and Mrs. David Camelon and family for the hospitality and use of their home for the gathering. The reunion was invited to meet in 1966 at the farm home of Mr. David McQuatt, Woodlawn.

Camelon Reunion Held at Woodlawn

The Annual Reunion of the Camelon Clan was held on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. David McQuatt, Woodlawn, with over eighty in attendance.

Following a social gathering of the clan who were present from Smiths Falls, Perth, Lanark, Calabogie, Cedar Hill, Carleton Place, Ottawa and Kinburn area, a bounteous supper was served on the lawn. Grace was said by Mr. Stuart Fulton of Cedar Hill.

The guests were welcomed by the President, W. H. McFarlane of Perth. Four members of the Clan departed during the year, Jack Fulton of Timmins; David Camelon of Carleton Place, James Fulton of Cedar Hill; and Mrs. Thomas Montgomery, twin sister of Mrs. John A Craig of Calabogie. A brief period of silence was observed.

Election of officers resulted in Glenn Camelon of Carleton Place being elected President; Lyall Thomas, Kinburn Vice President; and Mrs. Gordon Drummond, Carleton, secretary treasurer.

The Clan was invited to meet next year at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Thomas, Smiths Falls.

The oldest Gentleman present was Mr. John A Craig of Calabogie, aged 87 years, hale and in good health. Mrs. Hattie Bradley of Kinburn, aged 83 was the oldest lady, and never misses a gathering. Baby Sherry Lynn Moore aged 3 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, R.R. 6, Carleton Place was the youngest guest.

A vote of thanks was extended to all who had prepared for the gathering, and to Mr. David McQuatt for the use of his spacious farm lawn and home.

17^th Annual Camelon Reunion

Cloudy skies and scattered showers on Sunday afternoon, July 23^rd did not hamper the attendance of the 17^th annual Camelon Reunion, which was held on the spacious lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Thomas, corner of Carthage and Queens Streets, Smiths Falls.

Descendants of the late David Camelon, numbering about ninety were in attendance. Mr. Glenn Camelon of Ottawa presided and welcomed the guests who were present from Ottawa, Woodlawn, Balderson, Kinburn, Almonte, Carleton Place, Calabogie, Brightside and Perth.

Mr. John A Craig, 88, of Calabogie was the oldest gentleman present and Mrs. Hattie Bradley, 83, of Kinburn was the oldest lady. Baby Kristine, aged nine months, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cavanaugh of Kinburn was the youngest in attendance.

Mr. Mel Thomas, whose residence is adjacent to the Rideau Locks, gave an interesting talk on the history of the locks, the operation of the same and interesting facts about the type of boats that travel up and down the Rideau through Smiths Falls, some boats coming as far away as Florida.

Tables and Chairs were provided on the lawn where all enjoyed a cafeteria luncheon. A vote of thanks was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Mel Thomas for their hospitality.

Officers elected for the coming year were Lyall Thomas, Kinburn, President; Mrs. Gordon Drummond, Carleton Place, Vice President; Mr. Mac Camelon, Carleton Place, secretary Treasurer. An invitation was received and accepted from Mrs. Alma (Craig) Campbell to hold the reunion next year at her summer cottage at Calabogie.

Camelon Reunion at Calabogie

Despite the mail strike and difficulty in publicity, the annual Camelon Reunion held on Sunday Afternoon, July 28^th, was the largest in attendance for many years. The Clan met at the beautiful summer cottage of Mrs. Mel Campbell, on Calabogie Lake.

Descendants of the late David Camelon, numbering 100, were present from all parts of the Ottawa Valley. The afternoon was sunny and the gathering enjoyed a cafeteria luncheon at tables on the lawn overlooking the lake.

Mr. John A. Craig, father of (Alma) Mrs. Mel Campbell of Renfrew, was the oldest gentleman present. He was enjoying his 89^th year. Oldest lady present was Mrs. Hattie Bradley, 84 of Kinburn. Youngest Child was baby Lori Easton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Easton, aged 22 months. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Camelon of Brightside.

