RATH, Wilfred Herbert - Mr. Wilfred Herbert, age 55 years, a resident of 399 North High Street, passed away in a Thunder Bay hospital, December 6th, 1988. Born December 9th, 1932 in Almonte, Ontario, he was an adherent of St. Paul's Church and had formerly worked with Allstate Insurance. He was President and General Manager of Norcel Insulation & Superior Appraisals. Surviving are his wife Alline (nee McCormack), sons, Ron, Toronto, Tim, Vancouver, BC daughters Vanda, Thunder Bay and Leslie Anne Vancouver, BC, brothers James and Clare, Richmond, Ontario, Elmer, White Lake, Ontario, Raymond, Dewinton, Alberta, Charles, Clayton, Ontario, sisters, Anne (Mrs. Robert Timmons), Richmond, Ontario, Elaine (Mrs. John Fulton), Pakenham, Ontario, Mary (Mrs. Forlippa), North Bay, Ontario, grandson Dennis Laurie Rath, Thunder Bay, many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his father James Herbert and mother Laura Myrtle (nee Paul). MAUDE EMILY MILLER

The death of Maude Emily Miller (nee Payne) of R.R.#2, Almonte, occurred on Thursday, September 11th, 1975, at Carleton Place Memorial Hospital. She was in her 85th year. Mrs. Miller, born in London, England, on February 16, 1891, was the daughter of the late William Payne and the late Emily Woollven. She came to Canada in 1900, where she was educated in Clayton. She attended Zion Memorial and Boyd's United Churches. She married James L. Miller in Clayton, Ontario, August 30th, 1911. Mr. Miller predeceased her. Surviving is one son, Robert J. Miller of Almonte; and daughters E. Jean (Mrs. W. A. Van Sickle) Toronto; and Irene E. (Mrs. J. F. Leeson), also of Toronto. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home on Sunday, September 14th, at 2 o'clock with burial at Clayton United Church Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Murray officiated and was assisted by Mr. Robert Bowker. Pallbearers were Lawrence Code, Russell Code, John R. Miller, William Bellamy, Earl Sweeney and Gordon Donaldson.

MRS. CARRIE KING

Mrs. Carrie King, a life-long Lanark County resident, passed away suddenly but peacefully on February 26, 1977, at the Lanark Lodge, Perth, in her 84th year. Carrie (Lee) was the daughter of the late William Lee and Adeline Munro. She married the late William J. King, who was also a well-known resident of Lanark County. Mrs. King is survived by her only daughter, Addie (Mrs. Randolph Elliott) of Almonte and predeceased by her son Albert. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A life-time resident of Lanark County, Carrie was born in 1893 at Tatlock where she received her education and became a member of the United Church. She and her husband spent most of their married life farming in that community. Later she spent many years in Lanark where she worked for some time in the Glenayr Mill. Before becoming a resident of the Lanark Lodge, Carrie lived for several years with her son, Albert, in Lanark and later with her daughter Addie in Almonte. Her five years spent at Lanark Lodge were happy and active ones. Carrie acquired a great interest and talent for painting and will be lovingly remembered by the many recipients of her work. In her home at the Lodge, she had many friends among the staff and residents for whom she had great affection. The funeral was held on Monday, February 28, at the Young Funeral Home in Lanark. The service was conducted by Rev. Ron Reid of the Pentecostal Church in Perth. Interment will be in the spring at the United Cemetery in Clayton. Carrie will be greatly missed by many friends both young and old. She was most understanding with younger people and was known as "Grandma" to many young folk. Known for her kindness and generosity, Carrie will be long remembered by relatives and friends alike.

