COMANCHE COUNTY

RICHARD VOSS. Jr.. son of Mr. and Mrs.  Richard Voss. Fletcher, was born in Texas. Jan. 3, 1902; educated in Fletcher, entered service March.  1918; trained with Co. 19, 12th Reg. at San Diego; to France in October. 1918. One battle with Submarine.   Discharged at Great Lakes, Sept. 8, 1919.

JOE F. TYLER, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W.  Tyler, Lawton, was born Feb. 1, 1896. in Texas; educated in Oklahoma. Entered service May 21. 1918; trained at Camp Travis. Discharged at Camp Travis, Feb. 29. 1919.

ARTHUR L. TYLER, son of Mr. and Mrs.  D. W. Tyler, Lawton. was born March 23. 1892, in Texas. Entered service Oct. 2, 1917; trained with 4th Div. at Camp Travis. To France April. 1918; fought at St. Mihiel and Argonne Sector. Discharged Oct. 1, 1919, at Camp Pike.

EDDIE W. SHOEMAKER, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Shoemaker, Lawton. was born Sept. 10, 1893, at Justin, Texas; educated at Lawton, Entered service September. 1917; trained with 343rd Field Artillery. Hdq. Co., 90th Div,, at Camp Travis. Discharged at Camp Travis. May 22, 1918.

SGT, NED SHEPLER son of Mr., and Mrs., John N. Shepler, Lawton. born in Milan, Mo.. Nov.  4, 1897. Educated at Lawton and Oklahoma University. Entered service Aug. 15, 1918: trained at Norman with Inf. Training Det. Discharged Dec.  21, 1918, at Norman.

EDWARD C. RATHER, son of Edw. Rather, Fletcher, born May 17. 1891, in Oklahoma, and educated there. Entered service Dec. 11. 1917; trained at Great Lakes. To France March 17. 1918, with Naval Aviation; wounded Aug. 19, 1918. Discharged Dec. 24. 1918.

EARL C HUMBLE son of Mr. and Mrs.  Squire Humble. Chattanooga, born Aug. 25. 1892. in Kansas. Educated in Oklahoma. Entered service August. 1918; trained at Camp Pike. To France with 26th N. Y. Nat. Guards in October. 1918. Discharged at Camp Pike. April, 1919.

RALPH HUMBLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Squire Humble. Chattanooga, born in Kansas. Oct.  16. 1887: educated in Kansas and Oklahoma. Entered service August. 1918; trained in Cook and Bakery School at Ft. Riley.   Discharged. June, 1919.

SGT. OMER P. HUMBLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Squire Humble, Chattanooga, born Jan. 9. 1S95, in Kansas: educated in. Oklahoma. Entered service April. 1917: trained at Camp Bowie. Co. 7. 142nd Inf.. 36th Div. To France. July, 1918, on firing line 21 days.    Discharged August. 1919.

J. C. HARPER, son of J. C. Harper. Lawton; born in Texas. August 16. 1898; educated in Lawton. Entered service June 15. 1918; trained at Paris Island. S. C, with 53rd Co.. 2nd Reg. To West Indies. July, 1918. Discharged at Paris Island, March 31. 1919.

JAMES H DANIEL. son of Mr. and Mrs.  R. A. Daniel, born in Missouri. Jan. 3, 1806; educated in Thomasville. Mo. Entered service July 15. 1918; trained with Co. D. 9th Inf.. at Camp McArthur. To France Sept. 28. 1918, with 2nd Division; fought in last Argonne Drive. Discharged at U. S. General Hospital No. 21, May 5. 1919.

THERON P. CANNON, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Cannon. Lawton, Okla.. born May 16, 1892. in Texas.  Educated at Gainesville and in Oklahoma. Entered service Aug. 29, 1918. Trained with Co. B. 4th Training Reg. at Camp Pike. To France Nov. 1.  1918. with 9h Casual 330th Inf. Co. G. Discharged at Camp Pike, Feb. 15. 1919.

