The Atchison, Topeka and Sante Fe Railroad can take credit for the existence of the City of Owasso.

In 1987 the railroad decided to end their track at this point and build a depot.  The name Owasso means "Trails End" or "End of the Trail" in the Osage Indian language.

In 1904 Atchison, Topeka and Sante Fe Railroad extended their line into Tulsa Indian Territory, making Owasso it's division point for a few years until the railroad was completed.

The depot was built in 1897 and torn down in 1942.  A small shelter for passengers was built after the removal of the depot.

The Atchison and Sante Fe was responsible for building the "Owasso" Lake to supply their water needs.
