DENT
"Ghost" town of
Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma

Location:  about 5 miles northwest of Keokuk Falls
Existed:  May 23, 1894 until August 30, 1903
Named for:  unknown

The town of Dent originally started north of the county line in Lincoln County, about six miles southwest of Prague.  First postmaster was Frank R. Vlasak.  At one time the thriving little town even had a town volunteer musical band.  However, in 1901, the whole town, which then had dwindled to only one store, moved lock, stock and barrel across the Pottawatomie County line and started operation. The store owner brought his post office with him, and apparently never thought it important to notify Washington of his move.  The location of the town in this county was about five miles northwest of Keokuk Falls.  Settlers were:

Rev. Marion J. Simpson,
Loring B. WinslowFrank Krotil
C. M. Winslow
William A. Dalton
 William R. Banish
 Robert J. Reynolds
Stella A. Hale
 Joseph Pickett
Thomas J. Stewart
Yell B. Lee
Leslie E. McGaffey