Mr. Lyall Thomas, Kinburn, presided, welcoming the gathering and called on a few who spoke of those who had passed away during the past year. The chairman extended thanks to Mrs. Campbell for her hospitality, and also to those who were responsible in arranging for the event.

Officers elected for the next term are: President, Mrs. Gordon Drummond, Carleton Place; Vice President, Mac Camelon, Ottawa; secretary treasurer, Wm. Camelon, R.R. 2, Calabogie.

Camelon Reunion Held Sunday at Brightside

Descendants of the late David Camelon, numbering about 150 were in attendance at the Camelon Clan reunion held on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Camelon, Brightside. The attendance was the largest since the Clan first met nineteen years ago.

Guests were present from Ottawa, Woodlawn, Balderson,, Kinburn, Arnprior, Almonte, Carleton Place, Clayton, Calabogie, Cedar Hill, Lanark and Perth. Cloudy skies did not hamper the programme of sports for the younger group, but owing to showers, the guests had to move inside for the cafeteria luncheon.

Mr. Mac Camelon, Vice President presided and extended a welcome to all who had come great distances to attend this annual event. Owing to weather conditions he hastened to hold election of officers which resulted as follows: President, Mac Camelon, Carleton Place; Vice President, Wm. Camelon, Calabogie; secretary treasurer, James Fulton of Clayton. A two minutes silence was observed in respect of those members of the Clan who had passed away during the past year.

Mrs. Hattie Bradley, 85, of Kinburn was the oldest lady present; Mr. Dave Fulton, 82, Cedar Hill oldest gentleman; and little Lauri Easton, aged two years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Easton, Calabogie, was the youngest guest.

Mr. Stuart Fulton of Cedar Hill, on behalf of the Clan, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Alex Camelon and family for the hospitality and use of their home for the gathering. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon of Almonte invited the Clan to meet at their farm home in July, 1970.

20^th Annual Camelon Reunion

The spacious lawn of the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon, highway 29, near Almonte, was the gathering place for the 20^th Annual Reunion of the descendants of the late David Camelon. The first descendants came from Johnston, Scotland in 1841, and settled in the wilderness in Lanark County, which later became the Camelon Homestead at Tatlock in Darling Township.

Mac Camelon of Carleton Place, president of the Camelon Clan Committee extended a welcome to the gathering, who were present from Woodlawn, Kinburn, Pakenham, Calabogie, Snow Road, Cedar Hill, Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth, Balderson, Lanark, Brightside, Middleville, Kingston, Clayton, Kemptville and Ottawa.

A period of silence was observed in memory of those who had passed away during the past year. The oldest lady present was Mrs. Hattie Bradley, 86, of Kinburn; Oldest Gentleman W. H. McFarlane, 79, of Perth; and baby Allison Anderson, one month, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Anderson of Ottawa was the youngest guest present.

Mrs. Gordon Sloan of Ottawa, historian secretary gave her report on the family tree compiled to date. The book was presented to W. H. McFarlane, Perth to make further Additions.

Mr. Mel Thomas of Kemptville gave an interesting talk on a Camelon heirloom, a small Oil Lamp which carries the heritage of the Camelon Clan down through the generations. The lamp, complete with glass chimney, 129 years old, was on display, and was brought from Johnstone, Scotland to Canada in 1841 by William Camelon. The lamp was officially presented to William Camelon of Calabogie by his father Alex Camelon of Brightside, and on his death must be passed on to another William Camelon of the Clan.

President Elect Wm. Camelon on behalf of the Clan thanked Mr. and Mrs. Russell Camelon and family for the hospitality and use of their home for the reunion.

Camelon Clan Annual Reunion

The 21^st annual reunion of the descendants of William Camelon and Jennie Stuart, who came from Scotland in 1841 and settled in Lanark County in Darling Township near Tatlock, was held on Sunday afternoon, July 25, on the spacious lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Allie McKay in the village of Middleville.

