Addie Brown, homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother (Mema), best friend, age 73, of Choctaw, went to be with her Lord Monday, March 22, 2004 at her home surrounded by the love of her family following a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.

Addie was born to Grover & Gladys (Waller) Howard on Nov. 10, 1930 in St. George, GA. Addie attended to her family like she attended to her flowers and gardening with great pride, enjoyment, and loving care to all.

Addie is survived by her husband of 54 years John, 3 children: Louise Covert & husband Steve, Linda Vernon & husband Mike, and John Brown & wife Susan, 7 grandchildren: David & Amy Covert, Christi McBroom & husband Shawn, Brent Vernon, Holly Faught & husband Daryl, Robyn Fiechtl & husband Dan, and Jonathan Brown & wife Rachel. 4 great grandchildren: Isabel & Delaneigh Fiechtl, and Justice & Jordan Brown , 4 sisters: Nettie Mae, Mary Alice, Rosemary, and Wanell, 3 brothers: Edwin & wife Edith, Buster & wife Leone, and Morris, brother in law Charles Brown & wife Dot, sister in law Eula Dodd & husband Elbert, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover & Gladys, sister Betty Hankins, and grandson Michael Covert. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Ishmael & his staff and to the staff at Hospice Quality Care for their loving care of "Miss Addie " as she came to be known to them. Now "Miss Addie " would say to those that loved and gave comfort to her: Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took his hand when I heard his call. I turned back and left it all, I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found the peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee. God wanted me now, He set me free. Memorial donations can be made to Midwest City Cancer Center or Hospice Quality Care. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, 3/26/2004 at the Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Arlington Cemetery.
