Robert D. McCoy , age 72, passed away on November 12, 2008 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 3, 1936 and was the only son of Robert Lee and Eva Mildred McCoy who preceded him in death. Bob lived in several towns within the state of Oklahoma eventually graduating from Classen High School in Oklahoma City. One of his favorite childhood activities was belonging to the Boy Scouts of America and earning his Eagle Scout. Bob attended the University of Oklahoma beginning in 1956 and joined Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and served as President. During college Bob enlisted in the ROTC program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in January 1960. While at OU, Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and a Master of Engineering. After graduation Bob served two years active duty, attending U.S. Army Intelligence School at Fort Holabird, Maryland, before being stationed at Ft. Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. After completing his active duty Bob continued to serve the U.S. Army as a reservist until January 1997 during which time he attended Command General Staff School and achieved the rank of Colonel with his last command being HHD, 4th Bn. 291st Regt. 3d Bde (OSUT) located in Enid, OK.

Bob met the love of his life while attending the University of Oklahoma and married Carolyn Sue Bowman on January 24, 1959. She is and continues to be his inspiration. Together they enjoyed his military service. After returning to Oklahoma City, Bob designed and built the house where he and Sue raised their three daughters. Bob returned to school attending Oklahoma City University and received his Juris Doctorate in May 1971. Bob enjoyed the practice of law and was very proud of having argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Bob used his skills as an engineer and attorney to serve the City of Oklahoma City as a City Councilman representing Ward One from June 1976 to April 1985.

Bob is survived by his wife Sue, their three daughters: Pamela McCoy Post and husband Robert W. Post, their children Myla and Mara Post; Lori Ann McCoy ; Debbi McCoy and husband Patrick Nolan and their children Erin and Kylie Nolan, and his mother-in-law Evelyn Bowman.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm with funeral service to be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 am, both at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
