February 19,p.?:Aaron Patterson - Mr. Aaron Patterson, who resided near here, died at 2 o'clock on Tuesday. He suffered great pain from a cancer in his face, but when the pain was at its height deceased never complained and quietly awaited his end. Deceased was in his 85th year. By his death the Conservative party has lost an untiring worker and staunch friend. His sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community.
July 23,p.3:James Pierson - The funeral of the late James Pierson, who died on Thursday, took place on Sunday afternoon. The deceased ha d reached the ripe age of 72 years. Mrs. PIerson formerly lived near Mono Mills.
April 30,p.2:Rufus
J. Whitten - A very serious accident occurred within a mile of Shelburne
whereby the sixteen-year-old son of Mr. Robert J. Whitten lost his life.
It appears that the boy and a younger brother were playing around the barn.
In their rambles they found a small piece of plough line. The boy had read or
heard of a thirteen-year-old boy hanging himself, and he was apparently trying
to explain to his younger brother how it was done. He fastened the plough line
to a beam and made a noose of the rope, in which he placed his head. The ground
being slanting and slippery, he seems to have lost his footing, and was strangled
before assistance arrived. His father drove into the yard then, and called to
him thinking he was fooling, but received no reply. He immediately cut him down
and summoned Dr. Norton, but when the Dr. reached him life was extinct. The
coroner, Dr. Norton, held an inquest at the home Saturday night, when the following
verdict was returned: -- "That Rufus John Whitten came to his death by
strangulation, the same not being intentional but an accident occurring in play."