ROBERT ARMITAGE. son of Mr. and Mrs.  Thomas Armitage, born April 3, 1890, in Wisconsin, and educated there. Entered service Sept. 5, 1918; trained at Hdq. Co. 79th Inf. 15th Det, at Camp Logan.   Discharged Jan. 4, 1919, at Camp Pike.

BUD PIPER. son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W.  Piper, Lawton, Okla.. was born in Yukon. Okla., Sept. 23, 1891. Enlisted August. 1918. at Regina, Saskatchawan, Can. Overseas Nov. 12. 1918, to Siberia.   Discharged at Regina, July, 1919.

HARRY HUGH THOMAS REIFSCHNEIDER  Son of Mrs. P. E. Reifschneider, of Lawton, Okla., was born in Temple, Texas, May 18, 1897, and received his education in the Lawton schools. On June 21, 1917, Mr. Reifschneider entered the service of the United States Navy, and was sent to the Great Lakes, Illinois, where he trained from June, 1917, to July, 1918, attached to the Medical Corps, being promoted to First Class Hospital Apprentice in the Navy. He transferred to Newport, R. I., and here took sick with pneumonia and died October 2, 1918. His body was taken to Rose Hill Cemetery, Chicago, and buried. Harry Reifschneider won the approbation of his superiors by his efficiency in the performance of his duties, while by his cheerful willing service and winning personality he gained the friendship and admiration of his associates, by whom his death was deeply mourned.

EDEN W. JUMP Private. Son of Mrs. Etta Baird, Fletcher, Okla., was born in Grant County, Kentucky, Feb. 16, 1896, and educated in the Missouri and Oklahoma schools. In the month of June, 1918, he entered the Army service, and was sent first to Camp Lewis and later to Camp Kearney, Cal., where he received overseas orders to sail with Company L, 125th Infantry, leaving for France June 24, 1918. After a short period of intensive training they were sent to the front and participated in the great Argonne Offensive. After fighting valiantly and loyally for three months at the front he was killed in battle, on October 18, 1918, and he lies buried at Bantheville, France.

ANTHONY W.. GIPSON  Private. Son of Dr. and Mrs. T. J. Gipson, Lawton, Okla., was born in Ft. Smith, Ark., Oct. 11, 1892, and received his education in the Little Rock Ark., schools and at Lawton. He volunteered for the Army service June 30, 1917, and was sent to Ft. Logan, Colo., where he remained for two months, and was then sent to Kelly Field, Texas, where he was attached to the 90th Aero Squad. In November of that year he sailed with them for France as a Signal Corps Courier. He served his country loyally and faithfully, enduring the hardships and dangers of the men in line, and sometimes facing even greater danger as he rushed across country beset with countless dangers, known and unknown, carrying messages that meant so much to the Allies. On April 28, 1918, while carrying a message a truck ran into his motorcycle and he was instantly killed. His death was an accident, but he made the supreme sacrifice, was killed in action, and his name should be written with the other heroes who gave their lives over there. Private Gipson was the first Comanche County boy to be killed. He was buried in Grave No. 70-D, French Military Cemetery, Baziller, Meuse-Vosges, France. He is survived by a wife and two children.

J. V. McKAY, Captain, son of John McKay.  Lawton, Okla., was born in Scotland, July 12, 1878, and educated in Orange, N. J. Captain McKay served in the Spanish-American War and has been in service ever since. When we entered the war with Germany he was stationed at Ft. Sill as Captain of the Ordinance Dept., and sailed May 26, 1918, with 19th Co., Ordinance, for France.  For especially efficient service he received citation by General Pershing. He is now stationed at Camp Benning, Ga., with Infantry School of Ordinance.

ROBERT S. JACKSON. Private, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Jackson, Lawton, Okla,, was born in Denison. Texas, March 23, 1896. He entered service Sept. 19, 1917; trained at Camp Travis.  Texas, attached to Company D, 4th Engineers. 4th Division. He sailed for France May 1, 1918, and over there was assigned to 343rd Field Artillery.  90th Division. Fought in the Aisne. Marne, Vesle River, Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Was in Dungenheim, Germany, for 8 months and in Coblenz a short while. Was gassed and hit by shrapnel in mouth.   Discharged August 7, 1919.

