REMUS
"Ghost" town of 
Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma

Location:  4 miles west and 1 mile north of Maud
Existed: July 3, 1893 - February 15, 1906

Named for:  Mythological Remus who with twin, Romulous, was a founder of Rome

The first Postmaster was William R. Foyil.  The second Masonic Lodge established in the county waas Remus Lodge #26.  Dr. Lucian J. Truscott came here in 1898.  He was the father of World War II General Lucian J. Truscott.  Although Dr. Truscott did not arrive in Remus as doctor until 1898, many years before, in 1876, he first crossed Oklahoma from Texas over the old Chisholm Trail as a cowboy drover with a herd of cattle.  Upon his arrival at Remus, he bought an 80 acre farm and planted 4,500 fruit trees.
