DEATH OF ROBERT HILL
MEAFORD EXPRESS (1916) - The death of Robert H. Hill, which occurred on Thursday, March 16th, at his home on St. Vincent street, removes another of Meaford's oldest and respected residents. Mr. Hill has been ill since the New Year, death being due to dropsy of the heart. Deceased was in his 80th year, was born in Devonshire, near Exeter, England, in 1836. Coming to Canada in the spring of 1856 and spending one year in Bellville, he came to Meaford in 1857. He was one of Meaford's oldest builders and contractors. In 1858 he married Mary, daughter of John Pratt, of Innisfil. He is survived by his widow and eight children, five boys and three girls: John, Seattle, Wash.; George, Sodus, N.Y.; James, Gladstone, Minnesota; Wm. B., in Toronto; Mrs. Harry Versprella, Rochester, N.Y. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, including Millie, who has always lived with them, and four great grandchildren. He was a staunch Conservative, but of a quiet retiring disposition, but a firm friend. Rev. J...............remainder is missing.
