An Oklahoma City police officer has died, five years after a motorcycle crash.

Sgt. Robert Douglas died Sunday night from injuries he suffered in a crash on July 26, 2003. Douglas was struck by a vehicle while riding his police motorcycle at the intersection of Memorial Road and MacArthur Boulevard, police said.

Douglas was knocked from the motorcycle into the path of another vehicle, which ran over him. He had been in a coma ever since.

Douglas began working for the Oklahoma City Police Department in August 1985. He was commended for his role in working security detail for President Ronald Reagan in 1986 and again in 1995 for his work after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City.

Douglas leaves behind his wife, Alycia, their 6-year-old son, Bobby, and numerous friends and co-workers at the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Funeral services for Sgt. Douglas will be held Friday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th Street, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Burial will be in the Arlington Memory Gardens at 3400 North Midwest Boulevard, Oklahoma City, Okla.
