DIES AT MEAFORD
MEAFORD EXPRESS (1953) -- Following a period of ill health, Edgar E. Taylor, prominent St. Vincent Township farmer, passed away at his home on Marshall St. in Meaford where he had resided since retirement.
He was born 76 years ago on his farm located on the 4th line of St. Vincent Township. This farm was the Taylor homestead and was chopped from virgin forests by his father and grandfather.
Eight years ago due to ill health he sold his farm and moved to Meaford. He is survived by his wife the former Ellen Pottage and a daughter Grace, Mrs. Earl Gillespie of Toronto, and one son, Douglas of Vancouver. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. J.A. Abercrombie and Mrs. Robert Rogers, both of Vancouver.
Mr. Taylor was a member of Mt. Zion United Church while he resided in the country. A devout Orangeman he was an honorary member of the Griersville L.O.L. Which he joined years ago.
The funeral service was held in Meaford United Church and was conducted by the Rev. O.W. Holmes, his former pastor at Mt. Zion, assisted by Rev. Gordon Lapp. A wide circle of relatives, friends and neighbours attended. The service at Lakeview Cemetery Chapel was under the auspices of the Griersville L.O.L. No. 76.
A large number of Orangeman from the surrounding district were present to pay their respects. An Orange service was conducted by Robert Ferguson of Thornbury, Past Provincial Lecturer of Ontario West.
Interment was made in Lakeview Cemetery Chapel, Meaford.
