Up of Grey County
MEAFORD, Nov. 18, 1925 - Mrs. Frances Eaton, Meaford's oldest resident, died at noon yesterday at the good old age of 98 years and five months, retaining consciousness and the use of all her faculties until the last. The deceased had not been feeling well for some time and was confined to her bed about thirteen weeks. Her illness was not due to any organic trouble, but simply to old age.
Mrs. Eaton had been a member of the Methodist Church since girlhood and during the many years she lived in Euphrasia and even after coming to Meaford 40 years ago, her home was always a place of welcome to the preachers of the Methodist ministry; in fact the Eaton home was hardly ever without a visitor or two and those of them who are living today look back with fond remembrances of the hospitality shown them by Mr. and Mrs. Eaton.
When her husband died she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Beckett, and has made her home with them ever since. Her family consisted of 12 children, 10 sons and 2 daughters, two of whom died in infancy and three in later years. Those living are; William, of Toronto; Marshal, of Conadaga, N.Y. State; Wyndham, of Buffalo; Robert T., of Chicago; Richard M., of Niagara Falls; John F., of the 9th line, St. Vincent; and Mrs. M. Beckett, of Meaford. Mrs. Eaton has 35 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She and her husband celebrated their golden wedding 23 years ago and their diamond wedding 14 years ago.
