JEFFERSON COUNTY

LESLIE H. STOWE, son of W. J. Stowe, Waurika. Okla., was born in Hickory Flat, Miss., May 14, 1892; educated in the schools of Waurika. He entered the service May 27, 1918, and received his military training at Camp Bowie, Texas, Musician, 142nd Infantry; he embarked overseas July 18, 1918, and landed in France; in no engagements. Returned to this country and received his discharge at Camp Bowie, Texas, June 17, 1919.

JAMES H. MARTIN, son of J. M. and Luella Martin, Hastings, Okla,, was born in Cotton County, April 11, 1896, and educated at Hastings. Entered service Aug. 6, 1917; was sent to Fort Logan as Cook for School of Bakers, in Q. M. Department. Went to France Sept. 12, 1918, with Company D, 309th Motor Supply Train. Advanced to Sergeant. Discharged at Camp Pike, July 12, 1919.

E. R. Kizer, son of Mr. And Mrs. J. B. Kizer, Waurika, Okla., born Aug. 25, 1900, at Gorman, Texas; educated in Waurika, Okla.  Entered service Sept. 10, 1917; trained at Base hospital No. 118, Ft. Logan.  To France Nov. 5, 1918: to Base Hospital No. 118. Discharged Nov. 22, 1919, at Camp Pike.

M. G. Kizer, son of Mr. And Mrs. J. B. Kizer, Waurika, Okla., born in Arkansas, Oct. 30, 1892; educated in Arkansas.  Entered service September, 1917, trained with 90th Division at Camp Travis.  To France in June, 1918, with Company M, 357th Infantry, 90th Division; fought at St. Mihiel and Argonne.  Discharged April 20 at Camp Pike.

BERT E. FIELDS, Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Fields, Chickasha, Okla., was born in Kansas, July 4, 1893; educated in the schools of Waurika, Okla. He entered the service Feb. 9, 1917, and received his naval training at Mare Island, U. S. S. Huntington, as convoy. He made fifteen trips across, guarding the soldier vessels. Promoted to Machinist Mate. His grandfather, Montiville Steele, of Farwell, Va., was four years in the Civil War, and received a cross of honor. Fields received his discharge August 8, 1919.

LAWRENCE G. MORGAN, Wagoner, son of James and Stella Morgan, Waurika, Okla., was born in Seymour, Texas, Dec. 4, 1893; educated in the schools of Waurika. Entered the service Oct. 3, 1917, and received an intensive military training at Camp Travis, Texas, Supply Company, 357th Infantry, 90th Division; embarked overseas June 10, 1918, landing  in England and then France; detached service to Company L, 75th Infantry; fought at St. Mihiel; received sixteen wounds from flying shrapnel, necessitating the amputation of left leg; promoted to Wagoner. Discharged at Ft. Sheridan, III., April 3, 1920.

J. B. BIFFLE, Sergeant, son of J. W. and Emma Biffle, Waurika, Okla., was born in Gainesville, Texas, Oct. 7, 1892; educated in the schools of Grady, Okla. Entered the service June 23, 1914, and received training at Ft. Logan; ordered to the Mexican border; transferred to the Quartermaster's Dept.; promoted from Private to Sergeant; still in the service; did not go overseas.

OLIE B. GRIMMETT, son of C. C. Grimmett, Waurika, Okla., was born May 24, 1896, at Bowling Green, Mo., and educated at Ft. Cobb, Okla. Entered service August 3, 1917, and trained with Company G, 43rd Infantry, Camp Logan. Was transferred to Ft. Douglas, Utah, Camp Pike, Ark., Pensacola, Florida, Camp Sevier, S. C., Camp Jackson, Miss., then to Camp Bowie for discharge, March 22, 1919.

WILLIAM M. LARSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Larson, Waurika, Okla., was torn July 30, 1898, in North Dakota, and educated in Oklahoma. Entered service Nov. 8, 1918; was sent to Camp Cody for training. Was transferred to El Paso, Texas, for discharge, March 25, 1919.

DAVID R. LONG, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Long, Waurika, Okla., was born in Pennsylvania, March 19, 1885, and educated there. Entered service in 1916; trained at Ft. Sill with truck Company No. 60. Promoted to First Sergeant; transferred to Truck Company No. 4. Was in hospital three days. Discharged at Ft. Sill, April 1919.

