2006-01-24 - Catherine Niven McLean nee: Forbes of Kenora

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother, Catherine Niven (Kate) McLean.

Kate passed away at Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Tuesday, January 24, 2006. She was in her 102nd year.

Kate was born on Beaton s Island off of the First West Bay mainland, April 18, 1904 in Keewatin, the eldest child of John and Isabella Forbes who came from Aberdeen, Scotland at the turn of the century. She loved Keewatin, having spent her first 89 years in her own home before moving to Pinecrest Home for the next 13 years which she enjoyed immensely. Having been born into a close knit family, all of her brothers and sisters settled in Keewatin also. They were all very proud of their Scottish heritage. Being the last living member, her passing marks the end of an era for the Forbes family.

Kate was predeceased by Bill, her devoted husband, her parents John and Isabella, sisters Grace McLay, (Wuggs), Bess Contini (Louis), brothers Jock Forbes (Myrtle), James Forbes (Florence) and Bill Forbes (Mary).

To mourn her loss, Mom leaves her sons, Bill McLean (Sofina), Dan McLean (Evelyn) Guelph, Ontario and Rod McLean (the late Hazel) Dryden, Ontario.

Also left to mourn her passing are Grandchildren Sharon Eisler (Kevin), Douglas McLean, Robin McLean (Alethea), Daniel McLean Jr., Patricia Firth (Mike), Phyllis Stinson, and Kailey Divers (James); Great Grandchildren Dylan Spencer (Tanya), Kyle Spencer (Holly), Angela (Tom), Dan Eisler, Victoria Stinson, David Divers, Drew McLean, David Eisler (Stacey), Robyn McLean, Rebecca Stinson, Andrew Divers, and Great Great Grandchild Gabe Spencer.

It takes a special type of person to provide the outstanding care delivered to Mom throughout a most trying time.

Those employees at Pinecrest Home for the Aged who so generously offered and provided her with care, regardless of their
capacity, are to be commended for their compassion, understanding and professionalism.

The pallbearers will be Dylan Spencer, Kyle Spencer, David Eisler, Robin McLean, John Contini and Scott Forbes.
Interment will be in the Lake of the Woods Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2006.

A Service in Celebration of Kate s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m.

on Friday, January 27, 2006 at Pinecrest Home for the Aged, 1220 Valley Drive, Kenora with Reverend Robert Wittmeier officiating.

In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, a donation to the Pinecrest Auxiliary, or a charity of your choice would be
appreciated.