Mr. Earl Wheeler, secretary, read the minutes of the last reunion and gave the financial report. A brief period of silence was observed in respect of those who had departed during the past year.

W. H. McFarlane of Perth, Historian Secretary, gave a report on the family tree and stated he had secured further material.

Camelon Clan Annual Reunion

Despite the continued heat wave and cloudy skies a fair attendance of descendants of the late William Camelon and Jennie Stuart held their twenty-second annual reunion on Sunday afternoon, July 23^rd. The event was held at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Davidson, 10^th Line, Drummond near the Lanark Balderson Road.

Mr. Earl Wheeler of Snow Road, vice-president of the Camelon Clan Committee in the absence of Mr. James Fulton, president, welcomed the gathering who were present from all parts of the area including Ottawa, Stittsville, Kinburn, Woodlawn, Pakenham and Carleton Place.

The secretary, Mrs. Robert Harper of McDonald’s Corners read the minutes of the last reunion and gave the financial report. A brief period of silence was observed in respect of those who had departed during the last year. W. H. McFarlane, historian secretary, stated additions had been made to the family tree album.

The eldest lady present was Mrs. Archie Davidson of Balderson, eldest gentlemen was W.H. McFarlane of Perth, youngest grandmother Mrs. Gerald Camelon of Calabogie, youngest child Jeffrey Thomas, eight months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyall Thomas of Stittsville.

Election of officers for the coming year are President, Earl Wheeler, Snow Road; Vice President, Mrs. Robert Harper, McDonald’s Corners; Secretary treasurer, Norman McQuatt, Woodlawn.

A heavy shower moved the guests inside the home where all enjoyed a buffet lunch. Misses Julia and Patsy Wheeler entertained the group with ducts accompanied by accordion music. Mr. Stuart Fulton, on behalf of the clan extended a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Doug Davidson for the hospitality and use of their home for the reunion. An invitation was received from Mr. and Mrs. Art Lowe, Cedar Hill, to hold the 1973 reunion at their home, which was accepted.

William Camelon Descendants hold 23^rd Annual Reunion

The 23^rd annual reunion of the descendants of William Camelon, who came from Scotland and settled in this district on the 4^th line of Darling Township in 1829 was held Sunday Afternoon, July 22^nd at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Lowe, Cedar Hill.

Earl Wheeler, president, extended a welcome to the guests assembled on the lawn. Minutes of the last reunion and financial statement were read by W.H. McFarlane of Perth.

Gifts were awarded to the oldest lady and gentlemen present, Mrs. Hattie Bradley, Kinburn, and Mr. W.H. McFarlane of Perth; the youngest guest, Wayne Carnrite, McDonalds Corners; youngest grandmother, Mrs. Russell Camelon of Almonte, and those travelling the greatest distance, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McBride of Cobden.

Officers elected were president, Mrs. Robert Harper, McDonald’s Corners; Vice President, Norman McQuatt of Woodlawn; secretary treasurer, Mrs. Mel Hill, RR 1, Kinburn.

A buffet supper was served and during the afternoon the younger group engaged in races and games. Music and songs were enjoyed by the Wheeler sisters, Patsy, Julia and Nancy of Snow Road.

A vote of thanks was extended by Howard Fulton of Pakenham on behalf of the clan to Mr. and Mrs. Art Lowe for the hospitality and use of their home for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. William Bellamy of Clayton extended an invitation to the Camelon Clan to meet at their home for the 1974 reunion to be held the forth Sunday in July.

24^th Annual Camelon Reunion is Held at Clayton

The shaded lawn of the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. William Bellamy, Clayton, on Sunday July 28^th was the meeting place for the 24^th Annual Reunion of the Descendants of the late William Camelon and Jennie Stuart who came from Scotland in 1829 and settled in Darling Township on the 4t^h line near Tatlock.

