August 21,p.?: Rachel (Hammond) Dales - The death of Mrs. A.H. Dales occurred on Friday morning, Aug. 9, 1963, in Dufferin Area Hospital, Orangeville, where she had been a patient for the past six weeks.

Born in East Luther Township, on July 4, 1874, Mrs. Dales was the former Rachel Hammond, daughter of the late Wm. Hammond and his wife, Jane Westover. On Sept. 27, 1899, she was married to Alpha H. Dales and took up residence on the farm, now owned by their grandson, Robert Dales. Thirty-seven years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Dales retired and moved to Grand Valley where Mr. Dales passed away in March, 1942. Mrs. Dales continued to live in the village until the time of her death. She was a member of Trinity United Church and rarely missed being in her pew as long as her health permitted. Her gentle and kindly disposition endeared her to young and old.

Left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother are her daughter, Verna (Mrs. Lorne Jelly), Hamilton and four sons, Clifford, Grand Valley; Barrie, of Keldon; Henry, Hamilton, and Fred, Dundalk. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Dan Mark (Matilda), of Drayton; Mrs. Thos. Colbeck (Mabel), Milton; Mrs. Arthur Watson (Alice), of Burford; Mrs. Alex. Cann (Lottie), of Exeter, and two brothers, Wm. Hammond, Tottenham and Wesley Hammond, Guelph, also nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, George and Richard Hammond and two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Hind (Mary) and Mrs. Jas. Holborn (Belle).

The funeral was held from the Sime Funeral Home, Grand Valley, on Sunday afternoon, the service being conducted by Mr. V.H. Turner, minister of Grand Valley Pres. Church.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Melville, Bob, Barrie and Jim Dales, Bill Forrest and Verne Martin. The floral tributes were carried by grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dorothy Forrest, Helen, Gail and Wayne Dales, Betty Dales, Don and Patricia Gamble, Marsha and Murray Martin, Betty Gilkes and Anne Dales, also Ann Turner and John Patterson.

Interment took place in Grand Valley Union Cemetery.

Friends and relatives were present from Port Colborne, Flint, Mich., London, Toronto, Keswick, Burford, Hamilton, Waterloo, Dundalk, Milton, Exeter, Tottenham, Beeton, Alliston, Orangeville, Guelph, Fergus, Shelburne, Arthur, Galt, Kingston, Churchville, and Brampton.