JOHN W. SPIVEY, son of E. O. and J. A. Spivey, Waurika, Okla., was born in Ellis County, Texas, Dec. 20, 1896, and educated in Oklahoma. Entered service June 18, 1917; trained at Camp Bowie with Company F, 111th Engineers, 36th Division. Went to France with 111th Engineers in July, 1918. Was in St. Mihiel Drive. Discharged June 18, 1919.

GEORGE LOWELL ADAMS, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Adams, Waurika. Okla., was born in Texas, November 19, 1895, and educated in Oklahoma schools. Entered service Aug. 8, 1918; held in reserve until Feb. 14. 1919, then sent to San Diego for training in U. S. Navy. Released in San Diego, but held in reserve until 1922.

CHAS. COLE ADAMS, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Adams, Waurika, was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, and educated in Oklahoma. Entered service during the early days of war and trained at Camp Doniphan. Went to France in July, 1917, with Company A, 142nd Inf., 36th Division, National Guards. Fought at St. Etienne Arnes; was promoted to Sergeant. Discharged in June, 1919, at Camp Bowie.

JOHN RICHARDS, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Richards, Ryan, Okla., was born in Wood County, Texas, July 25, 1886, and educated in Oklahoma. Entered service August 4, 1918, and trained with Company E, 13th Infantry, at Camp Tremont. Discharged December 9, 1918.

HAYDEN H. WALKER, son of W. A. and K. L. Walker, Ryan, Okla., was born Dec. 7, 1892, at Bowie, Texas, and educated at Dallas. Entered service May 28, 1918, and trained with Company B, 11th M. P., 36th Division. Went to France with 36th Division, 111th M. P., but was transferred to 227th M. P. Was at Champagne. Discharged at Camp Pike, July 17, 1919.

JAMES HENRY KENNEDY, son of G. R. and Marie Kennedy, Ryan, Okla., was born in Johnson County, February 24, 1897, and educated at Nacoma, Texas. Entered service August 27. 1918, and trained with the 36th Division Infantry at Camp Pike. Was discharged Dec. 16, 1918.

GEORGE STEVEN KENNEDY, son of G. R. and Marie Kennedy. Ryan, Okla., was born in Carter County, Oklahoma, Dec. 4, 1893. and educated in Nacoma, Texas. Entered service June 25, 1918, and trained with 136th Inf., 36th Div., at Camp Cody, N. M. Was later sent to Camp Dix, New Jersey. where he was taken ill with pneumonia, and after two weeks in hospital died Oct. 4, 1918.

THOMAS LOYD EDMONDSON, Private, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Edmondson, Ryan, Okla.., was born in Jefferson County, Okla., Aug. 30, 1891; educated in Ryan schools. Entered the service August 27, 1918, and received his military training at Camp Pike, Casual Company, 59th and 40th Company; did not go overseas. Discharged at Ft. Sill, Okla., Dec. 20, 1918.

ELBERT L. RYAN, Private, son of S. W. and Sallie Ryan, Ryan, Okla.; was born in Ryan, Okla. June 23, 1889; educated at Ryan and the Waxahatchie (Texas) University. Entered the service May 28, 1918, and received an intensive military training at Camp Bowie, Texas, in Company L, 141st Infantry, 36th Division; embarked overseas July 12, 1918, and landed in France with same company; fought in the Meuse-Argonne and Champagne; returned to this country and received his discharge at Camp Bowie, June 19, 1919.

RAY H. PATTERSON, Private, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Patterson, Ryan, Okla., was born in Clay County, Texas, May 4, 1896; educated in the schools of Oklahoma; graduate Oklahoma high school. Entered the service June 25, 1918; received his military training at Camps Cody and Dix, 153rd Depot Brigade. Suffered a long illness while at Camp Cody. Did not go overseas. Discharged at Camp Funston, March 5, 1919.

BEDFORD LEWIS, son of Lulu and Forrest Lewis, Ryan, Okla., was born October 5, 1897, in Mississippi, and educated in Oklahoma, Entered service May 17, 1918, and trained at New Orleans with U. S. S. Ozark. Was sent to Tampico, Mexico. Received discharge at New Orleans, January 20. 1918.

IRA C. MANIRE, son of A. C. and Nora May Manire, Ryan, Okla., was born March 4, 1896, at St. Joseph, Mo., and educated in Texas. Entered service August 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Travis with Co. F, 86th Infantry. Discharged, February 11, 1919.

