MR. W.J. ROBINSON
PASSED SATURDAY
Deceased Was Prominent in Meaford
And Vicinity - Was 73 Years Old
MEAFORD, June 27 -- There passed away on Saturday morning one of the most esteemed residents of the town of Meaford in the person of Mr. William J. Robinson, at his late home on Union street. The late Mr. Robinson had been seriously ill for the past six weeks having suffered from a heart attack, and previously to then had not been in the best of health since Christmas.
He was born in Meaford in the year 1859, and was a son of the late Mathew Robinson. Deceased had been in the insurance business practically his entire life and was one of the most well known men in the district. He took a greater interest in the affairs of the town and was always a willing helper, to those who were in need. In his earlier years he was connected with baseball activities, as well as lacrosse, and during the past few years seldom missed a game. Only last fall he accompanied the Meaford team to Barrie to see the playoffs.
Mr. Robinson will be sadly missed in political circles as well, being a staunch Liberal, and on of the best organizers in the province, having charge of the committee rooms in past years. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and was in his 73rd year.
During the summer months he stayed at his summer home in Kent and during the winter and fall months, occupied the flat over W.W. Stephen's drug store, on Trowbridge street. He and his wife had only been at this summer home for a few weeks when he passed away.
The late Mr. Robinson was married to Miss Sadie Boyle 15 years ago, who is left to survive as well as two daughters to his first wife, Miss Cassie Oliver, who predeceased him many years ago. The daughters are Mrs. James Dennis, Toronto, and Mrs. Madeline Daley, Toronto.
There is also one brother living, Bernard of Detroit, Mich. who at the present time is ill, and not able to attend the funeral. There is one grandson, Ellsworth Dennis, of Toronto.
The funeral service was held on Monday morning at 9 a.m., in the Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Father McNulty of Owen Sound sang requiem high mass and Father Lynch gave the sermon. The remains were laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery.
