Velma Deanne Staton, age 77, died September 26, at Poteau, Oklahoma. She was born in Old Bokoshe, Oklahoma, on December 19, 1927, to Claud and Oma Mos, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Claud Mos, Jr. and Darvel Mos.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil, one son, Ron Saton and wife, Susan of Oklahoma City, two grandsons, Scott Staton and wife Angela of Oklahoma City, and Michael Staton and wife, Marcy, of Mustang, Oklahoma. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Cole, Cael, Kennedy and Benjamin. Also surviving are a sister, Wilma Jo Lykins and husband, Kenneth and four brothers, Alton Mos and wife, Margaret, Herman Mos and wife, Billie, Eddie Mos and wife, Dorthy, and Freddie Mos. Ms. Staton was a member of Poteau First Baptist Church. Deannie Mos married Cecil Staton on October 18, 1945, in Ft. Smith, AR. They served as pastor and wife of several Baptist churches, including Bokoshe, Wister and Charleston, AR. Their last pastorate was at Immanuel Baptist Church in Henryetta, OK. She worked as a merchandiser for the J.C. Penny Co. for 20 years, and then worked for the Mary Bright Shoppe for 3 years, before retiring. She taught Sunday school for many years, enjoyed her role as homemaker and pastor’s wife, and was well loved by all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Harrell Bright, Allen Daniels, Doug Binns, Haskell Nobles, Ray Evans and Robert Swinford.

Services will be Thursday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Poteau First Baptist Church under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home with Brother Phil McGehee and Reverend Michael Staton officiating. Burial will be at Old Bokoshe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.


 Cecil Staton, 87, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Poteau, passed away November 19, 2009, in OKC. He was born July 3, 1922, in Bokoshe, OK, to Cecil A. and Rose (Cariker) Staton. Cecil married Dean Mos on October 18, 1945 in Ft. Smith, AR. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired minister. He was pastor of First Baptist Church in Bokoshe, First Baptist Church in Wister, First Baptist Church in Charleston, Arkansas, and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Henryetta. After leaving the pastorate, he served as the Director of the Southern Baptist Division of the World Home Bible League. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dean and one sister, Amelia.

He is survived by a son Ron Staton and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; two grandsons Scott Staton and wife Angela of Oklahoma City and Michael Staton and wife Marcy of Mustang, OK; four great grandchildren, Cole, Cael, Kennedy and Benjamin; a brother Eugene Staton and wife Vera of Poteau, OK; as well as a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
