Gerald Thomas Cheek, 76,
passed away December 23, 2009. He was born November
22, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK to Tellus Thomas and
Onita Cheek.
He is
survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Merry;
brothers, Gary and Brinton Cheek; his children: Don
"Tiger," Toney, Todd, Steve Cheek and Temi (Cheek)
Blackwell; nine grandchildren: Tyler, Nikkie,
Terrance, Terra, Morgan, Zach, Austin, Josh,
Brandie.
Gerald
graduated from MWCHS in 1951 and went to Tulsa
University before enlisting in the Army. He then
graduated from Central State University. He coached
high school football at Alamogordo, N.M.; Shawnee;
Hominy; Harrah; Tecumseh; Crooked Oak; Pomona
Catholic, CA; Garden Grove HS, CA; and Palm Springs
HS, CA. College football coaching at University of
Washington, Oregon State University and University
of Utah, as well as Professional football at
Calgary, Alberta, Canada, rounded out his career.
Gerald was a man who left his winning legacy with
countless numbers of football players and coaches
alike. He was a great athlete, not only in football,
but track and golf, where he also set records. He
knew so many people that, when visiting places he
had never been, would run across someone who knew
him. He will be missed by a loving family and many,
many friends.
Funeral services were held
at Bill Eisenhour N.E. Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m.,
Saturday, December 26, 2009; burial followed at
Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, OK.
