PLATT

May 5, p.?: Mary Jane (Hughes) Platt - It is with regret many of the people of Tarbert heard of the death of Mrs. Samuel Platt, which occurred at her home on Wednesday evening, the 27th. Although not in robust health, she was able to fulfill her duties about her home and when her husband and son, Bruce, returned from their outdoor work, she arose to prepare the evening meal when she collapsed and in a peaceful voice said "I am dying" the end coming in a few minutes, death being due to heart failure.

The late Mrs. Platt, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Hughes, was born in Tecumseth Township on April 28th, 186, being the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hughes. Her early life was spent in the Township of West Garafraxa where on the 4th of April forty-four years ago, she was united in marriage to Samuel Platt, of the same Township, where they continued to reside for the following ten years. They then moved to Lot 20, Con. 7, East Luther, where the remainder of her life was spent. The late Mrs. Platt was of a kind disposition, whose chief interest was in her home, her community and in Tarbert United Church, of which she was a loyal and faithful member.

She leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband and two sons, Bruce, at home, and George, on a nearby farm. One son, Edward, predeceased her three years ago. She is also survived by one brother, Thomas, of Sault Ste. Marie.

On Friday her many friends and neighbors came to her late home to pay their last respects to one who had spent many years in their midst. Services were conducted by the Rev. J.F.G. Morris, of Tarbert United Church, assisted by the Rev. M. Sellar, of Trinity United Church, Grand Valley. The remains were laid to rest in the Union cemetery at Grand Valley. The pallbearers were six neighbors of the deceased: H.H. Hilborn, Ed. S. Townsend, Jas. Meldrum, Robert Fuller, Norman Eastwood and Ernest Tovell.

The bereaved husband and sons have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of a faithful wife and loving mother."
