MEAFORD EXPRESS (1916) - The death of Mr. Jas. W. Bridgett at his home in Toronto on Monday morning, came as a severe shock to his many Meaford friends. Deceased had been ailing since July 1st and contracted pneumonia early last week and his wife who had been camping on Lakeside Ave., was hurriedly called home. His condition failed to show improvement and he gradually sank until death claimed him as a victim early Monday morning.
   The late Mr. Bridgett was well and favorably known here as he conducted a successful tailoring and gentleman's furnishing store here for many years, leaving eight years ago to take charge of a branch of the Slater Shoe Co., in Hamilton. Subsequently, he moved to West Toronto and entered business for himself. While in town he took an active interest in affairs generally, having served in the Town Council as well as being a promoter of athletics of all kinds. He possessed a very genial disposition and was a friend to all alike and his sudden demise is deeply regretted. Deceased was in the 48th year of his age and is survived by a wife and four children, the eldest of whom is serving at the front somewhere in France.
   The remains were brought to Meaford on Tuesday evening and the funeral was held from the residence of his father-in-law, Mr. E. Sewell, yesterday afternoon to Meaford Cemetery and was largely attended. The Masonic Order attended in a body out of respect for their departed brother.
