Tribute As Outlined on the
Grey County GenWeb:
June 23, 2006 : A SPECIAL TRIBUTE goes out to JOPIE LOUGHEAD :
A tireless volunteer who has given many years of her life to the advancement of genealogy in the Grey County area.
1) When I keyed "Jopie Loughead" into the National Library's search site, 13 matches showed up that Jopie either authored or co-authored : cemeteries, plus BMD from area newspapers.
2) There's a four volume set of BMD data available from the OGS or your library that summarizes all the BMD data - including weddings & anniversaries - from the Thornbury Review Herald newspaper 1918-1960. It is a perfect example of the way all newspapers should be transcribed in that a really tough job of searching has now been made very easy.
3) In the CAN-ONT-GREY Mailing List, there's over 570 emails where Jopie's name comes up (& that's not including SIMCOE County or others) and a lot of those include at least a dozen BMD transcriptions. Much time was spent to help countless people now and in the future find their relatives.
4) Jopie's been available to answer queries on the RAOGK list
5) When I did a google search for Jopie, there were 1170 results. If everyone contributed to their respective counties as much as Jopie has, there would be nothing left to do - it would all be done.
The problem is that illness has now caught up to Jopie and she has to retire from volunteering. I've never met her, but I'm going to miss her. Many, many thanks for everything you have done, Jopie. Wishing you nothing but the best. Gerald Dunnill
July 8, 2006 : Received word from Korleen Halbert about Jopie's passing. Jopie Loughead's obituary can be found at the Fawcett Funeral Homes' web site in Collingwood Ontario.
