MRS. ERNEST GILES

The death of Irene Marion Stewart MacGregor, beloved wife of Mr. Ernest C. Giles of Hope street, Almonte, occurred at the Almonte General Hospital, on Monday evening, August 20th, after an illness of several years' duration. She was in her 68th year. Mrs. Giles was a member of the Almonte Presbyterian Church and of the Ladies' Orange Benevolent Association, having joined in Renfrew, and later joined No. 1209, Almonte. She was devoted to her family and her home. Born in Horton Township, Renfrew County, on December 8, 1905, she was a daughter of the late William Hart MacGregor and his late wife, Mary Elizabeth Wilson. She received her education at Horton Township public school. She was married to Mr. Giles on April 24, 1929, at Arnprior, by the late Rev. E. J. Kerr. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Menzie M. of Ottawa, R. Elford and Ivan W. C., of Almonte; a daughter, Irene Mrs. Clare Rath) of Richmond, and one brother, Lawrence H. MacGregor, at home. A brother, William D. MacGregor, predeceased her in 1936. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, on Thursday afternoon, August 23, to Almonte Presbyterian Church for service at 2.30 o'clock, with burial at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Douglas C. McQuaig and Rev. Raymond Brown of Almonte Baptist Church. The L.O.B.A. held a funeral home service on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for their late sister. Pallbearers were a nephew, William Charles MacGregor, Delmer Paterson, Felix Obrey, Edwin Lowry, Edward Scott and Wilbert E. Paterson.

HARRY METCALFE

The death of Henry Robert (Harry) Metcalfe of R.R. 3, Almonte, occurred at a Kingston hospital on Thursday, November 15, 1973, following a lengthy illness. He was in his 56th year. Mr. Metcalfe farmed on the ninth line of Ramsay, and for several years he was active in the construction business. He was a member of Almonte Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 147, and a former member of the I.O.O.F. Born at Almonte on April 18, 1918, he was a son of the late Wilfred Metcalfe and Mrs. Jessie (Anderson) Metcalfe, now of Carleton Place. He received his education in Almonte and area schools. He was married to the former Ethel Rodger on April 10th, 1941. Besides his wife and his mother, he is survived by a son, Robert of Ottawa; two daughters, Rae (Mrs. Victor Fortington) and Cindy, both of Almonte, and three brothers, Wilmer of Dundas, and William and Raymond, both of R.R. 2, Almonte. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, Almonte, on Saturday afternoon, November 17, with burial at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. Raymond V. Brown of Almonte, Baptist Church conducted the funeral services. Pallbearers were George Larocque, Garnie Barr, James Gleason, Paul Leishman, Francis Naismith and John Thompson.

SNEDDEN - In hospital at Almonte, Ontario on Monday, May 12,1980, HERBERT ROSS SNEDDEN (Formerly of Appleton, Ontario) beloved husband of Jean Fumerton; son of the late Mansfield Snedden and Agnes Barker Coxford, in his 78 year. Rested at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, Ontario. Service in the Chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.
LORNA MARY REID

The death of Mrs. Lorna Mary (Scotty) (Hawkins) Reid, wife of Mr. James A. Reid, 272 Adelaide Street, Almonte, occurred suddenly at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on Thursday, December 18, 1975, in her 46th year. Mrs. Reid had been employed as a twister operator at Zephyr Textiles. She was a member of Paul's Anglican Church and of Ladies' Auxiliary of Branch 240, Royal Canadian Legion, Almonte. She was a very active member of the Lanark New Democratic Party. Born in Almonte on April 10, 1930, she was a daughter of the late C. H. Hawkins and his wife, Mary Ann McDougall. On November 4, 1950, she was married at Almonte to James A. Reid. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Wayne, Allan and Thomas, all of Almonte; two daughters, Wendy, Mrs. Wayne Wark, Lanark, and Mary Ann, Mrs. Stephen Brydges, Almonte; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Hawkins, of Toronto; and four sisters, Mrs. Vera Blondell; Mrs. Hazel Kelly, Mississauga, Ont.; Mrs. Marg. Holden, Weston, Ont., and Mrs. Marilyn Lucas, Carleton Place. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, with interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. G. F. Bickley of St. Paul's Church conducted the services. Pallbearers were Stephen Brydges, Wayne Wark, Fred Kelly, Gordon Rattray, Helmut Lucas and Ben Blondell. A very impressive Legion service was conducted at the funeral home on Friday evening, Dec. 19, with many of her fellow comrades in attendance. The vast number of floral tributes and other expressions of sympathy bore witness to the high esteem in which Scotty's friends and neighbors held her.

