MEAFORD EXPRESS (1922) -- Word was received here on Saturday morning of the death of A.C. Todd, of Edmonton, a former business man and respected resident in Meaford for many years. Death was the result of a paralytic stroke and the news received with genuine regret by a host of warm friends here. Only last summer he visited his old personal and fraternal friends in Meaford.
   Born in Aurora, he came to Meaford as a young man and carried on a successful tanning business for over thirty years. Coupled with his tannery he had just nicely started the manufacture of shoe packs and larrigans, when his entire plant was washed away during the spring freshets here in 1912. Being forced out of business by the flood, Mr. Todd entertained inducements to commence operations again in Edmonton, Alta. Investing his money in business in the West did not prove the success he hoped for and he suffered heavy loss and ultimate failure, owing to inadequate facilities and other unforeseen causes.
   The late Mr. Todd took a deep interest in politics, municipal affairs and Lodge work while a resident here and he was well known to every man, woman and child in this district. He was a true Britisher and as a member of the Public School Board took great pride in inculcating a lasting patriotism in the minds of the scholars and young people. He was generous, warm hearted and a good supporter of clean sport.
   At the time of his death, deceased was in his 72nd year, and resided with his son-in-law, Mr. F.S. McCall, Principal of Alberta College. He was a member of the Masonic Order and an Orangeman. His wife predeceased him shortly after going west. He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Samuel, of Toronto; Fred, of Bakersfield, Cal., and Mrs. F.S.
