June 25,p.:Dorthea Bower - Dorthea Laverty, relict of the late James Bower, died at her home on the 7th line, Mono, on Tuesday morning last. Her death was due to no particular disease, but simply to vital decay. She was born in the county of Armagh, Ireland, 78 years ago, and came to Canada with her parents when she was 3 years old. The family settled on the 7th line, Mono, and the deceased lady remained there until she married James Bower and with him removed to the 6th line of the same township. After her husband's death she again took up her residence in her former home on the 7th line. Mrs. Bower's family were the first settlers in this portion of the country, having no neighbors except the Indians who were then numerous around here and many an interesting tale Mrs. Bower could tell of the times when she had no playmate but the child of the red man. Deceased leaves a family of three sons and three daughters: William, John, James, Mrs. E.J. Earth and Mrs. Robt. Irwin, of Mono and Mrs. Robert Murphy of Mulmur. The funeral took place to Ebenezer burying ground yesterday and was very largely attended by residents of this section of the country, amongst whom the deceased had spent the last 75 years of her life. Rev. J.A. Long performed the obsequies. Mrs. Bower was beloved by all who enjoyed the pleasure of her acquaintance and her long life was spent in performing acts of kindness that will long be remembered.
