Culross Township

A map of Culross Township can be found on the Bruce County GenWeb website. Culross Township was named after a district in Perthshire, Scotland.


Culross Township Places

  • Belmore - at the corner where 4 townships and two counties meet. Its post office was opened in 1856.

  • Cheviot - the post office at Moscow. It was open from 1870 until 1897.

  • Moscow - a hamlet near the centre of the township. Its post office was called Cheviot.

  • Salem - a hamlet with a school and two churches.

  • Teeswater - a village in the centre of Culross Township. Its post office was opened in 1856. The Toronto, Grey and Bruce Railway was extended to the village in 1874. The Teeswater News was first published in 1874.

  • Williamson's Corners - an early name for Salem.


Culross Township Notable People

Mary Riter Hamilton, who was born in Teeswater and raised in Manitoba, was a World War I artist. Some examples of her art can be seen here.
