MEAFORD EXPRESS (1956) - Emma Jane Read, wife of the late John T. Adams, passed away suddenly at the Meaford General Hospital on Saturday evening, September 15th.
A daughter of the late Stephen and Jane Read, Mrs. Adams was in her 81st year. She was married on March 12, 1901, her husband predeceasing her in 1954. She had lived on the Eleventh line, north and seventh line south, before moving to Meaford six years ago.
Surviving are one son, George, Meaford, and a sister, Margaret, Mrs. William C. Read, of Stony Beach, Sask. A son, Stephen, died in infancy and a brother, William Read, and two sisters, Eliza Read and Annie, Mrs. Levi Bumstead, have also passed away.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. A.K. Morphy of Christ Church, Anglican, of which Mrs. Adams was a member, at the Gardiner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, September 19th, Interment was in Duxbury Cemetery.
