Goss in 1879.  After the Civil War Truscott moved his family to northern Arkansas where he taught school for seven years before moving on to Texas where Elizabeth died.  After his wife's death he lived with his son T.I. who was ranching near what is now Truscott, Texas, which was named for him.  While living with his son, Knox County, Texas was organized and J.J. Truscott was elected the first county judge, serving for 7 years.

In 1900 he moved with son, T.I.,  to Oklahoma, making his home with him until 1912 when he went to live with his son George at Maud, Okla.   Judge Truscott was elected mayor of Maud and served six years.

James J. Truscott's son, George Emory Truscott was a pioneer south Pottawatomie county merchant. He was born in 1855 in Illinois.  George married Lucinda Dugat on December 19, 1878 in Texas and they were the parents of nine children:  Lawrence Emory Truscott (1879); Thomas Lee Truscott (1882); Byran B. Ray; Alvin Austin Truscott (1892); George Glass Truscott (1895); Margert "Maggie" Truscott, who  married Albert Anthony McAllister.  George moved his family to Oklahoma in 1900 from Texas and started a mercantile at Remus which he managed for four years before moving the business to Maud.  He operated the Maud store until 1920.  George E. Truscott died October 22, 1940 in Shawnee.  His wife, Lucinda, died October 31, 1941 in Shawnee.  Both are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City.

George Emory Truscott's son, James J. Truscott (grandson of James J.  & Elizabeth (Kirkland) Truscott) was born June 5, 1887, in Knox County, Texas.  He moved with his parents in 1900 to Remus, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma where his father George E. owned a store.  James married Jewell Doris Hearn on September 23, 1912 in Maud, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.  They had a son, Eugene in 1913 and a daughter, Rozanne, in 1916.  In 1920 James J. moved to Shawnee to work for the Round House Overall factory.  In 1941, he purchased the Roundhouse facoty from A.S. and Carlisle Nuckools and operated it with his son, Gene Truscott until 1967, when he sold it.  While living in Shawnee he was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, was a 32nd degree Mason in the Shawnee Masonic Lodge number 107 AF&AM, and actively supported many civic projects. James J. Truscott died on December 4, 1974 in Holdenville, Hughes County, Oklahoma and his wife Jewell died Sept 15, 1976 in Holdenville.  They are both buried in Shawnee's Resthaven Memorial Park.
