Apr. 6,p.7:Robert Riddell - Mr. Robert Riddell, father of Dr. W.H. Riddell, Mayor of Orangeville, passed away at his home on Mill St. on Wednesday morning after a comparatively short illness. His death was caused by gangrene, which started in one of his feet a couple of weeks ago and gradually spread to other parts of the body. The late Mr. Riddell was a native of Monoghan County, Ireland, where he was born 84 years ago. He came to Canada when a mere lad, the family taking up their resident in Toronto. He moved to Orangeville about fifty years ago, and followed the occupation of contractor, here for many years. A strong, rugged man, he scarcely knew what it was to experience illness until about a year ago, when he began to fail rapidly. He was an honest and law-abiding citizen and a man who enjoyed the respect of everybody with whom he was brought into contact. During his long life-time he made many friends and few enemies. Mr. Riddell resided near the west end of Zina St. until the death of his wife about seven years ago. He broke up his home shortly after her decease, taking up his residence with his son, Dr. Riddell. The surviving sons and daughters are: Mayor Riddell and Walter Riddell, O Orangeville; Joseph and Robert Riddell, Toronto; Thos. Riddell, Sudbury, Mrs. George E. Newbury, Chicago; Mrs. F.A. Miller and Mrs. Dean, Toronto. The funeral will take place to the Forest Lawn cemetery at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.
