Alpheus O'Neill Dies;
Fruit, Poultry Farmer
GASPORT -- A prominent fruit grower and poultry farmer Alpheus O'Neill, 79, Ridge Road, Hartland, died this morning (Jan. 9, 1962) at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Buffalo after a short illness.
   Mr. O'Neill was born in Canada, Feb. 4, 1882, the son of a Baptist minister Jonathan O'Neill and Elizabeth Ann (Redford) O'Neill. He lived in this area for the past 42 years.
   An active member of the Hartland Methodist Church, he was a past chairman of its Board of Finance and at the time of his death was a trustee.
   He was a member of the Gasport Masonic Lodge 787 and served as master in 1932. He was also a past commander of the Gasport American Legion Post, having served in the armed forces in World War I.
   Mr. O'Neill was past chairman of the Poultry Commodity Committee of the Niagara County Extension Service; and a past director of the Niagara County Farm Bureau. He was chairman for the past two years at the Farm and Home Days. He was a past chairman of the Niagara County Tree Growers Assn. and a past director of the New York State Cherry Growers Assn. Mr. O'Neill was also the past president and a past director of the Hartland Conservation Club. He served as a delegate to the National Farm federation in Chicago.
   He was married Dec. 15, 1919, to the former Ethel Wilson, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roger Foote of Barker; two sons, John of Coral Gables, Fla. and Paul of Gasport; a sister, Miss Gertrude O'Neill of Pittston, Pa.; a brother, John W. O'Neill of Palo Alto, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
   Friends may call at his late home beginning tomorrow at 2 p.m. where funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Norman Douglas will officiate.
   Gasport Masonic Lodge 787 will hold a Masonic service at the home at 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.
   Arrangements are being made by the Bream Funeral Home, Gasport.