GEORGE COX

The funeral of George Arthur Cox of Carleton Place took place October 31 from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Avenue, to St. James Anglican Church where Rev. F. A. McGregor conducted the service. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. Mr. Cox died suddenly at his residence, 252 Moffatt Street on October 28, 1973, result of a heart seizure. He was 84 years of age. He was born at Carleton Place on September 1, 1889, son of the late William Henry Cox and his wife, Eliza Griffith. He had been a stationary engineer at Ottawa for years, and at Carleton Place attended St. James Church. He was married to the former Ada W. Valley on December 31, 1946, at Port Arthur. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William George Charles Cox of Belleville and a brother, Andrew Orville Cox of Toronto. The pallbearers were Howard McNeely, Orton Hobbs, Ray Bethune, George Gomme, Staunton Stanzel and a great grandson, Ronald Cox. The honorary bearers were George H. Doucett, Earl Fleming and Roy Griffith.

CAMERON - Accidentally on Friday, March 71 1980, William Garth Cameron. In his 22nd year. Beloved son of Walter Cameron and Elizabeth Trombley; dear brother of Sherry and Wanda both of Ottawa. Rested at the Kerry Funeral Home, 61 Lake Avenue West, Carleton Place. Service in the funeral home on Monday, at 2 p.m. Interment McDonald's Corners Cemetery.

Two Killed In Crashes Near Carp

Two persons were killed on Regional Road 5, near Carp, in two separate accidents within minutes of each other last Saturday afternoon. David Lackey, 31, of Orchard Road, Stittsville, was killed about 5 p.m. when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a dump truck. David Humphries, 58, of Woodlawn, was killed instantly when his car rolled over into a ditch. Ottawa OPP said Mr. Lackey struck a truck driven by John Brophey of R.R. 2, Richmond, at the Richardson Side Road.

LLOYD BARR

The death of Mr. Lloyd Barr of Clayton occurred at the Almonte General Hospital on Sunday, July 8, 1973, in his 80th year. Mr. Barr farmed for years in the Hall's Mills district where he was born July 13, 1894, a son of the late David Barr and his wife, Grace Khull. Mr. Barr was caretaker of Clayton cemetery. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. For a time during the thirties he operated a taxi in Almonte. Mr. Barr was predeceased by his wife, the former Catherine Command, whom he married in 1924. Surviving are a daughter, Pearl (Mrs. James McKay), Almonte, a brother, Alfred of Almonte, and a sister, Bella (Mrs. Harry McGee). Clayton. He was predeceased by brothers Peter, John, David, Wilfred, Ross and Kenneth, and a sister Mara. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church St., Almonte, on Tuesday afternoon, July 10, with burial at Clayton United Cemetery. Rev. Gordon Smyth conducted the services.

MacGREGOR, Earl Thomas - Suddenly at his residence, R.R. #2, Jasper, Ontario, on Friday, December 21, 1979, Earl Thomas MacGregor; beloved son of Isabel Reynolds and Ray MacGregor, beloved husband of Kathleen McCabe; dear father of Michael and Cindy at home, dear brother of Joyce (Mrs. Donald McRae), R.R. #1 Carleton Place; Janet (Mrs. John Kerry), Carleton Place; Murray, R.R #2 Carleton Place; Ross, R.R. #2 Carp ; Glenn, Carleton Place; loving grandson of Mrs. Sadie Griffin, Perth, Ontario, dear son-in-law of Clara McCabe. JOHN LEDGERWOOD

Mr. John Ledgerwood, R.R, 3, Arnprior, passed away in the A. and D. Memorial Hospital, June 25, at the age of 89. Born in Westmeath Township, where he was educated, he lived in White Lake for a number of years. He worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1959. He attended the White Lake United (no more).