MRS. CATHERINE COCHRAN

On February 13, 1976, Catherine Helena Forsythe (Kate) beloved wife of the late Alex Cochran, passed away at Lanark Lodge, Perth, Ontario. She was the last surviving member of a family of six. Born in Blakeney on March 5, 1889, she was the daughter of the late William James Forsythe and his wife Esther Hall Coxford. She attended the local school at Blakeney. Most of her married life was spent on the seventh line of Ramsay where her husband farmed until his death thirteen years ago. She was a member of Almonte Presbyterian Church, a life member of the W.M.S. and Ramsay W.I. Mrs. Cochran is survived by six children, Mrs. Malcolm Stewart (Jean), Mrs. Ken Duncan (Helen), and Russell, all of Almonte; Mrs. Gordon Donaldson (Margaret) Pakenham, Mrs. Mary MacKenzie of Toronto, and Mrs. Ralph Milne (Amy) of Oakville. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, February 15 at 2 p.m. to the Auld Kirk cemetery, Rev. Douglas C. McQuaig officiated. The pallbearers were Ian Barker, Robert Barker, Claude Cochran, Jimmie Cochran, George McKay and John Steele. Affectionately called "Katie" at the Lodge she will long be remembered for her very keen sense of humour which brightened the day for many.

WALTER WELLAND McMUNN

The sudden death of Walter Welland McMunn occurred at his home, 84 Arthur street, Arnprior on Thursday, August 22, 1974. He was 58. Born at Clayton on March 12, 1916, he was a son of the late Welland McMunn and his wife Edna Scott. On March 23, 1946, he was married at Toronto Ontario, to the former Dorothy Murphy, who survives. Also surviving are one son David, of Arnprior; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Clouthier, Arnprior, and Susan, of Toronto. One brother Edward (Ted) McMunn is predeceased. Mr. McMunn was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas from 1940 to 1945 with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. He was employed as a plant mechanic with the National Research Council for 28 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, Arnprior, and was an ardent bowler, playing in the town mixed bowling league for 25 years. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, Almonte, at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26, with burial at Pakenham Union Cemetery. Rev. J. Allan D. Meakin of Emmanuel Church, conducted the services. Pallbearers were Brent Price, Felix Borutski, Clifford Lebrun, Roy McCooye, Harold Authors and Ron McMunn.

JOHN R. McINTOSH

Funeral service for the late John Russell McIntosh, one of Almonte's older citizens, was held at the Almonte United Church on Thursday, October 2nd, at 2 p.m., with burial made at the United Cemetery, Clayton. Rev. E. C. Brown of the Central Lanark Charge, officiated at the services. Mr. McIntosh passed away at the Almonte General Hospital on Monday, September 29, after a short illness of five days' duration, and at the advanced age of 91 years and 11 months. John McIntosh was active in all aspects of community life from when he played Lacrosse as a teenager until over eighty when he was President of the Almonte Senior Citizens Club. He was a member of Guthrie United Church, Clayton, for over fifty years and served in the offices of secretary treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent and on the Board of Stewards. For many years he was a member of L.O.L. 1367 and was a Past District Master of Carleton District. For six years he was a member of Ramsay Council. A son of John McIntosh and his wife, Mary Watt, he was born at Poland in Dalhousie Township on October 22, 1877, and attended school at Poland and Ladore public schools. He moved to Ramsay Township near Clayton when he was eight years of age, and attended Clayton public school. As a young man, he went to the shanties in the winter. He went west on several harvest excursions and spent at least one winter in Southern Manitoba. Mr. McIntosh farmed at Clayton until he retired to live in Almonte about 1952. He was married to the former Sarah Rath at Boyd's Settlement on June 15, 1904. Following the death of his wife in 1966 he made his home with members of his family. He entered hospital for a check-up on Thursday and died peacefully in his sleep on Monday evening. He is survived my five sons and three daughters, namely; David of Clayton; Mrs. R. Ramsbottom (Ethel), Lanark; Alex. of Brantford; Mrs. James Reid (Lillian) Carleton Place; William, London; Russell of Almonte; Mrs. Warren Craig (Margaret), Almonte, and Gordon of Innisville. A son, James Duncan, was killed in World War 2 in 1944. Pallbearers at the funeral were five grandsons, Edward Ramsbottom, Philip Craig, Fred, Stuart and Bob McIntosh, and Wilfred Larocque.
