James "Jim" Fringer, 85, of Batesville, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at his home. He was born in Newalla, Oklahoma on January 17, 1923; the son of James Leonard Fringer, Sr. and Effie Mae (Wood) Fringer. Jim graduated from Cave City High School in 1943 leaving early to join the U.S. Navy where he served from 1942 to 1946. After serving during World War II, he returned to Batesville and graduated from Arkansas College in 1950. He worked for Douglas and Boeing Aircraft and from 1966 to 1988 worked as a contract negotiator for the Air Force Civil Service working at Tinker Air Force Base and McClellan Air Force Base. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to garden vegetables and flowers. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge. Jim was a member of the Crestwood Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Fringer of the home; a son, Mark Rachels of Waxahachie, Texas; a daughter, Kathleen Weatherby of Jones, Oklahoma; one brother, Robert Fringer of Batesville; four grandchildren, Heather Mallory, Jessica Weatherby, Victoria Rachels and Angela Rachels; two great-grandchildren, David Mallory and Amanda Mallory; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Galatha Fringer and a niece, Judy Fringer.

Funeral services will be at Candlewood Chapel in Midwest City under the direction of Ford Funeral Service on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw , OK. Memorials may be made to: Alzheimer's Arkansas.