Mr. Earl Wheeler of Snow Road as Chairman, extended a welcome to those present from Ottawa, Kemptville, Kinburn, Woodlawn, Cedar Hill, Pakenham, Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth, Balderson, Lanark, Brightside, Middleville and surrounding area.

Mrs. Mel Hill, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting and gave a financial report. A brief period of silence was observed in respect of those departed since the last meeting of the clan.

W.H. McFarlane, historian secretary, reported additions had been made to the family tree album and appealed to those present to report and happenings such as births, marriages and deaths in their respective families.

Camelon Reunion

The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John S Camelon, 8^th line of Ramsay, near Almonte, was the gathering place for the Annual Reunion of the descendants of the Camelon Clan on Sunday, July 27^th.

The first William Camelon arrived in this district in 1829 and settled on the Camelon Homestead on the 4t^h line of Darling Township.

Owing to cloudy skies and rain, the attendance was down from that of former years. Mrs. Mel Hill of Antrim, vice-president of the Clan committee, extended a welcome to those present from various parts of the Ottawa valley. A brief period of silence was observed in memory of three members of the clan who had passed away during the past year, Alex Virgin of Clayton, Stuart Fulton of Pakenham and William Napier of Carleton Place.

Prizes were awarded to the oldest guests present, Mrs. Cliff Ballantyne, 80, Lanark Village and W.H. M<Farlane, 84, Perth; to the youngest child, Cheryl Lynn, 13 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Camelon, R.R. 2, Almonte; to the largest family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wheeler, Dalhousie Lake; and to Mr. and Mrs. Mel Camelon, Utica Michigan who traveled the greatest distance.

26^th Annual Camelon Reunion held in Carp

Carp Agricultural Hall was the meeting place on Sunday July 25^th for the 26^th annual reunion of the descendants of the late William Camelon and Jennie Stuart and the late David Camelon and Mary Stretch, who resided on the Camelon Homestead on the Fourth Line of Darling Township. David Camelon died in 1912, aged 83 years in the home he built on Princess Street in Lanark Village.

Mrs. Mel Hill, R.R. 1, Kinburn, president of the Camelon Clan committee welcomed the guests who were present from the surrounding area including Woodlawn, Kinburn, Pakenham, Cedar Hill, Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth Clayton, Ottawa and Kemptville.

Minutes of the last regular meeting were read by the secretary Mrs. Russell Thomas of Carp. She also gave the financial report.

The oldest lady and gentleman present were Mrs. Effie Fulton and W.H. McFarlane; youngest girl, Kelly Cavanaugh; youngest boy, Tyler Anderson; and guests travelling greatest distance, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Camelon, Utica, Michigan.

Mrs. Lloyd Irwin, President of the Clan, welcomed the guests from various parts of the Ottawa Valley, Toronto and Saskatoon.

The minutes and financial report was read by the secretary treasurer, Mrs. Mac Camelon. Two minutes silence was observed for the late Mr. John Craig, deceased since the last reunion.

An invitation was received from Mac and Pat Camelon to hold our next reunion at their home again in Huntley on the 4^th Sunday in July, 1980 was unanimously accepted. The 35^th annual Camelon reunion was held on Sunday, July 28, 1985 at the home of Russell and Doris Camelon of Almonte.

Bill Fulton, president of the Clan, welcomed the guests who were present from various parts of the Ottawa Valley, Toronto and Windsor.

Two minutes of silence was observed for the late Kathleen McPhail, Ross Camelon, Garland Bradley, Russell Barr, Bill Stuart, Annie Camelon and John S Camelon, deceased since our last reunion.

The minutes and financial report were read by the secretary-treasurer Doris Camelon.

Gifts were awarded to the following: Eldest Lady, Hattie Lafleur, Eldest Gentleman, Billie McFarlane; youngest girl, Lisa Irwin; youngest boy, Jason Irwin, to the guests coming the longest distance, Jack and Edna McQuatt of Windsor; to the largest family present, Howard and Eileen Fulton.