JAMES HENRY KENNEDY, son of G. R. and Marie Kennedy, Ryan, Okla., was born in Johnson County, February 24, 1897, and educated at Nacoma, Texas. Entered service August 27. 1918, and trained with the 36th Division Infantry at Camp Pike. Was discharged Dec. 16, 1918.

GEORGE STEVEN KENNEDY, son of G. R. and Marie Kennedy. Ryan, Okla., was born in Carter County, Oklahoma, Dec. 4, 1893. and educated in Nacoma, Texas. MARVIN W. FRANKLIN, son of J. A. and Martha Franklin, Addington, Okla., was born Dec. 6, 1892, at Tula, Miss., and educated at Addington. Entered service Sept 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Travis. Went to France July 30, 1918, with Q. M. Department of 36th Division. Later commissioned Second Lieutenant. Discharged August 4, 1919, at Camp Pike.

ERNEST McLEMORE, son of Mrs. Martha McLemore, Addington, Okla., was born June 12, 1894, at Prior Creek, Okla., and educated in Greenville, Mo. Entered service Feb. 22, 1918; sent to Camp Travis for training with Company B, 358th Infantry, 90th Division. To France with that Division June 20, 1918. Advanced to Corporal. At St. Mihiel front, in trench 72 days. In hospital 3 weeks, from schrapnel wound on head. Discharged June 20, 1919, at Camp Pike.

PEARL HARNED, son of Mrs. M. M. Hulgon, Addington, Oklahoma, was born in Marion County, Iowa, March 15, 1894; educated in the schools of Oklahoma. He entered the service, and received his military training at Camp Bowie. 111th Trench Motor Battery, 36th Division; embarked overseas in 1918, and landed in France. Discharged at Camp Pike in 1919.

ELMER HUFFER, Private, son of J. W. and Lona Huffer, Addington, Okla., was born in Montague County, Texas, Jan. 6, 1891; educated in the schools of Oklahoma. Entered the service Sept 20, 1917, and received his military training at Camp Travis, Texas; did not go overseas. Discharged at Camp Pike, January 11, 1919.

JOHN N. MANIRE, First Class Private, son of Tom and Annie Manire, Addington, Okla., was born in Velma, Okla., June 28, 1893; educated in the schools of Addington, Oklahoma. Entered the service June 25, 1918, and received his military training at Camp Cody in Company 10, 34th Division; embarked overseas Oct. 16, 1918, and landed in France with Ammunition Train and transferred to Military Police Force; did not participate in any battles. Returned to this country and was discharged at Camp Pike, July 28, 1919.

 

OTIS HAMTON WALTON, son of J. H. and Eddie Walton, Addington, Okla., was born in Texas, Dec. 8, 1896; educated in the Addington schools. He entered the service Sept. 19, 1917, and received his military training at Camp Travis in 357th Infantry, 90th Division; embarked overseas June 10, 1918, and landed in France with the same Company and Division; he fought in the Battles of St. Mihiel and was gassed Sept. 18, 1918, and confined to the hospital three months. After active duty for the time of his enlistment he returned to this country and received his discharge at Camp Travis, Sept. 18, 1918.

WILLIAM AMOS FRANKLIN, son of J. A. and Martha Franklin, Addington, Okla., was born in Cameron, Texas, Oct. 28, 1894, and educated at Addington. Entered service April 22, 1918, and trained with 111th Ammunition Train at Camp Bowie. Went to France July 29, 1918, with Company G, 111th Ammunition Train. Was discharged at Camp Bowie, March 30, 1919.

GEORGE V. COFFER, son of G. V. and Marie Jane Coffer, Hastings, Okla., was born Aug. 1, 1895, in Washington, Mo., and educated at Hastings. Entered service Aug. 20, 1917, and trained with 90th Division at Camp Travis. Went to France with the 90th Division June 5, 1918, and fought at St. Mihiel and the Meuse Argonne. Had right hand shot off when he went over top. Discharged in 1919

OTIS HAMPTON WALTON, son of J. H. and Eddie Walton, Addington. Born Dec. 8. 1896, in Texas: educated at Addington. Entered service Sept. 19. 1917: trained with 90th Division, Camp Travis. To France June 10. 1918. with 90th Division.  Fought at St. Mihiel: gassed there, in hospital three months. Discharged at Camp Travis, April 15, 1919.
