JOHNSTON

April 15,p.1:Robert James Johnston - After suffering for nearly a week from injuries received in a runaway, Robert James Johnston died on Wednesday at the home of his brother, who died less than a fortnight ago and to whose funeral Robert Johnston had been called from Cockburn Island. His death is very sad. He came down from Cockburn Island to attend the funeral of his brother, Samuel Johnston, of the South Diagonal, Keppel, who had been ill for some time. The funeral took place on Wednesday of last week. A week later Robert Johnston, too, was dead. Last Friday he had been visiting with his sister, Mrs. J.D. McMillan, Ben Allen. In the evening h e was returning to the Johnston homestead where his brother Samuel had resided. He was coming down the steep little gradient near Hindman's farm going out towards Jones Fall. As h e did so, the horse, a young colt, took fright at something and dashed madly down hill. The buggy swerved going up on the concrete culvert at the bottom of the hill and the driver was thrown out on the wheel and railing of the culvert. He was badly hurt. A number of ribs were smashed as was his right shoulder. In addition he suffered internal hurts, the severity of which could not be ascertained. Dr. Brewster dressed the injuries and for a time good hopes were entertained for his recovery, but he had been too seriously hurt and the end came on on Wednesday. Robert Johnston was known in Keppel He had for some years been in the timber business with his brothers, and all were widely known. Several years ago he went to Cockburn Island where he had been following the timber. He was forty-one years of age, and was a son of the late Samuel and Mary Johnston. The funeral took place from the old Samuel Johnston homestead, South Diagonal, Friday to Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Johnston is survived by two brothers, Alexander, of Keppel, and Jamieson, of Cockburn Island, and one sister, Mrs. J.D. McMillan, Ben Allen - Owen Sound Sun.