OBITUARY

ROBERT YUILL - The death of Robert Yuill of Clayton occurred on Sunday, February 24, 1974, at the Almonte General Hospital. He was in his 83rd year. Born in Lanark Township on October 26th, 1891, he was the third son of the late William Yuill and his wife, Robena Somerville. In 1920 he was united in marriage to Mary J. Ballantyne, who survives, with a family of four sons and one daughter: Guy B. Of Almonte R.R. 1, Ralph B. of Clayton, Lois A., of Ottawa, Ronald S., of R.R. 1 Almonte and Elmer C., of Clayton R.R.2. A brother James of R.R. 2 Almonte, and sister, Jean (Mrs. Chas. Munro), of Lanark, also survive along with 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brother and three sisters: John, who died in infancy, Alex, William and Arthur, Agnes (Mrs. Archie Robertson), Margaret (Mrs. Robt. Munro), and Ruby (Mrs. Lloyd Prettie). The funeral was held from Young's Funeral Home, Lanark on Tuesday, February 26, to the vault in Clayton for interment in the Clayton United Cemetery. Messrs. Maurice Close and Leslie Beddoe conducted the service. The pallbearers were Earl Robertson, Lloyd Prettie, Arthur Munro, Edwin McKirdy, Allan McKay and Archie Barr, and the flowers were carried by four grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Brian, Arnold, Keith, Claire Yuill and Lloyd Eady.

LATE ERNEST FOSTER

Following an illness Of two and a half years, Mr. Ernest Foster of Clayton passed away at the Almonte General Hospital on Monday, July 2nd, 1973. He was 81. Mr. Foster was a retired farm and was born at Galbraith, on April 29th 1892, a son of the late James Foster and his wife, Grace Scoular. He received his schooling at Galbraith School. He was married to the former Jeanie Della Price, at the bride's home at Galbraith, on September 15th, 1915. Surviving besides his wife, are five sons and a daughter, James Boyd, Carleton Place; Eric E., Alvintson. Ont.; Melvin L., M. Carl, and Elmer R., of Almonte, and Edna Jean, Mrs. Guy Yuill, Almonte. One brother, Thomas Foster, of Almonte, and sisters, Rebecca, Mrs. Harold Munro of Clayton, Margaret, Mrs. Gilbert Munro, and Jessie, Mrs. John H. Munro, Almonte, also survive. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church street Almonte, on Thursday afternoon, July 5, at 2.30 p.m., with interment at the United Cemetery, Clayton., Messrs. George Paige and Leslie Beddoe conducted the funeral services. Pallbearers were former neighbours, Nathan Virgin, John G. Rintoul, James Foster, Lauchlin Watt, Edwin McKirdy and Allan McKay.

ARNOLD C. GILMOUR

The death of Arnold C. Gilmour, of 34 Malcolm Street, Almonte, Ontario, occurred suddenly in the Almonte General Hospital on July 16th, 1975. He was in his 47th year. The youngest son of the late Charlotte Langstaff and Gavin Gilmour, he was born in Almonte on November 26th, 1928. A member of the United Church of Canada, he was educated in the Public and High Schools in Almonte. He was married to Marilyn Houston on September 16th, 1950. Mr. Gilmour is survived by one daughter, Andrea and two sons, David and Angus, all at home. Also surviving are three brothers, Maurice (Lancaster); Lloyd (Niagara Falls) and Howard (Toronto) and two sisters, Muriel (Mrs. Wilf Lindsay) Almonte and Kay (Mrs. Norman Hogg, Ottawa). Predeceased by a brother, Wilfred. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, Almonte, July 17th, 1975 with burial at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. D. C. McQuaig officiated. Pallbearers were Steven Gilmour, Paul Gilmour, Ronald Lindsay, Allan Timmins, Gordon Clifford and Ronald Robertson.

KEITH FOSTER

The death of Keith Melvin Foster of 80 Linwood Street, St. Catharines, occurred on Saturday, September 6th, 1975, at his residence. He was in his 31st year. Born in Almonte on September 18th, 1944, he was the son of Melvin Foster and Olive Bolger of Almonte, who survive him. Keith was educated locally at S.S.#9 and at Almonte High School. He worked at General Motors in St. Catharines and attended the United Church there as well. He is survived by his parents; by sisters Marion, (Mrs. Peter Ireland) of Queenston; Shirley, (Mrs. Robert Yach) of Munster; and by brother Glen at home. Also surviving are nephews Christopher and Terry Ireland and one niece Julie Yach. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Thursday, September 11th at 2 o'clock with interment in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev. Robt. J. McCrea officiating. Pallbearers were Raymond Clement, Michael Gleeson, Brian McGregor, Jimmy Foster, Earl Foster and Brian Bolger.

Henry (Harry) Simpson McArton, dear son of the late James McArton and the late Sara Jane Simpson. Dear brother of Joanne (Annie) (Mrs. John Lowe). Predeceased by one sister Mable (Mrs. R. T. Pierce). Also survived by nieces and nephews.