JOHN M. ZIGLER, Jr., Private, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Zigler, Lawton, Okla., was born in Warren, Ohio, April 28, 1894, and educated in the Lawton and Cache schools. He entered service April 26, l9l8; was sent to Camp Travis, attached to Company A, 35 7th Infantry, 90th Division. Overseas in June, then transferred to Headquarters Co., 357th Infantry. 90th Division.  Fought in Battles of Chateau Thierry, Verdun, St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne. On front 92 days.  Slightly gassed. Wears Dragon Cup pin. Discharged from Camp Pike, Ark., June 23, 1919.

CLARENCE D. GEHRIG, Private, son of Mrs. Ida Capshaw, Chattanooga, Okla., was born in Campbell, Mo., February 25, 1891, and educated in the Campbell schools and at Memphis, Tenn.  On August 5, 1917, he entered the Army, and was sent to Camp Doniphan, where he was attached to Company A, 140th Infantry, 35th -Division.  They sailed for France April 23, 1918, and Private Gehrig fought in the Great Offensive of Argonne, in which he lost his life, making the supreme sacrifice for his country and humanity.

LEROY THOMAS, Private, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. S. Thomas, Lawton, Okla., was born in Wichita, Kan., July 21, 1890, and educated in the Enid and Lawton schools. He entered service June 25, 1918, and was sent to Camp Cody, New Mexico, and attached to 3rd Co., 1st Bn., 164th D. B. Over-seas from Sept. 17, 1918, to Feb.  28, 1919. Returned on U. S. S.  Gen. Grant. Discharged at Camp Funston, March 13, 1919.

CALE BEACH THOMAS, son of Mr. and Mrs.  Chas. S. Thomas, Lawton, Okla., was born in Pond Creek, Okla., Sept. 25, 1895, and educated in Lawton schools. Entered service Sept. 5, 1918; trained at Camp Logan, Texas, with 3d Co. Div.  Barracks. Private Thomas was later transferred to Hedq. Rec. Co., 8 Cas. Reg. 1. Discharged from Camp Logan Feb. 6, 1919.

OTTO HOWARD THORNTON, Private, son of Mrs. A. C. Mclntyre, Lawton, Okla., was born in Hillsboro, Texas, Oct. 26, 1896, and educated at Lawton. On Sept. 5, 1918, he entered service, trained at Camp Logan with Medical Det.  57th Inf.; transferred to Dev. Bn.  on account of health. Discharged at Camp Logan, Dec. 11, with Sur.  Cert, of disability. Now in Sanitarium in St. Angelo, Texas, with tuberculosis contracted in service.

FRANK S. THOMAS, Sergeant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Thomas, Lawton, Okla., was born April 23, 1892, in Wichita, Kan. and educated in Lawton school. Entered service Feb. 24, 1918; trained at Camp Travis with 10th Co., 165th D. B., till March 23, when transferred to 14th Co., later to 7th Co., then to Field Remount Squad No. 306, to 1st Rep. Depot, to Spec. Cas. Co. No. 19S7 until discharged- Promoted to Sergeant Discharged March 31. I919, A. S. D.

JOHN C. TAGUE, First Lieutenant, son of Mr.  and Mrs. J. N. Tague, Lawton, Okla., was born in Akron, Colo., June 23, 1894, and educated in Law at Oklahoma University. Volunteered May 9, 1917; trained at O. T. C, Camp Pike. Overseas August, 1918, to Liverpool, England, with 347th Inf., 82nd Division. Commissioned Second Lieutenant August 15, 1917; First Lieutenant, August 12, 1918. Discharged at Ft. Logan H. Roots, Aug.  14, 1919.

ALFRED WEICHBRODT, Sergeant, Lawton, Okla., son of Mr. and Mrs. Weichbrodt, Berlin, Germany, was born in Berlin, April 15, 1891, and educated in the Berlin schools. He volunteered for service, training at Ft. Sill with 5th F. A.  Promoted to First Class Sergeant, 13th F. A., Ft. Bliss. Transferred to Q. M. C, Ft. Sam Houston.  Discharged at Ft. Sam Houston, March 7, 1919.
